- A big part of this area was always going to be the station building. I've been working hard on it over the past month and managed to get it mostly completed. I'll continue to work on it for the next video and turn my attention to some of the platform details and footbridge.
On a serious note though, you really are one of the most talented railway modellers around. Your attention to detail and eye for what makes a scene authentic is unmatched. Bloody love it!
I totally agree. I wish I had the same patience but at least he has it. It’s like watching Gainsborough teaching us to paint a painting with all the ideas behind the work. Can’t wait till the next one.
I never thought I’d be so personally invested in a RUclips channel! 🙈😂
Agreed!
Loved the announcement at the beginning.. all the stations of my younger years. Lived with a house that backed onto southcote Junction just outside reading. Get 50‘s piling through on the way to Cornwall, lots of 47‘s, 33‘s a few 25‘s using the junction to head of to Basingstoke. Had a line to reading coal merchants at the end of my garden. One a day a 08
Spent many a night shivering on Ealing Broadways platforms looking up at those flats 🥶
You have come an awfully long way in your scratch building, I remember how Ealing Broadway looked a number of years ago. You have certainly captured the look of BR in the home counties back in the early 80s. Smashing.
Have you considered reproducing the giant red BR logo from the Swindon building and mounting it on the stairwell/elevator section? It'd be a dramatic addition and well within the parameters of artistic license.
Always a pleasure to see your process and dedication to detail.
I worked at Villiers House, the large white tall block on the other side of the road from this project. What a fantastic job you have done here. I spent most of my day watching the platforms, instead of doing my Library work (it was the local Uni's Library, for a couple of years). My only regret was that it was 30 yrs too late, I missed all the 52's and 50's :( Thank you. Keep it up.
Stupendous attention to details as ever, you are quick to point out your own misgivings to the finer points, that none of us mere mortals would ever even have considered until you pointed them out to us. I realised this when you were so meticulous when fixing the junk and litter in the edges of the canal that the rest of us, given a glimpse of the layout as we watch progress of one of your trains, would never consider looking for. You know your own faults as you have constructed this mini area of reality, that until you said anything about, we wouldn't have a clue to look for. ABSOLUTELY RUDDY MARVELLOUS.
I like that circut maker your using. Would you do a video on how to make a building for a machine like that. Definitely would be interested in watching that.
You've been very busy. I'm very impressed.
Greetings from Colorado Springs.
Thank you again for a most enjoyable and informative video.
The station is starting to look absolutely amazing, as others have said you are a very talented model maker and your attention to detail, whilst very time consuming, makes all the difference.
Easily my favourite RUclips channel. Even after all these years. Thank you Richard for all the videos and dedication
Thank you for being so prudent providing backgroundinformation along with your updates taking into account that there are several users from abroad enjoying your videos. 👍👍👍
Yay! One hour of model making fun! An appropriate way to spend a Sunday afternoon 😊.
The flat roof of the apartment block could use some puddles, water lasts a surprisingly long time on flat roofs that are not built as carefully, as they should. And since the block was probably built as cheaply as possible by the LocalContractor™ they probably took a few shortcuts during construction.
And each new slab building is an uglier monster than its predecessor. I love it, it just looks great. Although the red bricks almost make it look good. I don't know how it was predominately done in England, but here in Germany, occasionally they used yellow bricks for such buildings to make the misery complete. But the corrugated iron gives the whole thing a… special touch, I have to say. You absolutely need real life examples to add details like this to your models, you just can't make it up. If you haven't studied architecture, that is.
As far as the corrugated iron is concerned: There are embossing tools with which you can make it yourself from thick aluminium foil. Luke Towan once used something like that, but it should be possible to make it yourself with a 3D printer. But I haven't tried it myself yet.
Glad you enjoyed it. We have plenty of buildings here too with those yellow bricks. Lovely!
