I separate my syrup into half pint jars, about half full, label and freeze them. That way, I can always pull the next one out and it does not get lost in the back of my fridge.
I always add orange peel in my elderberry syrup too - so good, plus I love the vitamin c boost! I usually add mine once I turn off the heat and let it steep during the cool down time to preserve even more of the goodness. I can’t wait to hear about your hawthorn batch too!
Thank you for sharing this valuable information. I gave my husband this during the pandemic everyday due to he was a medical courier and in and out of hospitals and doctors' offices 5 days a week. After we ran out, he got the mess.
I just discovered your videos and I really like them. You’re great. I just want to be friends with you since you’re so approachable and chill. Keep making awesome herbal knowledge accessible ~ as a fellow herbalist I think we can agree this timeless knowledge needs to be kept alive. ❤
Kaylee have you ever done anything with Hawthorn berries? I extracted syrup/tea from about 4 pounds of Hawthorn berries and I was wondering if you have ever worked with them. I have some Elderberries and I was thinking I could maybe make some Elder/Hawthorn extract? Blessed Days Kaylee and Family...
I add ACV in mine it helps make it shelf stable and getting more good ingredients in to help you feel better… I also juice my elderberries instead of cooking them keeping the fruit “alive”
Kaylee and your sweet Momma, Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and journey! I found your you tube channel a litte over a month ago. Love it!! It resonates so much. Much love to you and your family. I ordered the Mushroom Blend!! Will give it a try! On another note, I am gonna make the Fire Cidar when I can find me some horseradish root. 🙃😊 Again, thank you.
One way to avoid the straining mess, it is to put all the ingredients in a muslin bag and cook it in that. Quick and easy clean up - squeeze the muslin bag and then compost the herbs.
These are the ingredients I add to mine and my family LOVES it. I also add rose hips. The orange gives it a scrumptious flavor and, of course, I add my honey after cool down. The syrup is not only effective, but yummy as well.
I just have to say I love all of your videos, I get pumped whenever I see you posted a new video. But last time I made elderberry syrup I added in some fresh Thyme that I grew. I'm thinking about adding some some fresh white pine needles next time for even more vitamin C.
This year i added autumn Olive's to my elderberry & honey recipe and oh my goodness it turned out soo well. The taste is soi airomactic but over all its definitely delicious. Thank you for sharing your video.
I love using my slow cooker to make elderberry syrup...I feel like I don’t need to babysit it as closely haha...my latest combo is elderberry, goji berry, rosehip, cinnamon and orange peel, delicious!
Love! I have always wondered and I’m hoping you will know. In some local stores you’ll see locally made elderberry syrup that’s clearly been canned. So does that mean it’s killed the medicinal benefit of the honey used in it?
@TheHoneystead can you please please do a video on how to harvest and keep passion flower safe over winter. This is my first year with one and I don’t want to lose it. It’s amazing!!! I’m in Louisiana zone 8b I think don’t have to bad of winters but really want to know how to make sure I don’t lose my butterfly haven🙏🏻
Thank you for making this medicinal tea . 😊😊I have an herbal orange spice tea from Frontier. It has about six plants in it. Elderberries i have also. ❤I remember you've made something like this recently. I ❤ when you're in the kitchen preparing teas ! Enjoy your teas friend😊😊😊, please come back 😊😊meow!
Hi there from NZ. I love how you make everything seem so simple. Just a wee question. All the honey syrup recipes I have seen say they stay good in the fridge for two weeks. Is there a herb added here that extends shelf to three months?
Friends, if you are adding home-made dried orange peel, make sure to source organic produce. Conventionally farmed oranges will have pesticide and fungicide residues that would be concentrated in a dried rind. EPA testing and certification may only analyze the part of a food that is eaten, and it's possible that citrus rind has higher levels than the interior of the fruit. I don't know that for a fact, so I need to check it out. I do know that the labels on the conventionally-produced oranges I got from Costco last week included information about a fungicide application to improve storage. Not good to eat those rinds, for sure! There's a new research report in Frontiers of Toxicology, 01 Oct 2024 on the neurotoxic effects of neonicotinoid pesticides on developing brains. Not to imply that oranges are more or less of an issue than any other produce, but it's a reminder of the importance of buying and producing organic food.
I'm concerned about how to identify Chinese star anise vs Japanese star anise (toxic). It seems that only microscopic/biochemical analysis can tell the difference. How do you make sure you have the correct one?
Love the video! Thank you for the great info. We take an elderberry supplement daily. Is that not good to do? I was hoping it would keep my immune system built up. I have fibro and my immune is compromised. Thank you for the recipe!😊Regina
I noticed your honey bucket, do you have to have a valve on it? I will be picking up 5 gallons and was told to just bring a food grade bucket. Will the honey crystallize using this method? I was thinking of just pouring it into mason jars once I get home.
hello everyone, does anyone know what the shelf life of this syrup is? would love to try this recipe but don't want to make too much and be wasteful. thank you all

I have the European dried elderberries. I didn't know the American was better when I had gotten them a while back. Can I still use them?
Messy magic medicine makers are the BEST 😊
I add a little marshmallow leaf and lemon thyme to a cough/cold syrup.
I need a kitchen like that!
Great video! I have never made this, but I will now after finding this recipe.🥰 Thank you
I separate my syrup into half pint jars, about half full, label and freeze them. That way, I can always pull the next one out and it does not get lost in the back of my fridge.
I'm going to try that this time, thanks!

Great idea!
Wonderful! Any chance you can do a video on making cough drops…especially with honey? 😁
Ohh I should do that!
Great minds think alike. I've had elderberries on the woodstove since early morning.
Oh I bet your home smells dreamy!
Thank you for sharing this valuable information. I gave my husband this during the pandemic everyday due to he was a medical courier and in and out of hospitals and doctors' offices 5 days a week. After we ran out, he got the mess.
It's definitely a wonderful herb!!

