I remember watching the Bane vs Batman fight for the first time in the theater. It was dead silent, everyone was in disbelief to see Batman get his ass handed to him like that. Can't believe Nolan had the balls to do that, but it worked for the movie, and I'm sure as hell glad he did. Just a masterpiece of a trilogy.

However, with the physical and mental exhaustion taking it's toll on the battered Dark Knight, his defensive prowess was depleted and his agility built up by years of physical perfection, was nothing to the steroid infused monster and the fight was over long before it began. Bane decided then, killing him would only end his pain, silence his shame and Batman must continue to suffer, so he broke his body, as he had already broken his spirit.

What's your point ? Bane as a character is anything but cheesy. Those "references" are usually for expository narration. You don't hear Bane going around spouting "I broke the bat! I broke the bat!" every other line of dialogue. The suicide squad comics barely even mention Batman.
