Ronnie Montrose truly one of the GREATEST
Yes he's in my top 10 truly under rated
He and Gamma deserved more attention in the rock scene
At what?
Pattison was a great singer and frontman.
He was incredible with Robin Trower.
@@keylearning5746 Agree 100%. You can't replace Dewar, but Davey held his own for sure.
Denny Carmassi is the man!
Saw Ronnie with The Edgar Winter Group in 72. In my opinion Gamma is his best Band. Why isn't this man in The Hall Of Fame. He truly belongs.
It appears that Edger's Big brother Johnny wasn't inducted either... But Eric Clapton was inducted 3X's? Isn't 1x enough?? Weird...
He's in each one of our personal hall of fames. The other doesn't matter.
@@williamweiss6128Because the Rock n Roll HOF is an absolute joke. There are SO many bands that should be in the HOF that aren't (and yet you have rap stars in the ROCK n ROLL HOF? Laughable
@@hikgerguy1234Yup. RAP IS CRAP!
I saw gamma on day on the green , UFO 38 Special Kansas REO Speedwagon❤
Man! Heck of a lineup!
Ronnie was not just another guitar player. He was a maestro. It’s mind boggling how good this guy was. From what I’m hearing here, I place him up in the stratosphere with the other luminary guitarists. I don’t need to mention who they are….y’all know already.
tony iommi, randy rhoads, ritchie blackmore, jimmy page, jimi hendrix, steve vai, eddie van halen, leslie west, dave murray, stevie ray vaughn, alex lifeson, vivian campbell, and on and on.
Jim Alcivar Rocks here !!!
Ronnies solos had so much emotion not a wasted note
Got Damn....I saw Montrose with Sammy Hagar in LA , back in the late 70's ....One of the very best guitarist to ever grace a stage....Thanks Ronnie Montrose ...You will be forever missed and remembered.....🎸👊🙏
Maybe you're older than you think. It had to be the early 70's. Sammy split with Ronnie around '75.
Razor king no others words needed....miss ya ronnie
Just goes to show how great Ronnie Montrose was.
Their rendition of Something in the Air is ......something, man !!!! Pattison is second to none and Ronnie, well - he's just majestic !!!!
Saw Ronnie twice.
Gamma. Outdoors. Pioneer Days, Chico, CA.
Dave Mason, Jefferson Starship.
Gamma LOUD. Ear curdling. Then Orangevale. A Dive bar: The Boardwalk. Ronnie Broke the E string during a solo. Adjusted. Finished. So great. He will be truly missed. Thank You For Posting This🤟🏼
Man, Davey sure brought it live. What a great singer
This has to be the greatest concert video ever ! Davey Pattison is the best singer Ronnie ever had. Ronnie is the greatest power guitar player of all time. He left a HELL of a legacy !! He pissed on the eternal fireplug !
So I guess Sammy Hagar sucked
This was 2 weeks after we opened for Gamma at Danny Seraphine's club 'Beginnings' in Schaumburg, IL. Ronnie walked up to me, stuck his hand out and said "Hi, I'm Ronnie." We had a nice talk about guitars.
Really cool.. Whats the name of the band you played in at that time?
Seen Montrose twice and Ronnie with the Edgar winter group, great all 3 times! Another under rated guitarist is Rick derringer.
Derringer was a great one! Loud! Ear splitting!
this guy should be in the top 20 of best guitarest of all time
That's A Big 10/4...
Oh oui!
Has always been in my top 10!🤘❤🤘🎸
Guitar Player magazine named RONMON "Guitar Player of the Year" in the late 1980s. 1986 or 1987 IIRC. I have followed him since about 1978 or so and have always considered him my all time favorite guitar player. I had the rare opportunity to put an arm around his shoulder and tell him "you are one of my heros". I miss him BAD.
@@jeffbeltz9229🙏🏻Brother! I saw the Mean tour.. mutatis mutandis and GAMMA 1+2. I have a Charlie Brown shirt saying “I miss Ronnie Montrose”
🤘🎸
12/31/79 Blue Oyster Cult & Gamma at the Cow Palace S.F. Great memories...Some concerts ya just dont forget! Thanks Ronnie for your Music Se ya in that great big gig in the sky Brother!
