First story: "You can't appreciate talent" is the equivalent of saying "I'm the only one who likes this, but because I feel so important I want everyone else to like it too". Unfortunate that this mom will never get the hint.
Second story: Had I been in that situation, I would've probably stood up soon after Ellen had gotten her order in, said that I'd seen enough of how the in-law family was like, asked if my GF wanted to ditch out with me, and then walked out on them. A shame that she had been too infected by her mom's entitlement, or else that would've been a good time to encourage her to break contact with her parents. Maybe she'll learn the hard way that her parents don't actually care about her anymore, with their "do-over daughter" getting all the attention, and she'll become their personal slave/ATM. Or maybe she won't, seeing how normalized she thinks her parents' behavior is. Poor, naive soul.
Third story: That has to be the one of the most devastating things you can do to a kid with a passionate interest, and they got off without any repercussions. But in a way, this is a good reminder for kids to always write their names on their valuables in case they're bringing it with them to public places, should it ever get lost. That way, thieves can't get away with stealing it in case it would ever be misplaced. Also make sure that whatever place you're visiting doesn't have any "no search" policy in case of missing items, because that's just heartless and disrespectful to any visitors, and a huge warning that thieving entitled people will have free reign. Also, teach your kids to always be wary of adult strangers who asks them for favors, because they're never up to any good.

My brother had a friend who brought a binder full of them to school and then never saw it again because some jerk thought they could just take it! All in all, I know how heartbreaking it can be, especially if OP worked on that collection for years. If that kid wanted Pokemon cards, they could've gotten them at Target or Wal*Mart for as little as five dollars. Yeah, me, too. I was yelling at the screen, "Don't leave the cards out! Tell your parents and let them take care of the cards!!" Something similar happened to me at about the same age, but worse, nobody believed me when I told them my stuff had been stolen. All the adults just said, "Nobody stole it. You just misplaced it." - even though the thieves had taunted me with having stolen it. To this day, being dismissed like that by the adults hurts more than the theft.

To be honest, everyone involved was too nice. The band teacher caved instead of reporting her, and the crowd didn't boo. The area I grew up in, as terrible as it could get sometimes, wouldn't have even let her finish the song. We'd have booed her off the stage within the first few lines of the song. Probably a jerky thing to do, but that's my area for you. It's not all bad, though. People from my area will sometimes give gifts to people who go up on stage like that and do a really good job. We operate on both sides of the stick.

That Pokemon card story punched a HUGE hole in my heart. When I was little my binder of cards was stolen from my backpack. The most heartbreaking part was that they were my brother's cards, my brother who had recently died. I never got them back...

I had a huge pokemon card collection as a kid too. One of my friends had decided they didnt like them anymore after years of collecting and just gave me a ton of their cards. I had a pretty sweet collection and was hooked after getting so many awesome cards. I showed off my collection to a different friend and they thought it was awesome. We were playing when I left my room for something, leaving my friend alone. I came back, and I saw they had a cool back, I touched it, curious of the texture and they snapped at me not to touch it. It was really important to them, and they didnt want me to ruin it. I shrugged it off and we continued playing. Once they had left, I realized my pokemon cards were missing. I panicked, looking around the house, not knowing where I would have left them. I was really bad at finding things, so my mom tried to help. And then I realized, my friend probably stole them. My mom called my friends mom and they drove back over to return my cards, thank goodness. From then on, whenever that friend came over, I would hide my pokemon cards. I later found out they had stolen several of my littlest pet shops too. I was at their house for a birthday and saw a familiar lps, I'm like 'hey, I used to have one like this, but I lost it.' Then I looked at the bottom of the paws and saw my initials. I marked all my lps with my initials. They tried to make up an excuse as to why their lps would have my initials but I wasnt buying it. I looked through all their lps that day and took back what they had stolen. After that day, we were not friends anymore.

Had that kid been me, with the way I was about my stuff as a kid, me and the EK would've been going to blows. I'd legitimately be caving his face in. I had a slight temper problem as a child, but my mother put me in so many programs as a kid to help me better channel that anger positively, which did help. But when you take things that's mine or bully my friends, all bets are off. And because of this, I punched a kid for trying to steal a Yugioh card from me when I was at school (during the last few days of school, we were allowed to bring board games, handheld games, trading cards, etc, since if you were passing or failing at this point, it was set in stone). I was dueling with a friend and I had a Blue Eyes White Dragon (yeah, this was back when Blue Eyes was considered one of the best cards in the game). One of the kids (I'll call him Shawn) was a kid I did NOT get along with all school year. He was a loud mouth, a bit of a bully to me and my friends for being fat or wearing glasses and playing with Pokémon and Yugioh cards, all around just a prick. After me and my friend had finished dueling, we set all our cards on the desk so we could show what cards we had. One of my friends was mentioning how they can't believe I had a Blue Eyes and how strong it was. Unfortunately, she said this in earshot of Shawn. I let my friend use my deck to duel another friend of mine as I asked the teacher if I could go to the bathroom. She gave me a hall pass and told me sure. She was watching the class, but she kinda wasn't. She was in her own world listening to the radio or reading a newspaper. You know, boring adult stuff to a kid. When I got back, my friend I was letting use my deck had mention Shawn had took some of my cards and said he'd rip them up. He took a few of my cards off the desk while they were playing including my fucking Blue Eyes!
Now, let me paint you a picture. This was back in 4th grade. I'm a large kid (I played a lot of sports, so I had muscle and fat and I was the second tallest kid in my class) so I went to Shawn and told him to "Give me back my freaking Yugioh cards!" He said he didn't have them. I told him that my friend said he took them which he still denied. I reached into his pocket and grabbed whatever I can grasp in my fist. I pull my hand out and what do you know, it's my Yugioh card now crumpled in my hand after grabbing so hard. He said that it was his (obvious bullshit is obvious since he made fun of us for playing with them so much). My mother had me do something ever since I was a kid and out my initials on things I own to shown ownership of it. So on all my cards, I wrote my initials on the bottom of each card and showed him that it said "O.P." right above where the ATK and DEF points were. I told him to give me the rest of my cards and he said he threw them away. I go to the garbage to look and I fortunately didn't see them in there. I go back to Shawn with my fist balled up and yell at him to give me my cards. By this point, everyone (including the teacher) saw the commotion rising. Before he had a chance to say he didn't have them again, I tackle him against a wall and down to the ground. I hit my head against the wall during the tackle and I was on top of him swinging at his head. I only got one hit in before my teacher pulled me off of him and and the teacher from the next class (who I guess heard the scuffle) was holding Shawn from chasing me.
Later, were in the disciplinary office and talking to the dean and explain what happened. Shawn spins some (half bullshit) story of how I attacked him ouf of nowhere. I tell the dean that Shawn took my cards and said he'd rip them up and throw them away. The dean looks annoyed at both of us. Looking back, she probably thought how stupid it was that kids are fighting over some cards. She ask Shawn if he took my cards and he denies it. I said he lying and that he had them in his pockets. She tells him to empty his pockets and Shawn reluctantly does. He then says that the cards are his and I retort that they're mine and my initials are on them and where they are. I also say the rest of my cards have my initials on them in the same spot. We go back to the classroom with the dean in tow and show her the rest of my cards and my friends back me up. Even though my reasons rang true, the school still had a no fighting policy. But since the school year was less than a week over and suspensions for fighting was worth three days, we just had detention for the rest of the day which is a lot less of a punishment since I just read all day. My mother got a call from the school and I did get reprimanded for throwing the first punch as opposed to telling a teacher. But I still feel that I came out on top in this entire incident.
