    This looks like an axis of a cnc machine. Linear rail plus ball screw plus stepper/servo motor. All those parts are not expensive on their own, but Simucube must have spend a good amount of time and effort designing hardware and software to work in sim racing context hence the price. There is potential for this sort of thing to be much cheaper for sure.

    That grainy feeling is something i was worried about.. using just lmp/lmdh cars i would not benefit from the abs effect, just the adjustability. And i think the adjustability alone isnt worth it for me, especially if the raw feeling is more grainy than a passive pedal (i know thats something that would bother me). Simtag makes a hydraulic pedal set with d-box haptics for abs and tactiles since some time, but there hasnt been any new telemetry implementation since that from what i know. Lets see if the simucube active pedals changes that with its bigger userbase

    I ended up buying the two pedal set - actually just about to unbox them. I think where they'll really shine is consistency --> faster overall, and of course immersion and getting back some of the "seat of the pants" feeling, via your feet. For me, getting back any extra feedback left out from real life is almost priceless. I'm sure there will be people just as fast regardless of the pedals - but then again, can we imagine going back to a world without FFB in the wheel?

    52:40 I’ve tried my friend’s one a few weeks ago and this sand feeling was actually quite annoying for me. Whether it’s the bevel gear design or the software, you no longer get a smooth spring loaded travel. I think this could actually be a deal breaker for some people so keep that in mind

      Could you still feel it on a short travel brake? I really wanted those, but after reading and hearing about that sandy feeling i think i wouldnt like them. I mean we simracers were always looking for the smoothest and most natural feeling pedals, so getting a sandy feeling pedals set for that price sounds like one step forward and two steps backward to me.

    • @프레디khjfreddy
      @프레디khjfreddy Год назад +1

      @@patrickdurka6188 I don’t think it’s related to travel. You could ABSOLUTELY do this without an ingame data output for brake fade.
    Have the force/resistance the pedals apply slowly degrade on a curve. There might not be an option to adjust it but its absolutely possible. You would need a "reset" hotkey if it cant ascertain when a new game is started.

      Rudder pedals are much different than car pedals, and require toe brakes (except for rotors/helis) so this makes no sense. • @dbzcollector9963

      Yeah 2,500$ for a single pedal is kinda ridiculous considering you can get a whole setup with a decent DD wheel for the same price. Even some wheels that are real and not replicas don’t cost that much, I think they’ll drop the price over time or make a cheaper option.

      @@dbzcollector9963 They have to recover all the R&D that's gone into it, it would have taken a crapload of iterations to get to this point; other manufacturers who jump on will have significantly less work cut out for them as they now have a benchmark for what works.
      So I think the price is entirely fair right now. I'm not even thinking about getting them at this stage, but active pedals will certainly come on my radar once we have more options - *and* titles support pedal FFB.
      (Speaking as someone in tech/software engineering, and super happy with his Sprints).

    • @dbzcollector9963
      @dbzcollector9963 Год назад

      @@JSmith73 I know that but there’s already tons of diy designs online that these people probably got a lot of their inspiration from. So this R&D must have not spent that much time, if this were the very first of its kind it would be different. Still the price is ridiculous for a pedal that’s only useful for 1 thing, if it were a full set or even the gas and brake then the price wouldn’t be to bad but for just 1 pedal it’s ridiculous. I’m sure they’ll still sell tho, but I rather wait another year or 2 for other companies to make something lower quality but cheaper price.

  • @grayzedynamics
    @grayzedynamics Год назад

    Great review. As cost and others create replica's the price will come down, the problem with these pedals is that they really bring no value to non-ABS/TC cars. If you race a lot of F1 or quite a few other styles of cars, then you'd essentially be spending money on the software and ease of changes. The average person should get a set of HE Sprints, VRS, or even the new CSL Elite LC V2 pedals. As most of us will not be taking advantage, however, when the sim racing games catch up to the offerings and the cost of these pedals are half the price. Then that brake pedal will be beyond worth the investment. $2500 for 2, although costly, would be worth it, for now, simply outside the mass, but we know as sim racers more than enough people will purchase.

  • @zzmadd
    @zzmadd Год назад +1

    Please do experiment with transducers...maybe, as of today, giving the sims don't output all the data they could about braking, transducers can be enough to convey ABS and teach us to be more dynamic in how we handle braking. Basically they could shorten the time needed to properly act on a brake pedals with some cars.

    I don’t buy the consistency argument. I run optimal sector deltas when i practice and i rarely deviate in a corner more than half a tenth. A lot of the time the speed in a corner depends on how you enter and exit. The braking itself can be duplicated with the cheapest of pedals if you’re used to them

    • @VenturaCocktail
      @VenturaCocktail Год назад

      I think that the consistency comes from the device itself. Passive brake often is made with some kind of elastomer. When these elastomers warm up feeling of the pedal changes. When feeling is software controlled it stays the same corner after corner. Getting used to something is different than consistency IMO.

    This could be so amazing to use as a clutch especially for a training tool for a newbie without having to wear clutches. In theory you could simulate effectively any clutch on any car which would be absolutely wild. The simulation of a clutch bite point is something I have wanted for so long to make the driving experience even more realistic but is something we will have to wait quite a bit longer as the time and effort to create a simulation for each car would be quite intense.