GREAT COMBINATION MONTROSE AND BOC NEED I SAY THAT MUST'VE BEEN ONE HECK OF A GRRREAT SHOW A ?? NEVER A 😑 DULL MOMENT GREAT GUYS MAN REAL KILLER PLAYER'S IN BOTH BANDS B.O.C. STILL ROCKING HARD SOUNDING 👍 EXELENT
Saw Ronnie in Hollywood Fl. Sportatorium Racetrack outside. The Edgar Winter Group w Ronnie and Johnny Winter showed up by helicopter. It was 40 degrees out. Seeing Ronnie and Johnny playing together with Edgar, Dan Hartman and Chuck Ruff was unreal. Edgar is the only one still with us. RIP guys.
Saw that gig too...my 1st gig! Ronnie is still a BADASS, even in Heaven!
Was there also. Pretty sure Y&T opened. Remember what everybody outside chanted about Iran? That was a kick ass concert & NYE. GAMMA blew the doors off the Cow Palace. The band was tight & sound great. Ronnie was a magician with an axe. RIP 🎸🎶
Saw Gamma and Frank Marino at the Cow Palace New Year’s Eve 1980. Marshall Tucker headlined. Finally got to meet him at Cache Creek casino. RIP Ronnie.
That intro solo on Razor King should have been on the album.
Totally unique and absolutely mesmerizing.
Montrose will always be jamming Wherever I Go rest in peace Ronnie Montrose
AMEN
As well as Davy (lead vocals) . R.I.P.
I think Davey is still alive
Wonderful to see Gamma 1 performed live!
...Thankyou for this ...I would follow Ronnie around the States when he hit the West Coast ...With Davey on the Mic and Denny on the Kit it was Magic ! ....This Tour was Epic Level Up for Rock ...IMHO ...Ronnie your Legend intact and Missed by this Old Misfit
Heroes of my youth: flawless musicians, all of them just dressed in average street clothing, just playing catchy no-fuss-Hardrock songs. What else do you need? They sound a bit like Deep Purple with synth instead of Hammond organ - still a powerful package.
Brilliantly said,my thoughts exactly, and Deep Purple are my favourite band. But Gamma were fantastic,so underrated.
Yep deep purple and rainbow my favorite bands also ufo sabbath priest triumph but also montrose and loved first 2 gamma albums and couple of Ronnie instrumental albums
I agree, they actually sound a lot like Gillan, the band...
This is fuggin incredible,Ronnie was on fire, and Davey kicked ass, I bet Paul Rogers watched this and cried.
I don't get your comment. Why in the world would Paul be crying - Sammy yes, but not Paul. In 1980, Paul would've kicked ass on this just as well. Matter of fact, he could still give it a pretty good try. But.....always did like Davey.
Got to see Gamma tour first two albums and Ronnie Montrose in Dallas. Opened up for Santana.
We were like 6 row for the one Gamma show. Wow!
I saw their first 2 shows at the Keystone in Palo Alto. Epic.
Ronnie Montrose...Legend.. killer band..Davey Pattison..the Standard..
Don’t forget the drummer, Danny Carmassi.
And Denny on drums 🥁 ?....A Supergroup for sure.....🎸🎸🥁🎤👊🙏
I'd listen to Denny Carmassi drum the phone book.
Great Drummer .. I Seen one of the Original Drum Sets He Used In San Rafael, California Drum Store .. It's a Vintage store and the owner had it as a display .. Totally Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ronnie Montrose one of the most underrated guitarist out there that ever was he did not give himself enough credit but he deserved every bit of it
Hell ya
Very nicely said.
He is my #1 favorite guitarist. Right above Robin Trower. My most favorite album of his is, Bearings. That album speaks to my soul. It's a shame I never got to see him live 😔.
My Gamma LP.s are some of the most protected slices of vinyl in my collection, for good reason.
Thanks for this post.
I was lucky to see Gamma 3 times during this era, fantastic 🤘🤘
I was fortunate to see them twice, opening for AC/DC on the Back in Black tour and at a club called the Alrosa Villa, where years later Dimebag Daryl was murdered.
Saw them opening for Triumph in 1980. Great show
I first saw Ronnie w/Gamma open for Heart in San Antonio. He made damn sure we all got one hell of a show! Even Nancy Wilson said "SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIT! How can I play after THAT???!" I will never forget that night!
Dadadadaaaaaamn! Wish I had been there! Rik was in his vocal prime back then!
@@morecowbell1613Well, she could belt out the vocals to Ronnie’s guitar for sure! Wouldn’t that have been a combo???
Never got to see them. They are firing on all cylinders. Denny is great also. I did get to see Davey sing with Robin Trower a few years later.
I saw them at Manchester Free Trade Hall similar time I think. Just an awesome underrated band and Ronnie one of my guitar heroes. His death was tragic, such an underrated hero. Ronnie... you always had the Fire.
