Fantastic anchor leg by Atascocita. He didn't panic when he got passed on the first straightaway because he knew he had enough left in the tank to unleash a strong kick at the end. Great stuff!

Been watching all these races as they come through my feed. It’s all a track warm up leading to the Olympic Trials in June. More than a month away and I’m already psyched.

Did the woman announcer not realize points are double for relay events? Atascocita was 10 points behind Katy Tompkins and Tompkins was not in the race. That meant Atascocita only needed to finish 5th to pass them up. Duncanville needed to beat Atascocita by a couple of spots; i.e. if Duncanville won the race then they would win the team championship only if Atascocita finished third or worse.

Duncanville's third leg mistake of trying to overtake from the inside, may have cost them. He had a change at getting the lead the way he was running up until that point.

They'll probably never catch Hawthorne 3:07.40 in my lifetime. Done on a dirt track against Roy Martin at the Texas relays in 1985.

Never say never when it comes to Tx. They said that about the 4x1 record. This not Florida or Cali. Tx got all the HS Us records all.

They may not however, Bullis may and if not this year definitely next provided they all stay healthy 3:09 and they are all coming back.

LOL that track was not dirt. But it was in Memorial Stadium. It would fell this year if you could run more that 3 event. Because Watkin can go sub 45 in the 400 imagine him on the anchor. He did the past 2 years at Klien Forrest and they won.

That race was in Austin at UT in the old football stadium where the track and football stadium was combined. This was Texas relays. I was there running for the flyin frogs. Roy could not make up the ground on Henry Thomas. No dirt there. Sorry.

I’m from Los Angeles and for some reason Hawthorne popped into my head as I was watching this race. In 1988 I ran at the day time session of the Arcadia Invitational and went back to the night time session to watch Hawthorne run against South Oak Cliff who had Marlon Cannon and some other fast dudes. That was the best meet I’ve ever been too in my life. Even better than when I went to some Olympic track and field events in 1984.

These Texas teams need to come to the Penn Relays and test themselves against the Jamaican kids. The Texas boys can run fast in 85 degree weather, but what can they do in a 4x400 Championship of America final in a 60 degree drizzle, in a tight stadium with 45,000 crazed track fans, 30,000 of whom are hostile Jamaicans (all clad in green, yellow and black). And, the Jamaican teams (who will constitute 2/3s of the finalists) are not just fast, but also ultra-competitive, and very physical. These Texas teams will never experience a more intense high school race environment. So, raise the money and come to Philly. Let's see what you got.
