This just happened to my poodle pomeranian mix. It wasn't the first time, but I remember when it did happen years ago I was crying not knowing how to help him. It's happened to him a few times so now I just hold him tight rock him back and forth and let him stand up when he can walk on his own. It's such a terrible thing watching him struggle like that.
Thank you for posting this video. My black lab just suffered her first episode a couple of days ago, and I was unable to express the vet in words what had happened, she thought it was a heart condition of some sort. Thanks to your video I'm pretty confident it was a seizure, which I'll show the vet today, and hopefully get the proper care my dog will need.
My dog had this kind of seizure about an hour ago for the very first time. :( It looked excactly like this and he was drooling a lot as well. It was so hard watching, knowing you can't do anything. I know this is an old video, but thank you for putting this up, even though it's hard for me to watch.
@RoNdTraeThank you for your comment. In order to diagnose this as an epileptic seizure our vet requested we try to get in on video tape. I thought posting this video may help others tiring to diagnose their pet as well. If you had read my original post, you would have seen this. My dogs are a big part of my life, and I take their care and well-being very seriously.
I had a dalmatian who was epileptic, he used to have seizures pretty often, about 5-6 times a month, it always helped him when we stayed with him during the seizure, and you really should watch out for your dog not to hit its self, it also helps if you try calming them and massaging their limbs during it. At least it helped mine. Hope your dog gets better with medication :)
thank you for sharing, this just happened to my dog and I almost had a heart attack. I am taking him to the vet in the morning. he looked exactly the same as your dog. it was the scariest moment ever. lasted about a minute.
My dog suffers from seizures too. I have 3 dogs. When my Terrier is seizing, I lead the two others away, They need to be in a safe and calm environment during a seizure! All what I can do is hold him at the ground, try to calm him down, low voice and no hectic around him, when possible dim the lights. I have Potassium Bromide when he is in a seizure which I give him rectal, it is not easy though. He is every day on a seizure medication which is called Zonisamide.
My dog also gets epileptic seizures. Just don't be scared. Keep your dog calm and let the dog have his/her episode. Just don't let the dog fall or get hurt and just be there for assistance. There's nothing you can do. Don't put anything in the mouth. If it happens too often, please take him/her to the Vet! The vet will run some tests and prescribe medicine.
just a small suggestion- even though the other dogs are scared for him, i'd try and keep them away, or at least quiet. i have a labarador/boxer mix who suffers from seizures, and i've noticed her seizures are longer (and sometimes come in clusters) if there are loud noises/distracting stimuli around. i turn off the lights & tv, and keep it quiet except for me telling her "it's okay", and the seizures don't last nearly as long now. beautiful dog, by the way!! i hope he's still doing well!
our 7 month old Lily had her first seizure yesterday - scary stuff to see unexpected! wondering if hunter's buddies can sense the seizure before it happens, and if so what they do to warn you/hunter? all the best to you and your pack! :)
Thanks for this, my dog just did this a few minutes ago and it freaked me out. He was lying down and got up almost and spun in a circle a few times very wobbly then stopped and his whole body was shaking! Only lasted about 15-20 seconds. Never happened before!
My dad made a real stupid decision to put his brown chihuahua puppy on a horse's back for a picture. The poor thing fell and landed on his head. He's still going strong like it never even happened, but every once in a a blue moon, he'll have a seizure. This dog'll be fine...
The dogs were barking because they can sense an epileptic attack, there are service dogs that can sense epileptic attacks on humans 5 to 10 minutes before an attack . In that case the dog was fine were he was theres nothing you can do but to keep an animal or person from hurting themselves, in this video the owner kept talking to him, giving the four legged animal space to balance himself and let the attack pass.
@dlshster So sorry to hear about you Golden. Hunter does have epilepsy and takes Phenobarbital twice a day. The meds do prevent him from have frequent attacks. I would show this video to you your vet and ask for a prescription. It is very cheap and worth every penny.
my dog has epilepsy and this is normally how she behaves when she’s about to start fitting. she can’t walk in a straight line and has trouble with her motor skills. then she’ll collapse and start shaking. its horrible watching them go through it because all you can really do is wait for it to stop on its own.
just this feb, my 7month old dog, kingkong who's a half breed lab, started to twitch/have seizures. it really bothers me, i don't know what to do & what caused him to jerk any time of the day. the vet said it was due to rabies/viral infection & he has no chance to be saved. but i think it's misdiagnosis. the vet just gave multivitamins & antibiotic which i think can't cure my dog's twitching. it breaks my heart seeing him suffering. i love him. he is my best companion & i dont want to lose him.
thank you for sharing this, I know have a better idea of what happened to my dog today. He totally collapsed for a while then staggered around for another few minutes. His eyes also rolled to the back of his head. I thought he was having a heart attack for a while. Very scary