I will definitey add the orange peel on my next batch. Thanks you.
Kaylee how beautifully simple you made it for beginners ❤ THANK you!!

Acv is not good like it used to be...
@@Kat-I-am3333 try making your own…makes a huge difference
You will love it. I'd use Orange Peel in mine every time I make it.
It's so good!
My goodness . I was going to make elderberry syrup today. I think I'll try your recipe. It just slightly different than mine.

We call the extra that falls in the mixing bowl "love". We incorporate a lot of love in our recipes. hah
One way to avoid the straining mess, it is to put all the ingredients in a muslin bag and cook it in that. Quick and easy clean up - squeeze the muslin bag and then compost the herbs.
I made mine a bit ago. I take it a couple times a week because I’m around little kids that are getting sick this time of year. ❤
These are the ingredients I add to mine and my family LOVES it. I also add rose hips. The orange gives it a scrumptious flavor and, of course, I add my honey after cool down. The syrup is not only effective, but yummy as well.
Yay thank you for this!! I’ve been drying elderberries all season bc I am disabled and can’t stand long enough to use fresh. This looks amazing ❤❤❤❤
I just have to say I love all of your videos, I get pumped whenever I see you posted a new video. But last time I made elderberry syrup I added in some fresh Thyme that I grew. I'm thinking about adding some some fresh white pine needles next time for even more vitamin C.
Ohh yum!!!
I add in hibiscus flowers as well as the rose hips. It tastes so good.
I LOVE HONEYSTEAD.
Always very much appreciated 🐝🤍🐝
❤Filling tea bags while watching and remembered that I have elderberry jam in the refrigerator! 😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m with ya! Love a warm, honey-sweetened syrup with warm spices. I need to get on this too!
This year i added autumn Olive's to my elderberry & honey recipe and oh my goodness it turned out soo well. The taste is soi airomactic but over all its definitely delicious. Thank you for sharing your video.
Thank you I’ll be making this right smart like as well ❤
❤
Thanks for sharing the orange peels. I like to add rose hips. Take care

Wondering too. 🧐
Thanks! I tried making syrup last year, mostly same ingredients but without a good recipe and it was AWFUL haha. Cant wait to try again.
Hi Kaylee, can you share how to figure out the expiration of an herb? How long they last? etc
I strain through cheesecloth, freeze the spoils, when I have enough I FREEZE DRY the spoils, powder it to make supplements in pill form.
The seeds are the only thing that would make me a little nervous to powder!
Nice. Thank you for sharing.
I made this recipe minus the star anise and added hibiscus and rose hips.

Hi there from NZ. I love how you make everything seem so simple. Just a wee question. All the honey syrup recipes I have seen say they stay good in the fridge for two weeks. Is there a herb added here that extends shelf to three months?
Just curious could you dry the leftover herb and use it for a tea?

For mine, I source it! Honestly that's the best way for me personally
Love your channel which herbal school did you got to ? Right now I’m doing the online Homegrown school of botanical medicine and I love it.
I went to a physical school, but I am reviewing the homegrown school so I can share with others as well! So far it's been a good one!
I’m doing the same school and I think it’s great too.
Love this! Can I use agave instead of honey. I am vegan and do not consume honey.
Love the video! Thank you for the great info. We take an elderberry supplement daily. Is that not good to do? I was hoping it would keep my immune system built up. I have fibro and my immune is compromised. Thank you for the recipe!😊Regina
🫐🫐🫐 made with love, 😉🌹 love is the key, always 💞
Thank you. Perhaps dried cranberries (or fresh) to the syrup.
Great idea!
how do you keep honey from settling while in storage?
Shake it up for sure!
I put rose hips and hibiscus in my elderberry syrup.
Can you store this in clear mason jars? And if so, how long will it keep?
Do you have a video on how to make the elderberry gummies for kids? Or even like a "melatonin" one?
I have elderberry syrup in the cabinet. I had no idea it was used for colds
I noticed your honey bucket, do you have to have a valve on it? I will be picking up 5 gallons and was told to just bring a food grade bucket. Will the honey crystallize using this method? I was thinking of just pouring it into mason jars once I get home.
It does, you can make them or buy them already. If it's cold, it will crystallize!
Is the elderberry at mountain rose herbs ok to use.
Absolutely!
How is the herbal oil machine working?
If you were using fresh/frozen elderberry is how much would you use in place of 3/4 cup dried?
Would you know of alternative for blood pressure?
what size mason jars are these?
Do you ever use Arrowood Berries?
What ingredient is it that limits shelf life... in the fridge.. to 3 months? Is there a way to make it last longer through the winter?
Do you peel your ginger before you dry it?
I don't :)
Can you use a crockpot on low or warm?
Yes!!
Is it ok to add 1/2 of fresh lemon juice?
hello everyone, does anyone know what the shelf life of this syrup is? would love to try this recipe but don't want to make too much and be wasteful. thank you all
Paying Guests facilities yours N if have wonderful.
Do you offer a herbalist course?
Could you use this and make gummy with it for when you are traveling?
put the chopstick into the bottle and hold the spout close to it. That may work better for you.
Your recipe in the comment doesn't list water. How much?
3 cups. I watched it again 😊
Don’t want to scroll.
Is every measure the same if you don’t use dried?
Love your sink but won’t the berry stain it!? lol.
Neighborhood
That glass cookware is toxic/not healthy
Your chopstick should point down. The liquid will run down it into your jar.
You have to be cautious where you purchase your orange for peel.....organic doesnt mean its free from Apeel.....which is shady as all F
I also add rose hips to mine 🌹 🥄🤧
Love!
❤
