Gnome Angel quilt-a-longs have provided a lot of motivationa and fun while making some amazing quilts. So it was really great to finally meet her and chat with the woman behind who makes it all happen. We had so much fun and I hope you enjoy it too. So grab your sewing and a cup of tea and here's my interview with Angie Wilson of Gnome Angel

Because of this video I have decided to try the sewalong. I am all signed up and have already paid for and downloaded the pattern. I think that I will use the Create line by Kristy Lea for Riley Blake (minus the wasps) plus a few other solids/blenders to round out the rainbow. I hope that they will work well.

You make me laugh cry and everything in between. I applied your honesty and recognised the strength of character and spirit it take to be as honest as you are with us unknowns on the internet. I love Angie Wilson and Karen Brown, just to name a few. There's no one in my circle of friends that's a textile artist. They don't get the love of colour, pattern, texture and rhythm that working with fabrics brings to me. I'm a hoarder to all of them. So nice to "meet" others like me.

I have to say that I joined along in Gnome Angel 2017 100 Blocks 100 Days and it is still my most enjoyable quilt along. And, I finished my quilt and still periodically use it on my bed because I thoroughly enjoy reviewing my blocks. I still receive lots of compliments on this quilt. One day I may join again and make a 2nd version. I hope you enjoy participating as much as I did. I am so glad you had Angie on your channel. Thank you!

I love your interviews with different designers in OUR quilt world. After watching each one I say " OMG that was sooo much fun. I want to express my view on design; that each person doing any part in the world of quilting, should have a saying/ mantra, that will encourage THEM to do what they like and NOT worry about who else will love the piece. No one will miss the doves.

Karen, only one thing wrong with this incredible interview. It was too short. Boy she came across as a lovely person. Seriously could have listened to this beautiful human for hours. I am firstly going to look into her QAL, then make a cuppa, grab some hexies to sew and watch it again. Thanks Karen and Gnome Angel. Oh as a Melbourne quilter, it was fantastic to hear an aussie voice too.

I thoroughly enjoyed your visit with Gnome Angel. You two brought back my Australian memories! We lived there from 1962-1964. Singleton, NSW,Mildura, Sydney, and Perth. My oldest son was born in Perth in 63. No quilt shops anywhere back then, so I took up knitting. Karen, my DH worked on a seismic crew out of Broome while I stayed in Perth. Aussies are the nicest people you can ever meet!

I've noticed that so many new quilters only buy fabric lines, follow a pattern to a "T" - even matching color placements & sending their quilts out to be professionally quilted.
When I started many moons ago before you tube and all that, I self taught myself through books and magazines. You need to make to learn. You need to join a guild to grow. And you need to go to shows to see the originality of others so you can be inspired. So many seem to be afraid to follow their own instincts and be patient enough with themselves.
I love the whole process of making a quilt. The designing, choosing fabrics (or dyeing my own), piecing, basting and the absolute best part quilting. I love show & tell at guilds and entering shows for feedback, oohs & ways & winning ribbons. It's very rewarding to design something for yourself and then find out others like it too.

Yes. I agree with you. I think that I learned everything, along with the confidence, after joining my local quilt guild.
I avoided joining for years until my mother dragged me one day. (She's not a quilter) Best thing ever. Your surrounded by people of like mind, your exposed to a bounty of quilts & techniques and everybody wants to help you. There are classes with popular teachers, a library to check out books and the best part socializing. You don't even realize how much you are absorbing & growing. The ladies encourage you to try new things. They're so positive and nobody points out your mistakes. They will show you how to do better the next time. They offer advice, hold your hand when you need someone to say "you can do it", have you contribute to community projects and so much more. That guild made me the quilter that I am today. And I am so very happy when I can encourage a new quilter who is a little intimidated on branching out. It's all about paying the kindness forward. So all quilters out there, motivate the new quilters and tell them they can do it❗

Lol 2020 was an insane year. I don’t think I’ve even fully processed it yet. I live in Oregon and our town was in a mandatory evacuation zone from the Riverside fire and insanely high winds. The whole experience was surreal. But having to live in a hotel for a couple weeks made me realize how little material things mean to me when it really came down to it. I got essentials like clothes and toiletries first. We went back and got photo albums and some special stuff, but all of my paper crafts and sewing stuff found themselves in the list of stuff that my insurance could replace if it came down to it. 2020 was a lesson in learning to let go and a realization that I can’t control everything around me. I think a lot of us learned how to prioritize the important things and stop stressing about every little thing. Pick a flavor and work with it. Great interview. I love your page and always find something useful. Thanks!

I just checked the Toronto Public Library and they have two copies of an online book by Laurie Hird entitled "The farmer's wife homestead medallion quilt : Letters From a 1910's Pioneer Woman and the 121 Blocks That Tell Her Story". What a fun interview, Karen. I'm Aussie too but had not heard of Gnomeangel so thank you. Angie is delightful, love her laugh. I agree that cutting us boring too. No way can I cut all the piece at once. Its cut some, sew some for me. And forget about the doves!

I truly enjoy these interviews you do! When she mentioned the large prints, I thought of Tula Pink too! It's so hard to cut up all those large prints into really small bits. It's nice to enjoy the largeness! I enjoyed hearing about where she lives - I have a friend in Australia. I have been blessed to get to visit on three different occasions. Hearing her voice is a pleasant reminder of my friend. I have great memories of Australia. Next time I go back, if I get to go back, I will have to find some of those quilt shops!

This was a really great interview. I especially loved her perspective on selecting fabrics "choose what makes you happy!" I have always struggled with making sure to select just the right fabrics and this approach is one I'll try to use from now on...

This was my absolute favorite! I feel as if she and I are kindred spirits, in that I just like to put fabric into things that make me happy
Also one of my favorite sentences came from a wedding planner with my daughter got married who said nothing will go perfectly; it may not go the way you wanted it but it will be perfect to those who see it
