- In today's video i go over GCN's video about everything that's wrong with god of war 2018 and i dissect his points and sin them. Sometimes he does have some good points which get credit for being good.
His video and THIS VIDEO HERE are both for fun. Nothing against the guy and what he does. I'm a huge fan of him. So no hate here.I just felt like doing this video idk :D

In the lost pages it's mentioned that Odin killed groa and took all of her knowledge and before that happened groa saw a vision about kratos and atreus at the center of ragnarok and when Odin went to Jotunheim he stole their knowledge and it's mentioned that he saw a ghostly ash white God traveling with a child to jotunheim , so he knew about the whole journey and everything Odin didn't do in Gow 4 was part of his plan as he already knew about it
Even in the game atreus says how did Odin know we were going to Jotunheim before we did and mimir said that's not important , what's important is that he was right
And that's the reason for everything Odin didn't do in Gow 4 , he is a man with a plan : )

About the apple
Fun fact: in Greece it was common practice to toss an apple at someone and if they were to catch it ment you are reciprocating feelings for them almost like a marriage proposal. That may be why kratos cut the apple basically rejecting the proposal.

37:28 actually in ancient grecce. Throwing an apple to someone and then catching it, actually means that you are confesing your love to them hence why kratos sliced the apple.
I would say for me personally, the only things that I despise from GOW 4 are:
1) the overly complicated rpg mechanics (I'm not saying to remove them I just want them to be simpler as they can be very unfair and immersion-breaking at times)
2) The lack of a manual jump button
(This one for me is not that big of a deal because combat is still awesome, but jumping'd be cool)
Aside from these complaints, the game seems to be pretty fucking good and Ragnarok will be even better!
and I really don't like the semi-open world, cause it limits what's this game can offer, look at the older gow games, they looked much bigger and they have gigantic areas like atlas, pandoras temple, atlantis. those areas felt bigger and more beautiful in the older games cuz of their linear aspects, without talking about the gorgeous backrounds like the war in the city wjile you fight the colossus, gow 3 gods vs titans backrounds and even gow 1 had that when you meet ares in the first time fighting the athena army. gow4 giving the players the abilitie to go where ever they want and giving them the freedom to explore really mad the game feel small, and lacking the amazing backrounds and the feeling that you went in a long voyage like gow 2, and 1 and even ghost of sparta. and I knew that this is caused by the RPG mechanics.
Lack of a manual jump button was infuriating for me. And this was the first GOW I played.

About mistletoe, it's kinda mythology legend theme. In legends Freya did cast invunerable spell on baldur, but mistletoe was so rare that everyone thinked that it does not exist anymore in any of nine realms so that's why she didnt cast spell on this. Of course in game its not shown or said but still, cool detail!)
She talked to all plants of every realm to not harm baldur, but forgot mistletoe.
44:09 i think the reason kratos can survive the cold is the same reason he got the blades of chaos. It wasn't just to kill ice enemies in helheim but to actually keep kratos alive and not freeze to death in helheim. The blades are foreign magic after all
Atreus is revealed to be loki and loki is an ice giant so that can be the reason atreus doesn't freeze to death in helheim
Mimir is basically dead and reincarnated so i dont think the cold can affect him
And baldur cant feel pain or be killed so he isn't even bothered by the cold
I personally think that the armor sets was the only thing wrong with the game they made kratos look like big chunges

Changing kratos's voice actor was a good decision but changing his voice actor for the helheim scene was not a good idea
Actually Kratos denied the apple because in ancient Greece many would toss an apple to someone to express their love and interest in them, considering Kratos just lost his wife and old habits die hard, he denied the apple because he's definitely not interested.

Freya's mark helped to keep their location concealed so neither Odin nor Thor's son's could find them. We see Thor's son's trail their destruction and only find them on accident before their battle.

I feel like the main problem with lightning arrows is that despite a main theme of the game being about how kratos is healing from being a monster, choosing to use lightning arrows makes me feel like more of a monster than anything in the greek games

The thing about the apple is a hidden detail. In greece throwing an apple at somebody is a sigh of love and when sindri threw tha apple kratos sliced it because he didn't feel anything for the dwarf at that time
For the faye prophecy I personally interpret it as not a prediction of the future, but as a record of the past.

When it comes to the Loki reveal, as someone who knows a decent bit of Norse Mythology, it still surprised me quite a bit, because its not really what I came to expect because of how close Atreus is to us. i was wondering where Loki was in the myths, but I had assumed that perhaps he was already captured / dead as Odin seemed to be portrayed as more evil and ruthless, so instead of capturing his kids ( Hel, Fenrir and Jorm ), he just killed him instead, or captured him. Its also just a surprising reveal considering how close Atreus is to us, so despite the clues, its surprising, but the clues make it understandable, it instantly clicked into my head and the other seeds like Jorm being sent back in time fixing the " Atreus giving birth to a giant snake " and so on.
When was it said that Jorm was fixing that? It either went by my head, or I never found it.