I watched a video recently by Nightshift (another SUPERB talented model maker) and he created a simple jig to create corrugated iron using cardboard... here is the video:

Oh my Goodness, Is it just me, You are preserving the past in ultra perfection, good and bad? It’s not just art but also preserving history. I’ve become very emotional but well deserved. If you think this in the real world will be gone but you will have preserved history. Much of my history, I might add. I remember a Wimpy Nickerbocker glory don’t you? All the best , Alex
Well, after hearing that intro it definitely brought back memories of watching your older videos. Cheers!
Another, great enjoyable video to watch.
What really I like about this project is the playful, but at the same time serious and respectful recreation of a period and setting so utterly unfashionable and unromantic. This is how I, as a foreigner, remember taking trains and (later) driving between large, post-industrial UK cities in the mid/late eighties. The Age of Thatcherism. (Of course, the countryside was way more charming, and even the worn down cities had a cool vibe, with first class music clubs and lots of fun. As long as you kept some distance to the boot boys and football hooligans roaming the streets at night.)
That's exactly what I'm trying to do. Some nice detail and scenery but in the end sticking to what the hobby is about, having some fun. Cheers
Fantastic work and attention to detail. These buildings take me right back to the 80's. Thanks for sharing.
These buildings are built better than a lot of the crap they are throwing up now, well done Richard
I lovie it, very thourough work, I doubt to be able to build such detailed buildings. Way to go.
Bloody good job mate, enjoying your railway art in Australia.
That opening, night-time sequence is absolutely brilliant; I simply love it! Excellent video, thanks. Eric.
Great details.... on the adverts it would be quite surreal to see the 'AIDS, don't die of ignorance' ad which I remember seeing at Liverpool Street lol.
maybe some plants growing around the drainpipes moss that kind of thing, also litter graffiti , repairs, maybe a smashed window or boarded up one, maybe a football flag or union jack i see lots of them about etc, its the small details that make it, thanks again for sharing brother, very therapeutic/relaxing xxbob&MrTao,x maybe some people
Excellent! That building is the epitome of the 1960s carpeted car park. I’m glad I’m not the only one to notice some of the Wills items are the Yorkie Bars of the plastic sheet world😉
Having a Wimpy Bar makes yours the best layout in the world ☺️
You are an inspiration and should be very proud of yourself. Your understanding of different disciplines is very impressive, long may you have the energy to carry out these intricate jobs.
I used to wait for the E1 bus at Ealing Broadway station going to school and coming home in the late 80s. I remember the building you have modelled. There was s video rental shop there that I always used to look into. Happy memories... Fantastic work as always. Looking forward to the next instalment!
Another great update !! The "Wimpy burger" sign made me smile as it brought back s lot of sweet childhood memories of when we used to cross over from Ostend ( Belgium) to Dover (UK) in the 1980's for shopping and just because my mom and dad (God bless their souls ) loved it there. A quick snack burger at Wimpy's was an absolute MUST during every trip. Keep up the good work mate, I'm loving every single episode of your story !
As always, the best hour on RUclips.
Wow wow wow , you never seem to dissapoint in regards to attention to detail. Nothing is ever missed and your videos are a pleasure to watch 😊.
Hurrah!! The birth of the hideous station! It's awful - I love it! Great stuff.
Your attention to detail is second to none, yet another brilliant video, well done.
YES! Peak Sunday YT watching, thanks Richard you legend!
Entirely Outstanding as Usual... Can understand what you mean about being a tedious endeavour with some aspects of the build, but that is what sets your layout apart from most, you pay attention to every detail.. Love it.
Absolutely fantastic Richard, I'm in awe of your modelling skills!
Class video Richard, love watching all your stuff :)
Tremendous skill … amazing … many an evening and long night I’ve spent outside Ealing Bdwy aboard a standby Rail Replacement bus awaiting my 5am departure to Paddington. Your rendition of the building there is absolutely excellent and captures perfectly the feeling of the real building. I can only bow to your level of skill. Thank you for sharing your work and process, very interesting with useful information. Best Wishes, Nigel 🙏
Enjoyed the last couple of episodes, watching them whilst building/weathering my own micro layout simultaneously and learning new ways to model 👍🏻
Your videos are always a joy to watch with your attention to detail and tips and tricks.
