  • This tutorial shows how to make a pleasing silver link bracelet with a square link pattern. This is an intermediate level project because of some precise soldering and shaping. For materials, I used 18 (1.02 mm) and 20 (.81 mm) gauge sterling round wire, 14 gauge (1.63 mm) sterling square wire, 22 gauge (.65 mm) sterling sheet, a homemade tube about 3 mm ID, and a very small premade tube just large enough to fit 20 gauge wire through it. As always, I use hard silver sheet solder and a liquid flux.

I think it would be awesome to see a video glamor shot in addition to the photos, so that you can see the light play off of the polished piece. ❤

What a great design!❤ I'm going to use up my scrap wire and scraps of silver sheet. Each square will be the same size, but each one will look different. You come up with so many designs, and it really does inspire me. ❤

This is beautiful! Looking forward to trying it, even if it means succumbing to the sticker shock of having to buy more silver 😂

Chad, I love this chain! I used the mitre vise just like that for the Nat Geo job I had making their logo into pendants for The Bucketlist Family's book tour. Super fun! There's a LOT of mitered pieces in this gorgeous chain. Bravo!! 🌺 🌺 🌺 ps. LOVE that clasp! 👏 👏

This chain is my project today with my 13 year-old brilliant student. This is how you get good at soldering; repetition! Thanks, Chad! I'll send you pics.

Nice . Did you solder the ball onto the end of the clasp or file it? Cheers. Jim

Ok, a question: Do you make more jewlery now (on RUclips) or as a maker/seller historically? I imagine doing this great channel motivates and produces a lot of fresh fun work!

That's a good question:). When I was still teaching public school, I tended to go on creation binges prior to upcoming sales events and produce 20 or 30 pieces in a week or two. I also was teaching silver classes on the side, so made a few pieces with my students while showing them how to do it. With the video schedule I've set myself for RUclips and Patreon, I am generally producing between 3 and 6 finished pieces per week. Occasionally those are interesting experiments, but my finished piece doesn't live up to my standards for sale being my first attempt at something. Mostly though, I end up with jewelry I can put up for sale. Based on the inventory I have now, I would say that my regular production right now far outpaces my previous "binge" production. An added bonus is that doing this channel has totally broken me out of my little box as far as what I feel confident enough to try to make. Because I am pushing my boundaries, my skills have gotten quite a bit better:)
