He said in an interview once that his act was precisely written, and before it ever was seen/heard on stage it had been practiced and performed in front of a mirror a hundred or more times. George was one of the best there ever was...at virtually every stage of his career, once he got his feet under him. In the seventies, he released a series of record albums, recordings of stand-up gigs he did at colleges and other large venues. I know that those albums can be found on RUclips. I'd highly recommend finding and listening to the one called Class Clown, whether for reaction or just for your own fun.

Absolutly correct, those of us that grew up with him consider him an extraordinary wordsmith & a comic genius. & while this early stuff is light hearted fun. In his later years he got into hard hitting social commentary. But his genius and wordsmith abilities never faded with time.

Heinz Erhardt a German comedian who performed between the end of the 1920's and into the 60's was also someone who would be very meticoulous on the performance. His humor was clean and maybe sometimes silly but at the same time he was really gifted in writing funny poems and playing around with the German language. His daughter said that once in an interview about him at least (in terms of his work ethic and preparation).

ure he wrote it. He wrote all his stuff. then refined it, memorized it, then shot his special. Heres the insane part... he did this EVERY YEAR. Most comedians these days Will take 2 years or a lil longer to write, refine, and film a special.

I’m told that George would write 8 or 9 pages of writing his routine. He treated it like a regular job. HBO was the way to better exposure and am I glad he did. HBO gave George a vehicle in which to do it his routines in full and unfiltered. And he’d do it every year.

I was a George Carlin fan the moment I saw him be the Hippie Dippy Weatherman in the 60's. As a 10 year old, I was enthralled with his humor. I bought his comedy albums and then saw him live in the 70's. I never laughed so hard. I hope you dig further into his comedy. Richard Pryor, also is someone you need to watch. His comedy was great.

Carlin was brilliant. On top of everything you noted, which was a lot, he gave the audience the respect of not stopping to explain anything. He gave you just long enough to think about what he was saying and you got it, in the same instance, he did a whole bit on expressions of time! The fact that you said Jerry’s name in the same hemisphere of thought as Carlin was a compliment to Jerry and I think Seinfeld would take it that way!

I have to commend you, because you are the FIRST reactor I have seen that had looked at George's EARLIER routines. NO one else has. They are mostly his later ones and the one he did not too long before he died. Which is not to say that those routines were not good, they are all EXCELLENT and worthy of watching, but so are his earlier ones that you are reacting to. You have also picked up on things that some reactors don't comment on, like his facial expressions. I have been watching George Carlin since I first saw him on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1967 when I was 20 years old. Back then he was in a suit and tie and a "business man's haircut." Not long after though he started growing his hair and beard, changed to casual clothes, which most adults said , he went "Hippy on us."
The one thing I always loved was his facial expressions and how it added to what he was saying. It was always hard to listen to his records because those facial expressions, of course, are lost on a recording. It really did lose something IF you couldn't SEE him. I have loved George Carlin through the years and when watching all these routines again, I see how RELEVANT a lot of his later material is to our world today. It is almost like he could see the future, but it also shows how much has not changed. He was a GENIUS and his routines ALWAYS made you THINK and/or LEARN something, He said many things that maybe a lot of us would have loved to say, but didn't have the courage. I MISS him and I can ONLY imagine WHAT he would say if he was still with us. I hope you do more reactions on George Carlin, there are SO many routines to pick from on You Tube! I HAVE SUBSCRIBED. I REALLY ENJOYED YOUR REACTION! P.S. I think you would REALLY enjoy his "THINGS THAT MAKE US SIMILAR," "YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS." "FLYING, and THE AIRPORT," "STUFF" and "SAYINGS that are meaningless"

George Carlin has always been a master of words. It's a different form of observational humor. Most comedians talk about situations that come up in life. Carlin focuses more on the words that are said than the actions. My favorite in this set was him talking about the guy that said "I've been in this line forever!" Carlin's genius comes from the absurdity of words being used - that they aren't nearly as accurate as first thought. Like Polo said Carlin's facial expressions and body language conveys his message and makes it fun. The words alone, as clever as they are, wouldn't be enough to make you laugh. But his inflections, voice changes, and timing makes him one of the Kings of comedy.

I think this is my first time watching a younger George. I am used to his last 15-20 years of stand up. He has a lot of specials. Can find them on Amazon prime and HBO, sure there are others too. But those are the ones I watch the most. His specials are always well thought out. He isn't necessarily one of those laugh out loud, belly aching, comedians. It's all critical thinking and points. Very similar to this one, but all different kinds of topics. This was pretty tame for him.