Thank u very much for putting this video up.. our 5 yr old lab named Jack just had his first seizure today.. it freaked me out. He was acting like this at first then he was rolling around uncontrollably til he finally stopped & calmed down.. now he is just laying around like normal & eating like nothing has happened.. I don't know what triggered him to do this, he came in from doing his bisiness outside like normal. I don't know if he will do it again or not..
My 6yr old lab Luna had hers yesterday. It's apparently a very common thing for labradors to have. It looked a bit diffrent than in this video though. Luna suddenly had a lot of trouble keeping her balance and kept one of her paws tucked, then she pretty much collapsed on the ground and sat very still with her head thrown back for like 20 seconds. After that she got up like nothing happened. Vet said to keep an eye on it if it happens again and to get it on video, apart from that there is not much we can do atm.
we have an epiletic collie X springer spaniel.he's on meds but when he does have an attack/seizure,we've found if we get him cold,he comes out quicker but it's still very distressing to see our dog fitting
My 4 years old golden retriever suffered his first seizure two days ago, out of all videos out there, this one most closely describes how his seizure looked like. Vet says they won't do anything about my dog unless there is a second seizure. I find it very different from most other videos of seizures, dog looks a lot like he's going to faint, rather than having any sort of grand mal seizure. This one (and mine also) looked very conscious, but just "losing his feet". Is this also typical epi?
@kcmonroe2002 From what I have heard labs are more prone to epilepsy than other breeds. All of my labs (3) have experienced the reverse sneezing, and the first time scared us as well. I think it was due to the amount of pollen in the air since they all had it at the same time.
This exact same thing happened with my 5 yo Yorkie on Monday 😢 i was terrified cried my heart out.. that was her first seizure..and hope the last How can I help her or do something to prevent it ??? 😭
Try going to some different vets to see what they says. You could also do some reasearch and give the vets examples of what it can be. I have epilepsy and the doctors didn't mean, that when I got side effects of my medication, that it was that. So I went to another doctor, WHO believed me and fixed it all so that I'm on the right way Again. If you're unsecure about your vet, then try seeing some others. Hope this helped ;)
@anne0303 Anne, Thank you for your comment. We realize that a safe and quiet environment is best for a dog experiencing a seizure. In order to diagnose this as an epileptic seizure our vet requested we try to get in on video tape. I thought posting this video may help others tiring to diagnose their pet as well.
oh my gosh iam crying i dont want this to happen to my precious baby.. i hope pros wouLd eventuaLLy know how to cure them forever. this is not good sight its heartbreaking :'((
it can be educational maybe owners that didnt know what was going on with their dog have an idea and can go to the vet. This doesnt seem sadistic in anyway
@monjanse I think they can sense that something is very wrong and they are trying to communicate him. Maybe trying to get his attendtion. Not really sure why
This happened to my 3 months old japanese akita female. First time today. The moves were exactly the same like the ones in the video, only she did not "walk" that is trip this fast as this dog was, the moves were the same, only weaker, with less enegry and speed?
It's been happening to my dog for the last month and my vet told me it can be idiopathic epilepsy or a brain tumor :( we don't know stiil what it is, but tomorow he's going to star taking Phenobarbiton , I'm just hoping it's epilepsy
My dog had the same thing he was a cane Corso almost one he was foaming biting his tounge and blood everywhere so I made a choice and we had to put him down it was the right thing to do but no more pain up there
My dog got epilepsi and it have happened twice now, we've gotten medicine to help him if he is about to get one, If he doesn't want to go outside snd just wants to sleep all day then that means he is about to get an attack
Yes this is helpful, but if any of your dogs have a seizure, you must try and find somewhere quiet for them, you shouldnt even talk to them as their brain is like a pendulum rocking to and fro, (not literally) if you speak to them or there is alot of noise around the seizure could last alot longer, as they are trying to focus on your voice or other noise, then just let them recover at their own pace, which could be an hour or two. Glad your dog is ok tho.
my dog is having the same..i got scared the doctor first told me he was not going to prescribe anthing...and if things get worst then it would be time to start doing it.....today my dog had three seizures..this is worring me
@chrisven1000 If my dog had three in one day, I would be very concerned as well. I hope your vet has given you something to control them. Since starting Hunter on Phenobarbital he has only had a few seizures and those were because we forgot to give him is meds.
prettyunicorn214 make sur he is calm and if it still has it just call the vets but make sure it has no stress and I it has puppy's keep the puppy's away from it stay calm the seizure lasts for 5 min
Put the dog to sleep?? I certainly hope not!! There are a variety of meds for canine epilepsy that your vet can prescribe for this condition. My dog, Max, was diagosed when he was 1 year old. This happens to "pure bred" dogs (I'm not sure what they're called exactly) quite often, along with other dangerous diseases. It really ıs not funny. This dog ıs having an epileptic fitç They can last from 30 seconds to an hour and ıs really horrıble. Have a look on lıne for the ınfo. I hope you won't find ıt funny next time you see one.
It's not sick, its informational... It helped me to diagnose what was wrong with my Lab... very similar...
Keep other dogs away from him when having crisis since they could attack him because of his strange behaviour.
Good ikw