I think I will open a new wing in the national gallery to house your art. You are the Constable of model railways. You have an eye to detail that is at genius level! Well done , keep. Going, it’s so interesting and fabulous. Thanks for sharing
I always look forward to your videos. Your work is inspirational and I have absorbed a lot over time. Those concrete column and lintel buildings with red brick infill from the late 60s are so dismal to see today. You have captured it beautifully, er, not the building, your work. 😊
Fantastic progress Richard. Great to see that you modified the platform heights, I thought they looked a bit high but put it down to an optical illusion. I can remember when there were two separate stations at Ealing Broadway. One was for the District Line and the other one, over the railway, serviced the GWR and Central Line. You sure are lighting up the part of my memory from a very very long time ago now. Keep up the great work. Roy.
Modelling real buildings and modifying them to “fit” Everard Junction works really well. One hell of a lot of work there Richard. 5 stars as usual from me!
Absolutely stunning piece of art! Always a pleasure to see the progress!
More genius modelling skills. Absolutely enjoyable viewing. Thank you.
Very impressive. Thank you.
Splendid! I love that you start with a real recording of an announcement from Ealing Broadway in the 1980s.
Such a considered approach to these buildings, and the period.
Great episode
Wow. I love the new CITY look of the station.
It is outstanding!
Totally brilliant piece of miniature modelling young Richard 👍
Really does take me back to the late 70’s early 80’s when l worked at the BBC there 🙂
A long video Richard loved it, just turning the video out for us involved lots of work, Thank You. Buildings are amazing, well done. 👏😁
Fabulous modelling of the buildings. Most inspirational. Thank you very much for sharing.
One of your best videos yet, Richard. Interesting, educational and packed with thoughts and ideas. If realism is your goal then you most certainly have 100% achieved it. Keep at it and stay safe. Cheers, Bob
Proper blasts from the past good old radio rentals and and my favourite burger place Wimpy (proper classy as you got a knife and fork) 😆😆😆👍👍👍
"Sha-ZAMMMM" .... that's just a very nifty piece of kit!!! :) Super idea!
Another excellent master class in structure modelling, Richard! I especially appreciate the laying out of your thought processes in the "selective compression" and element choices you have made. Top notch. Cheers from Wisconsin!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. It's certainly a challenge to get the idea in your head onto a layout. There's always compromises and tricky decisions to make along the way.
Brilliant. Scratch building has just gone up a level. I'm afraid my skills aren't up to this so I use pre built building's but this looks brilliant. Cheers for all the updates.
Your opening sequence is superb, really realistic modelling
Your dedication not only to all the work you do but to film and narrate the video is just superb. You are an inspiration to so many of us. Whilst not a railway modeller I have used many of your ideas and tips on my model bus diorama. Thank you.
That thing is incredible!
A wee tip I've found on LED's like this is if you mix a dab of pva nad some pigment and paint it onto the LED you can change the hue of the lights so each room can have a different brightness and tone.
Great video, funky music, so much hard work and patience. Thank you
Every time I watch one of your videos it inspires me to do a bit on my own layout. New station building is epic! Absolutely loving those blinds, never seen that product before.
Simply superb Richard ! 😀😀😀 !
Was in the UK in the late 80's, Wimpy burgers were SO good..
One day I wish to build my own layout, and you hav been my main inspiration for a long while…really good work!
Another excellent vid Richard. With your patience and eye for detail you should be a model enthusiast instructor. Amazing how you manage to find building to model on. Can’t wait for the next vid😊😊
Excellent work from a true master of modelling. When you mentioned the dirty windows it made me think maybe to put a window cleaning cradle hanging down the front with a couple of cleaners in it? Love your videos!
