Hi, I once was on an Emirates A380 departing KUL 30mins late. The pilots got authorisation to take off from an intermediary taxiway and we had a surprisingly 4th spool. I was amazed as I really felt an increase in thrust and the engine note was of course to die for. Ahhh, A380, thanks Emirates still operates them heavily.
@@matt18333 I am talking about the absolute max from the engine, RR themselves say that although it is only rated to 84,000 lbs of thrust safely, it can produce 92,000 lbs. We don't use the full amount, but we get the thrust up higher than most airliners on rainy days.
Wondered if anyone onboard captured the video of this particular takeoff, would have been the best sounding Trent 900 spoolup to ever exist. One of the good ones is the Lufthansa A380 taking off from Shanghai Pudong airport, but it isnt TOGA unfortunately.
The first spool up is to stabilise the engines so that thrusts of the engines do not increase asymmetrically and possibly cause the plane to go sideways. This is standard practice. Usually the second spool is setting the final takeoff thrust. However this model of aircraft with this particular engine type (A380 with RR engines) limits thrust to a not-so-high value below a certain speed to prevent engine issues. That is what it was doing here (at second spool), and since the final takeoff thrust setting was really high in this case, the engines required a third spool to go to the set takeoff thrust.
That growl on the 3rd spool up is just awesome.
Ikr!
Hell yeah! 👑

Who else gets goosebumps on the 3rd spool up
Me
Factually the most musical turbofan with its 24 fan blades producing a perfect 5th interval
The growl and the high pitch go so well together 😮
They produce a perfect 5th musical interval
Toga departures is a perfect example of beautiful!
The echo makes it sound more amazing. It gives me goosebumps
dannggg! that is just magic. 320,000lbs combined thrust. And lucky me gets to fly on a BA A380 tomorrow from ORD to LHR.
That gave me goosebumps
That was majestic
This is what it sounds like when I start up my PC in the morning :D
happy new year
Omg same, i'm an IT student and i so relate to this 😅
Hope your having a great year so far 😊
You cant tell me that the growl isnt sexy!
I thought I was the only one that thought that haha
You’re not alone G
Did You Really Have To Call It “Sexy”
Yep, problem? @@HelixNeblua
Music to my ears😊😊😊
That is because it IS music. The only engine on the market to make music during spooling up.
we hammer them on rainy days, gets us up quicker, 92,000 pounds of thrust from each twin turbo engine, we love it.
The Trent 900s are only certified to 84,000 lbs of thrust with airlines only using 72,000 or 76,000 depending on pin programming
@@matt18333 that's airline certs, airbus certefied it it 92,000 pounds, thrust me, I was there.
twin turbo....

People underestimate the a380 saying that it is quiet. Just give it enough power, and it'll give you goosebumps
You don't hear the engine as much in the cabin.
when you ever feel sad just rememeber that this A380 Sung in the rain and broke all physics by just doing that
engine spool up howl and roaring like a bear 🐻. Which mean that is the sound of the Rolls Royce Trent 900
Correct 😊

If that gives you goosebumps...oh boy..you have no idea what concorde sounded like....
How common does that happen?
Y E S !!
why 3 spool-ups?
because doing two sounds better and they probably new they were being recorded

There was a similar video but closer, the dude deleted it
Aren’t you not allowed to use a phone on the tarmac 🥶…
Around refuelling or open tanks..you can not.
🤤
Way to loud don’t you think
Speed doesn't match turbofan's sound
go rolls royce!!!!!!