Yes sad to say though lot's n lot's of people loved MONTROSE WHEN RECORDED ONE SOLO AND SAMMY'S FIRST TIME OUT PAPER MONEY WASN'T LIVING UP TO THE FIRST ONE EVERY SONG ON THAT ONE WAS HOT 🔥 AND HITS LIKE BAD MOTORSCOOTER ROCK CANDY ON N ON RONNIE WAS A GREAT INSPIRING MAN BEST ROCK GUITAR PLAYER ONE OF THE BEST FOR SHURE 😅
What an absolutely shredding setting from a great band. I've had all FOUR Gamma records on play fromyoutube and have yet to hear a track that wasn't great! 3 and 4 are in no way less good than the first two imo.
Mister Pattison is an amazing frontman too.....🎤👊🙏
He certainly is.
I am currently working with Davey Pattison setting up a blues band. Smashin vocalist and good wee guy also.
@@bigsiz8133 WAITING over here!
🤘😎
@@trowerz Where is over here? We have our first gig this Friday night in Glasgow. I'll try to post some stuff if there is decent footage. Cheers
@@bigsiz8133 I meant Here figuratively 😉Rochester New York..have a great gig✌️🔥
Absolute magic!
Ronnie was the Man
My absolute most favorite guitar player of all time!!!
Ronnie Montrose is one of the greatest guitar players I ever saw and I seen a bunch did you get to see Jimmy Hendrix But Eric Clapton Johnny Winter Rick Derringer and Stevie Ray Vaughan these guys were off the chain rest in peace brothers
Montrose truly great … and Hendrix couldn’t begin to play music at this level .. just being honest
Ik herinner me nog Ronny in de Eden hall A'dam, voorprogramma van journey, Gamma had toen het hoofdprogramma moeten zijn.
I'm front row at this filming !! I have photos I shot !! Too bad they cut out of this video 3 songs Thunder & Lightning , Rock The Nation & I Got The Fire . They played those this night but missing here .
such a loss .Miss you Ronnie
That's A TOTAL BUNCH OF BULL I THINK I REMEMBER RONNIE WAS SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT THAT IN SACRAMENTO OR I MAY HAVE BEEN A NOTHER CLIP THAT KINDA STUFF WAS ALWAYS HAPPENING TO RONNIE HE WAS SUCH A NICE MAN I WILL NEVER FORGET HIM HE WAS MY MENTOR THEN FRIEND I COULDN'T BELIEVE I GOTTA PLAY BASS AS NEEDED. A FEW SHOW'S IT WAS UNFORTUNATE HE LEFT WAY TO SOON REST PEACEFULLY RONNIE YOUR ALWAYS BE THE MAN
3 songs which should have been left in...all great.
Those songs were edited to make it less than an hour long for TV. So glad we have this treasure to see again and again and again, you can bet your ass on that!!! (Thx Ted!)
Saw them at Frenchys in Hayward, CA. Was so close to Ronnie, I could have strummed his guitar. One of the best guitarist ever!!!
What a rocker! What a great player😢
Someone needs to call that Les Paul's next of kin, because Ronnie is killing it.
I saw Gamma in 1980 open for Foreigner on their Head Games Tour . I was 16yrs old, young budding guitarist, his {Ronnie Montrose} leads gave me goose bumps, his sound was incredible, not an easy thing to do being in an old hockey arena in Hershey Pa. And as far as The R&R Hall of Shame, its just that, a fucking joke if you will. Thin Lizzy, UFO, Scorpions, Gary Moore, Three Dog Night, KingsX, you could go on and on, and of course Ronnie Montrose {with Hagar}
Gamma was an excellent band!!! Just as good, if not better than Montrose!!!
That's not even possible. Gamma was ok....Montrose is Rock n Roll royalty.
Better!
Saw this show in Atlanta.....unreal.
Everytime I click on this concert im always late some where!!lol...but worth it
RIP Ronnie! You were/are Loved!
So happy !!! That this got posted!!!! So I can enjoy more of Ronnie!!!! He was a killer guitarist!!!! He just rips and tears it up with his lead guitar solos!!!!👍😁😀🙂😊😄🍻😎🍻😎 I still like Randy Rhoads and Eddie Van Halen!!! That's what got me interested in taking up the electric guitar and starting my own band!!! But Ronnie has a unique style!!!! He's not the conventional or "A TYPICAL SHREDDER" lead guitarist!!!! Ronnie played with Van Morrison and Edgar Winter!!!!!😁😀😁😀🙂😊😄 Plus he played with Sammy Hagar!!!!
