  • Well, this is it! (for now) I've done all I plan to do to the Blazer before driving it through the winter. I've sunk way too much time and money into this disaster, but exactly how much? I lay it all on the line. I also examine the current state of the Blazer ZR2 market and see what's available in my area as of now.

    I watched all your videos, a month ago, I bought 99 zr2, been working on it, paid $2,000 for mine, ac don't work, everything else, 180,000 miles. Rusty been replacing rockers, lower back quarter panels. I think putting $2000. Into is worth it, from what I've seen out there. I own a 4 door blazer and this is like my 5th blazer, mainly get one, doe little work drove it for 2 or 3 years. Get another when it dies on me.or needs more then I'm willing to put into it. I may do some new shocks and new balls, joints ect, the kits don't look bad, if I do the work myself.

    Wow not bad! I was expecting much worse to be honest. Now you got a pretty decent zr2. One thing you didn’t add in that I was curious about was hours spent working on it and editing the videos. Either way I’m glad you bought a zr2 cause I wouldn’ t have found this diamond in the rough of a RUclips channel 😅

      I was going to attempt to add up the hours, but it would have been impossible. Basically a year of weekends, whatever that equals!

    16k!!????? Bro I did more mods brand new in 2024 for 2k rear diff bearings brakes etc

    Watching the series brought me back to the example I bought new in 2002 which stickered for just under $32k. At around 105k miles in 2009 I had many of the more "minor" problems, but the body rusting out was the biggest issue. At the time the thing was really not worth much, and certainly not as much as I got for it under the Cash For Clunkers program. Of course I always had an S-series Blazers since my first car, which was a 87, and do still miss having one.

    Anybody got some advice for me; I am looking at a 2004 ZR2 that has only seen 2 MN winters (very nice body and frame rust-wise) but has 211k on it and the guy wants $3500 for it. He says runs and drives great and there is "no reason you won't like it." What do you guys think? Anything in particular I should look for with a Blazer that has that many miles? Thanks!

    You probably replaced some things that may have not needed it, and just focus on what required to be fixed. And using top quality factory fluids and lubricants.
    If you are keeping this vehicle, it was money well spent. Your bought a pre- GM bankrupt Blazer which is likely better than newer 4x4's just my opinion. A neighbor near me in the SW has one 2000 Blazer sitting in her driveway she inherited. No rust. I have my eye on it. It has the rear gate spare BFGoodrich tires, and factory alum fancy wheels. The 2000 Blazer is RARE, was owned by a elderly woman..... I think lots of relays on these. I have a 1990 4Runner 5spd with 310K miles. no rust

    I had a black 2 door (non-zr2) that looks a lot like this one! Ended up donating it to kidney car after the tranny started slipping and lost the reverse gear. Kinda wish I had kept it and restored it now.

    Hey there Mr. Phillips, nice series on this vehicle. I'm wondering about the rear suspension. Were the ZR2's rear ends all lower than the front ends as a rule? The rear end from a stance point of view looks to be lower, like there is something wrong with the suspension???

      I've been wondering the same thing, actually. When I crank up the torsion bars enough to get the control arms off the bump stops, there is a definite rear squat. I suspect my leaf springs are worn out. I'll probably address it next year.

    I picked up a '97 GMC Jimmy in May 2021 when I moved to Alaska and needed a vehicle while my other cars were in transit. Since then, I've slowly torn it apart thinking it'll just be one more thing. This series has me feeling better about replacing everything and spending 3k on parts. Thanks for the videos!

    I have watched your Blazer series. You young man are a "Blazer Whisperer." I have a 2000 4.3 4wd I bought from auction in 2014. Now have 212,000. Starting to have issues, I believe upper manifold gasket gasket leak. I can see slight coolant leak just where heater core hose goes into manifold right behind the radiator. I've asked an independent shop about replacing gasket, they don't want to touch it. My mechanic passed away about 6 weeks ago. About 2.5 years ago had ball joints, upper control arms, idler arms, pitman replaced. Now Firestone says they all are bad so they can't do front end alignment. Front driver's tire was worn on inside edge. This grandma does what I can to keep it running, because I haul my bicycle to the Trailhead to ride for heart health exercise. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and "get 'er done again. Great series on your Winter Blazer!!

      2000 4.3 4wd 4 door Jimmy. Only major job was transmission rebuilt (reverse went out) 1st year. Fuel pump replaced 3d year.

      Sounds like it's been through the wringer! I have trouble believing your front end rebuild only lasted a couple of years, but the lifespan of those parts varies widely based on driving conditions and part quality. Good thing I got the absolute cheapest front end parts I could find! Best of luck to you.

    Nicely done. Even if you got a seeming better deal money wise, there's so much value to having all that stuff fixed by your own hands. You know what was done and that it was done right. Like you said, all those other rides would be needing the same repairs. Hope it gives you many good miles (let's just see about that next video . . .)

    Could have been a lot worse! Peace of mind being that it's going to last for years and years without major money going into it. I got my 2000 blazer trailblazer for $2000 and I've put roughly $1000 back into it already. But it still needs the entire a/c and heating system torn down and cleaned out similar to yours minus the mice haha, and a suspension rebuild. But all in all I think that blazer is a really sweet ride now and wish mine was so good

    I got my zr2 with 74k miles for 5000 maple dollars about a decade ago. 186k miles on her now. The memories. Had an old Jimmy where the actuator switch on the transfer case went bad(the one with three vacuum connectors) and the tccm did a lot of clicking when it was trying to work and the buttons flashed on the dash. Saw a comment on the blazer forum from a former tech that said tccm was a common failure point as water can get in and corrode and that's most likely cause of no response from buttons. I only have a vague memory of looking up the 4wd wiring but I believe if the tccm isn't clicking then there's just a wire and the harnesses separating it from the dash switch, if switch has power it should send it and start some clicky clicky. I tried a new switch and no go so I decided to shoot from the hip and order the tccm(current one has the green crusties so I was encouraged by that to order new). Should be here any day now. Hope it's not just a wire or I'll be sour when I plug in the new module. It's like redneck roulette. Probably should have tested at the harness for power but... meh. I plan on being lucky so it should all work out haha.

      Update: tccm got in today... should have tested the wiring

      Oof, that sucks. I've gotten as far as visually inspecting the 4wd module, just to make sure it wasn't flooded or something. Everything looked fine. Whatever it turns out to be, I will have videos next year about finding and fixing it.

      @@PhillipsHomeRepair Been busy with some other things. Came back to the 4wd with probing contacts in mind. I gave the harness a good press and wiggle into the new tccm. It made a couple clicks and and 2hi lit up on the dash. Hit 4hi and heard the transfercase engage... I get by alright in spite of myself sometimes haha.

    Bro I like what you did with the razor blazer. Will you hug? You have done a lot of stuff on it. For a loss, some of the stuff that you proof like you need to break the front end the. Rear, no, that stuff, someone that stuff was needed to be done, not as none. As a regular, that was just more than maintenance on the car. But the car had problems anyway. But looking at the price of the total I think half of it was. What's the what's good
