    We should add add a handful of channa dal while soaking,it gives the golden brown colour to dosa and makes it crispy. I am south Indian and dosa is very regular food here. So I thought to share here. Also do not discard the soaked water,it should be used while grinding. Mix the batter once with your hand,this will improve the fermentation.Its said that the warmth we have in our body is good to set the fermentation process.

    good sis.I am from tamilnadu,I want to say small correction.the skin less or white urad dal need only 2 hour for soaking. if you soak up for 12 hours,you will not get puffy and smoothly dough. black urad or with skin urad need 6 hours soaking.you can remove the black skin by your hand.methi need 12 hours(same as by you shown)if you grind the rice as a coarse s paste, you will get perfect idly.if you grind the rice finely, you will get the perfect dosa.thank you.

    Tried it. And it is the perfect combination. The batter after fermentation grows double in size and without adding salt we can keep in the fridge for 4-5 days. I did it and then made idlis, the next day dosa, then uttapam. And they were the best. Dosa turns out crispy, idlis very soft. Thank you for the recipe ❤

    Best rice for idli is ponnu raw rice and I generally use RICE = 4*urad dal. I use cooked rice instead of poha

    How long can you store the batter, as with this measurement it becomes quite a lot to use it at one time for a small family of two

    Sorry very wrong method of making this batter.
    Firstly we need to wash both the rice and udad dal nicely. And then soak it in water.
    Secondly never ever soak poha at the beginning itself.
    Third never discard the soaked water this water only has to be used while grinding rice and dal
    Poha shud be washed and ground at the last minute or soaked for half and hour maximum before grinding.
    Your dosa batter was too thick.
    Also your batter didnot ferment nicely else your batter would hv overflown from the vessel

    • @umaramesh7876
      @umaramesh7876 5 лет назад

      @@HarpreetKaur-nn4er wash both the dal and rice very nicely. Secondly soak the dal and rice for less time only four hours and ferment for only 6 to 7 hours.
      If you ferment for long time batter will become sour.
      Good luck

    • @umaramesh7876
      @umaramesh7876 5 лет назад +1

      @@HarpreetKaur-nn4er I don't think so. If you add water batter will become think for making idlis.
      You can make dosas out of it. Just add water mix nicely and leave it for some time like that only. When the water comes up, discard the water and use this batter for making dosas