Its very confusing but imagine earth beeing not planet sized but a huge round land that has its own realities in different countries

Tbh I think everything about god of war 4 is great, just needs refinement around the edges, I love the menu and how simple it is, although most people don’t like the rpg mechanics of there being too many armor sets etc, I’m totally fine with it, it adds variety, but one thing I do hate is the armors that cover all of kratos’ chest 😂 I have Valkyrie armor + but I use deadly mist armor because it looks so much better, but I like the runic attacks and the enchantments and the talismans a lot, really adds variety and then in the endgame you can become insanely op if you have the best enchantments and armor etc, it’s a fun mechanic and adds replay-ability imo, and makes new game + rewarding.
Technically kratos was born a god cause his father was zeus then after he killed Aries he became a full god

In the sin 42:36, it's actually more of a sin if you take a look at the god of war 1 and 2 novels. i believe it's said that the blades are in the armory of Ares thrown room. But Kratos leaves them there cause A- the blades of Athena at the time were more powerful than the blades of chaos and B- since it brings back bad memories (for obvious reasons) he leaves them there. Before someone says the books aren't cannon, it's been stated multiple times that it's secondary canon. This means that some portions are cannons unless contradicts the games that make it non canon. And it's near the end of i believe the first book where the game originally ends. Which added more and did not contradict the ending of the first for the most part.

The reason that Mimir is hesitant that Kratos, or even Thor could get through that ice is because that isn't just any regular ice. That ice was made from the breath of Thamur which he did right before he died against Thor, this ice is powerful enough that it spread around the entirety of Midgard.

While you didn't say anything wrong here as this is the lore explanation as to why has the Blades of Chaos, it still leads me to ask as to why it took them so long to follow Kratos? Like even if we take the prequal comic in mind and accept that they came back to him not long after the destruction of Greece, there were still multiple years in between Gow 1 and the end of GoW 3 so why did it take the blades YEARS to come back to him? Was it that when it's mentioned how the blades follow him "wherever he goes" that it specifically refers to when he goes to different mythologies? Potentially, but it's never specifically stated anywhere which makes me annoyed by it.

Honestly I feel like this twist would be even better for people who know about Norse mythology, as it would be like putting together pieces for a puzzle that not everyone picked up on; before the final piece gets put together with Atreus mentioning that he was Loki. Also God of War doesn't exactly have a track record (although I can't be 100% sure either, as I also wasn't a very big norse mythology/mythology in general fan before I got into GoW lol)

I don't think Atreus, illness was related to him thinking he was 100% mortal. Freya said it was his , nature , which is also Krato's true nature , that was killing the boy which I have reason to believe is related to His Spartan rage flames. You see the flames of Spartan rage coming out of Atreus and he falls the second after that..we find he is ill and dying at Freya's house and what is that she asks Krato's to bring her The heart of Gate keeper and if you look at heart of Gate keeper it has winds of Hel the coolest thing. That literally is counter i think a cool counter to the flame of Spartan rage inside Atreus. Also a quick side theory Greek gods were infected by that black world's all evils and Kratos was infected by Rage what if Spartan Rage is just that, that's why Kratos doesn't like to use it anymore.

However... keeping in mind how journalists lost their shit when games displayed dead children (even though there was no sick murder involved) makes it easy to understand why the devs tried to harm Atreus as little as possible. Imagine the dark elves would just impale him or throw him off a cliff to his death. Even if the game ends after that and you have to load a save anyway this would end in drama.
Personally, I like the game being called “God of War” again. This is because it’s a new beginning for the series as Kratos says in the E3 trailer which is also the description of the game when you hover over it on the ps dashboard. Also, I don’t think there being a 4 or a IV in the title would have been good looking. I feel that the God of War title without the numbers, in this scenario, looks a lot better.

I won't lie, the only thing I really don't like about the video is that both of you guys, while you make some good, and sometimes weird points admittedly, never really talk about how many time constraints were caused by how much they had to create. They never got to be as creative as they would have liked to be, and Hell, even in Hel, you were SUPPOSED to fight the bird, but again, time constraints, so, Troll fight. That goes for every enemy in the game being similar, and marginally the same. It's a nitpick of mine, and I'm probably being too nitpicky, but I feel like some research should be done for those reasons to be fully realized, and to make sense as to why it happens. Even the documentary shared that Cory and the team were in complete chaos with how stressful it was to finish the game because they took a year and a half, if not longer just to make the E3 demo they made, and now had to finish the game within a timeframe, while also reasoning with Sony to delay the game longer to buy as much time as they could, and a lot of the sins I've noticed, while not a majority of them, are just conflicting to me because of the amount of times I could say "Time constraints". But the same can't be said for some things like why T.C Carson couldn't return, as, apparently, he was too short to fit the motion capture, but at the same time, you did mention he wasn't told about this whole thing, but he, indeed, was. Just a lot of things I could think about after having seen, and even researched while watching this video, and my time just knowing God of War in general making me curious to know everything I can about Kratos and his stories, and the development process the games took to perfect what they could, and the conditions that were given because of everything that went down.
Also, just to add, yes, he wasn't born a God, but he was also making sure he doesn't tell Atreus everything about his past life so that way he is spared even knowing about what Kratos did, or ever thinking about who he was, or the road he took because of it. So, his way of making sure it's unknown is by saying "I was born a God", not "I was made into a God", because Atreus would question why he was made into a God, and it would lead to various things Kratos would have to worry about with his past of being the Ghost of Sparta.