Well sang in Ronnie's band.
Ronnie is my favorite. Luckily I got to see him live in Pleasanton a couple months before his death.
Gamma was SO AWESOME and inspiring just as Ronnie always does he was my mentor and became friends with Ronnie in Sacramento ca.the rest was good timesi really miss the ledgend he was a great guy AND THE world's best guitar player ever in my favorite guitar player 😍😢❤😮rest peacefully 😍💘 big brother we love you and miss you 😘 for shure always know that 😢
Such a great guitarist! Remember Davey from his time in Paisley, Scotland singing with Findo Gask in the Burgh Bar! Happy days….👍
@Maxine McKenzie Davey also sang on two albums with Michael Schenker’s Summit….
@@kgeddes7356 Sir Pattison and Sir Shenker really smoked together. Their version of too rolling stones version really gave Sir Trower something to be proud about. I was also in touch with Sir Pattison bust somehow lost contact with him.
saw this tour at the agora in Atlanta, around this time
Thank you for posting!
Wow.. music has gone down hill since then... saw them in Dallas in '80, they were awesome..
I seen Ronnie Montrose (just before Gamma) at the Fabulous Fox in Atlanta....a great guitarist and band
Montrose brought him recognition but gamma showed how great a guitarist he really was!! RIP RONNIE😪💯👍
So many cool, impeccably executed fill-in licks in Voyager. What a great version of this song.
Simply top Ronnie Montrose ❤ the Best
Danny Carmassi is a strong drummer! As a drummer I heard of him but now Im impressed. Solid time and stamina. Great band…
1972 Montrose Danny karmacy is a great drummer and Ronnie Montrose says it all had Sammy Hagar and this band should be in the Hall of Fame didn't stay together long enough but when the hell of a band long live rock and roll rest in peace Ronnie Montrose truly a guitar God
Ronnie Montrose is one of the guitar great this dude was smoking Sall Montrose in 73 unbelievable guitar Guitar Works rest in peace bro
Seen them open for ZZ at the Cow Palace on the Deguello Tour. Great times
NEVER GETS OLD. THIS IS SOO BAD ASSSSSSS. Thank you for posting this. THE BEST
Montrose was definitely a great guitarist.
Ronnie Montrose forever! Fan from day one.
I remember seeing these guys by mistake at the cow palace, we were in the area and saw them on the marquee and bought tickets, voyager brought the house down, saw them later that year at day on the green
Brillante Montrose, acabo de descubrirlo, quedé muy sorprendido.
In my opinion probably the best American guitarists seen him many times just brilliant
Fight to the finish is a killer track.
The speed of both his hands.
MAKES ME SICK!
Love it. Inspiring. Look out for Failed Artist, stories of success
Ronnie we miss you so much!!! this is a special rare treat!! thanks for uploading oxoxoxoxo
absolutely outstanding
27 mins into this and your soul will CRY.....🎸👊🙏
Surprised Ronnie didn't call this lineup Montrose 2. Ronnie, Carmassi & Alcivar. Voyager just cooks here.
Played that 1st album to death. Had to pick up another one. R.I.P. Ronnie! And thank you!
The very first time I saw Robin Trower , Who was singing?! Davey fuckin Pattison!!!!
Best guitar solo l ever saw in Dallas in 1979 was Ronnie.
Montrose. First two records period Hall of Fame, no doubt.
Just doesn’t get any better!!
Saw Gamma at Day on the Green in Oakland, California in 1981. Killer show until the amps started smoking...
Ronnie knows his way around a guitar. Not super flashy with speed and all but he fools you on how good he really is.
I WANT A DVD OF THIS !!!!
Bill Graham Archives need to contact

How am I a rock fan for47 years and have never heard of this band? I am shamed. One of the best shows ever!
Hopefully you heard of Montrose
You can see me a few times front row here !!! I have photos I shot
One of the other commenters claims this show was in Florida. Can you straighten him out?
I saw him in 74 with Skynard in Birmingham when Sammy was the singer! Just awesome! I was already a fan. Saw them several times after that with Fog Hat and others. Ronnie stole the show always.
Saw them at the Country Club in Reseda CA. Twice!
Great band
This is serious........Rock and roll!
The most BADASSERY rock video ever! Ronnie,Jim Alcivar, Glenn Letch and of course my buddy Davey Pattison tear it up! Wish this woulda been released back in the day how big would’ve Gamma become! My fav band of all time
Thank you for this rarity! 👏👏👏🤘
Simply awesome 🤘