With every vlog I am always amazed with the eye to accuracy you have, very realistic, one thing, you have forgotten pigeons haha
I'll need a lot of Pigeons!
@@EverardJunction Are there any companies that make pigeons or other animals in 00 scale, though?
Simply amazing looking forward to see how you weather the building's do like your little machine for cutting your out thankyou for a brilliant video
Hey man I only caught the last video last night 🤣
Really loved some of the details in this episode. Nicely paced too. It did make me want a Wimpy and there are none anywhere near me in my part of the UK.
Thanks again for your videos. It's perfect, attention to detail escapism for me. ❤️
I’m speechless, wow very impressive modelling here!
Great video as always. Very enjoyable. Thanks Richard.
Absolutely brilliant Richard. The buildings remind me of the area my grandparents lived called Northfield in the Birmingham area that was like this when I was growing up in the 70’s & 80’s.
Keep safe and well
Andy
Outstanding lead-in video bit! Job well done on the entire project. 👍🙂
love your dedication to creating a building you absolutely hate! great job making your version
Nearly an hour of Everard Junction! Christmas has come early 😀
Fantastic work as usual, like everyone else commenting here, I always enjoy seeing the latest update from you, thanks again!
Wow! 😎Looking so good!
I dont see any exterior fire escape stairs....guess all out of sight, lol
Wow, what a fantastic build and great to see the process on how you made it, great work and certainly looks the part in that new station section 👍🏻
Wow. We’ve been following Everard Junction since your previous layout mainly for the most admirable attention to detail, and were quite shocked that you had to start all over again. However, this one now is coming together superbly. As far as we can tell, your detailing has only been lifting up further fantastically, and always gives brilliant ideas. We can only imagine the UK in the 80s, but your layout certainly does provide an excellent insight. Cherio.
Great video as ever Richard, fantastic detailed explanations to how you do bits and boy does the building look the part, the station is starting to become my favourite part of the layout
Keep up the great work as ever and hope you're well
Cheers
James
Wow Richard! You've just gone to another level with this project. What you're making here is both exceptional and inspirational. Good on ya mate :)
Entertaining as usual. Your attention and dedication to detail is second to none. You must rate as one of the most talented modellers on You Tube. Congrats.
You have a perfect narration tone to match the subject matter btw
Excellent work. This is railway modelling at its very best.
Incredible. Keep it up.
Well done on the station building/office block, seeing a Wimpey on the platform certainly takes me back. Looking forward to its completion.
I was surprised to hear that there are still some Wimpeys out there. I thought they had long gone! Must seek one out for a nostalgia trip! (Greetings from a fellow Siviter by the way!)
The Network SouthEast logo on the Cricut Maker.. Nice touch Richard! Joachim
I remember seeing loads of those Ghostbusters 2 movie posters and also Crocodile Dundee 2 posters were everywhere
that cricut is a little hypnotic! lol
Excellent work. Very efficient job.
Amazing as always Richard. I can only dream that one day I'll build something as good as what you have built. Love it mate. - Nicholas.
Fantastic stuff as usual, always a satisfying watch when you post your latest video, thanks for inspiring so many of us
Some truly excellent modelling there Richard. I'm glad that it's not just me then that counts bricks to get the correct sizes/scale...I'm sure I count the bloody things in my sleep! I've had a few people ask me to design and laser cut an office block and I'm sure at some point I will and you have certainly given me some inspiration as what to try and achieve but with so many designs on the go, I doubt if I'll do that any time soon. I love how you have captured parts from around the GWR network and brought them into Everard Junction, it works superbly.
A lot of hours spent there and worth every one of them to achieve the result that you have....brilliant!
Regards
Steve @ Railway Laser Lines
You’re voice at 32:48 is amazing 😂
Also the “noice” at 33:22 is straight up the meme
Amazing piece of work. Looks fantastic.
Thanks for yet another interesting and entertaining video - great progress and the opening credits of the video were very impressive.
Them buildings are absolutely amazing 👏 👌 the lighting sets it off
