About Master Sushi Chef Hiroyuki Terada:
Master Sushi Chef Hiroyuki Terada is one of the top Japanese Chefs in the entire world and the most popular Japanese chef on RUclips.
At age 10, Terada learned the basics of sushi from his father and then went on to attend RKC Chef's School in Kochi, Japan from 1987-1989. He soon earned a nickname for his fast knife, attention to detail, divine presentation and ability to create new dishes and accents based on traditional Japanese cuisine. Chef Hiroyuki Terada is using the Minonokuni Matsu-1573 210mm Yanagi. Super Blue Steel. Can also be used for breaking down whole fish and chickens. But normally for slicing, sashimi, vegetables, meat etc.. This is Chef Hiro's custom specked knife.

Puffers are easy to find mostly because people throw them back and they stay in pretty shallow water
they also have a diet mostly of shellfish or fish they can get their beaks on

Had this in japan and this is an expensive delicacy. It was served 3-4 ways but tempura was my favorite as well.

FYI: Pufferfish and related have tetrodotoxin (TTX), a Na+ channel blocker, not saxitoxin (Which is produced by algae and cyanobacteria, which can collect in shellfish)..

What makes this puffer fish dangerous is the fact that it has tetrodotoxin (TTX). It is a neurotoxin that binds selectively to voltage-gated sodium channels in the membranes of nerve cells. It blocks the channels, which, in consequence, doesn't let the sodium ions enter in the intracellular space of the nerve cells. Sodium ions are responsible for the depolarizing phase of the action potential. Blocking their passage means preventing the nervous system from sending messages. This prevents the contraction of the muscles in response to a nervous stimulus. Thus, it leads to paralysis of muscles, which includes the muscles responsible for breathing.
This is why when I eat sashimi puffer fish liver and ovaries I am tube fed it while I am intubated.☻

This fish is one of the most expensive fish here in Japan.
Because it takes a long time to prepare and only licensed chef can make it.
You can eat Tempura at quite many places but Sashimi.

Some species of pufferfish actually make good aquarium pets. Look up freshwater pufferfish. Pea puffers are great beginner puffers. Amazonian puffers are super cute but can be high maintenance. My favorite is the Congo spotted puffers. As long as you have another tank with a breeding colony of snails to feed or can get snails and clams cheap, they are awesome to keep.

For us, you are a mere disembodied voice and occasional floating hand protruding from the lens. But you made full use of the camera for your death performance and that's what made it so fantastic. Good news is that they are still making videos so Hiro's license & training is up to par. I would personally be afraid of eating this fish. I suppose that there are a lot of these puffer fish in Florida because most folks would take a pass on them.
This was Fugu, right? I've never had Fugu Tempura. Closest thing I had which was absolutely delicious was halibut tempura. The chef put a whole shiso (oba) leaf on the fish before battering and served with a wedge of lemon. I know the British invented fish & chips but white fish shiso leaf tempura is truly amazing. Hiro-San, if you open a new restaurant, you need a Japanese take on fish & chips. Maybe with zucchini and sweet potato (cut in sticks) also tempura style instead of the french fries. I'm making myself so hungry right now. LOL.

That is an Atlantic puffer not poisonous at all no risk to eat and very delicious. They are pretty popular here. No hate for this show at all and I am sure he does know how to prepare fugu properly given the right fish.

This is the first time I've seen puffer(fugu) fixed this way. All the videos I've seen have shown it eaten raw. I didn't realize Hiro had a license for it. I heard very, very few people in the U.S. are licensed for it. You have to feel special Hiro!

Did you guys experience any tingling sensations after you ate the fish? I've heard after eating it, that the meat can still cause your lips to tingle. After Hiro learned how to prepare the fish, was he nervous serving it to someone for the first time?