This really broke my heart. I hope he's doing okay.

Can dogs die of epilepsy??

Thanks for posting! I did not know what epilepsy looked like in dogs! I've seen one seizure but not this. Hope he is doing better.
his poor playmates must be terrified when this happens to him, best wishes to you both.
That dog is so adorable!!

You should of gotten rid of the other dogs the last thing he needs is barking while he's tripn
Its not so easy. The same happened with my dog.The other was barking to close to him

One of my aunt's two dogs Walter has seizures that last up to 8 to 10 minutes. He's the very first dog with a disability I've ever even met

my dog had this.. he soon died very slowly and painfully ..i just refused to put him to sleep but i had him right by my side :'(
Too much Stress :(
This dog has confidence, epilepsy owned :O
My dog just had an epileptic attack, very scary stuff to see.
@dlshster

i bet the other dogs were barking cause they could sence the problem. dogs are really smart 🐩🐺🐕
Thanks for posting, very helpful.
Very sad... :-(
I hope Hunter is ok. I didn't know this tpye of illness could happen to dogs. I'm sorry.

I have epilepsy i never knrw animals could have it.....considering that i love cats this broke my heart
My 7 month old catahoula just did this exact thing. Does he need to go to the vet er?
i hate it when shit happends to animals..makes me cry!
Awww poor woofers, does it hurt them?
i fell sad for ur lab ,..
my lad lad had the same problem today
its very depressing !!
please suggest me remedies
This looks more like Exercise Induced Collapse to me. Testing is availalble, so I would rule that out before treating for unconfirmed epilepsy.
Got to a doc! he needs medicine

Is he ok?
poor dog, hang in there buddy
so sad. he looks just like my Chocolate Lab, Biskit (yes, i am aware of the misspell) luckily, she doesnt have seizures, she is 8, almost 9 years old

@monjanse I think they can sense that something is very wrong and they are trying to help him
yeahh you can get different forms of seizures some are worse then others my mum was aware when she was in middle of a seizure once
Poor guy...😢
@monjanse I have 6 dogs and when the epileptic one has a fit they immediately want to run to him..they get very upset too
that's a long time he needs a vet fast!
help ! my lab all of a sudden falls on the floor and has a seizure then runs around hitting everything in its way for like 25 minutes!
D: I don't want my dog to have epilepsy... the irony of me being epileptic. :/
She's a Schnauzer... So yeah, they can get that.
How yall revive him?!
@anne0303

@RoNdTrae A dog with epileptic attacks should not be taken to the vet every time they have one. The vet cant help to get it over

D: cute doggy but sad video
couldnt you lay down the dog so that he doesnt hurt him self ?? or to atleast make it easier for him you know ?
I think this just happened to my dog. Anyone know how to treat it?
prettyunicorn214 make sur he is calm and if it still has it just call the vets but make sure it has no stress and I it has puppy's keep the puppy's away from it stay calm the seizure lasts for 5 min
Casey Kelley
Any medicine for it
Mohan p if it's severe epilepsy the best thing to do is put it to sleep the meds are crap

dont worry the dog is only dancinggg -.- duhh
Poor dog!
@maurogino18 I wish he were merely dancing. It is heart breaking to see him go through this and not being able to help. I would appear from your comment, that you are both very young and immature or you are just plain heartless.
poor puppy
Poor dog😢😢😢
The dogs are acting nervous of noncommunication to the labby just like when your losing someone going randomly unconscious. this video hurts me a lot to just watch and not help... you could say im a bit of a dog whisperer but it takes no logic to the situation
Thats what happened with my dog yesterday
This happens to "pure bred" dogs (I'm not sure what they're called exactly) quite often, along with other dangerous diseases. This is due to the fact that many of these conditions are a consequence of breeding only within the race and therefore often inbreeding.
It must be terrible to see one's companion suffering like that. May I just ask you not to buy dogs from a breeder but instead take dogs from shelters and give them a home. Stop this morally reprehensible practice, do it for the dogs.
🙏😱🔥 ♥️♥️😭😭😭
I wish i dont get 90 thousand view when I get drunk
I have Epilepsy
taking Phenobarbital s really really bad for dof organism -- especially for kidneys... so. i d like to say, ask your vet. for new medicine, there are a lot of other human antiepileptics using for animals.. : )

It really ıs not funny. This dog ıs having an epileptic fitç They can last from 30 seconds to an hour and ıs really horrıble. Have a look on lıne for the ınfo. I hope you won't find ıt funny next time you see one.
