The issue with most players is they don't think (talking below diamond 3 or even at diamond level) about their plan and what to do in certain situations.I've been away from the game for couple of years and I starter playing again 2 weeks ago.The first week I haven't play a single game.Just watching vods and replays,studying the new meta,how everything works.After this I went on vs AI games just to practice all possible build orders vs all races (I play terran btw) and then I start playing ladder.Which got me into D3 with 5 games.Understanding the game will help you a lot more than ''Oh I'm gonna rush this guy with 7 gate charge/lots,if it works,it works''. What works for me is I play macro like 95% of my games.3CC openings with 2 bays starting all my upgrades,transition into 3,5,8 racks (starting from 1/1/1 most of the games,if playing bio) and then starting to harras denying his 3rd base,etc.Always try to attack at 2 different places at the same time,do multiple drops.Don't focus all your energy on microing (this will come with the more practice),just playing the perfect macro game will get you to D2/D1 and above,because players below that level don't even follow the right build orders,so that makes you ahead just with defending and macroing.
Winter I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your content. You're a very witty caster and also a great teacher for people like me who learn best through humiliation. :D I just recently came back to SC2 after not playing for 9 years and even though I'm Gold it's still as fun as I remember it. Keep up the awesome work.
52:41 After 3 BC's jump into his mineral line, it literally takes him 30 seconds to use his reactor starport to start building vikings. 30 seconds of "ill just chase them around with my marines" 20 of those seconds is marines running into a wall because they can't fly. it took 20 seconds of "my marines can't run up this wall" to think to build vikings.
He tabbed over the tech labbed factory that makes terrans 2 best answers to BCs 97 times after scouting the starports, to the time that the BCs were dead. 2 Cyclones kill them almost without any micro at all, especially when the bcs dont have yamato and the clones have MFA. alternatively, if you like a much shorter engagement, 3 widow memes magically evaporate them instantaneously. you can almost burrow them AFTER the jump intiates and the BCs wont be able to escape the lock ons after completing the jump. Zero of either unit was actually built. Either answer OR six vikings cleaned it up and won the game with 5 marines without a second thought.
Honestly, any amount of literally any terran unit that can shoot up or print its own turrets/turn off the BCs would have saved him a great deal of heartache here. Even 20 more marines.
The best tip I can give my low level brothers is that shift click attack on SCV when they are just building first rax works all the way up to diamond. Don’t stop doing it. But be smart, get in kill get out. Boom you’re ahead. if you play Terran yourself just know you’re breaking a code of honor, but you never had any to begin with, so why start now.
I always send out my dickhead drone to delay that first barracks. You always get first hit and if you are paying attention you can first hit the SCV they send to defend the builder if they do, either way you usually get 1 free worker kill maybe 2
Winter, if you are open to suggestions, I humbly propose: Cast Wars Imagine WinterStarcraft and LowkoTV merging into a "Kenny vs Spenny"esque Starcraft 2 series of challenges of Bo5`s, intense micro battles, Arcade, Viewer vs Viewer or even TD - if you will - fighting for glory or humiliation. You might think we don't come to you to learn, but I enjoy watching random players despite being a Zerg player because I personally think you can't get better if you don't know the strengths and weaknesses of all the races.
You know something Winter. I rather like seeing you actually try. I know you've drowned in pools before, but, I think if you decided to settle down with a nice Terran(or zerg because let's be real Protoss can't win) that you could take at least a small tournament or 2. I would watch that. Maybe you could do what Lythero does and get someone else to commentate for you during practice so you can focus more. It seems to work out pretty well for him and he's ANYTHING but a pro. But he's won tournaments.
i used to play on 16,000 dpi but i scaled it down because my mouse began to malfunction (probably because it became that much more sensitive to dirt). fun fact: dpi is not necessarily a measure of your input sensitivity. you can scale your sensitivity down while maintaining a high dpi and then u get the fine precision of a high dpi while playing on the sensitivity of ur liking (in reality u have to clean ur mouse way too much)
I have zero co-ordination in my fingers and have found using Grid Hotkeys much easier than default or any custom. Gone from Plat zerg to Random Diamond in a season after learning it. It helps me but it's not for everyone

I just love all the races equally but yeah I agree it hurts my mmr but I’m better and guessing why the opponent is doing too and I never say one race is op
old school gamers didn't have the option to raise or lower DPI so they used virtual dpi. if you look at most games the multiplier only goes to maybe x3 or 5. go on counter strike source and it goes way up. depending on what server you played on some people were surgical with the m7 shotgun since there was 1 pellet that always hits the same spot so on a 720 monitor that was basically 1 pixel if you aimed spawn to spawn on iceworld. there was a handful of people who played on a really high multiplier and basically used the m7 as a sniper rifle walking around doing 360's like an aimbot xD. but yeah starcraft is pretty basic, use 800 and pretend dpi doesn't exist lol, comfort over speed. I still think lan is better then ladder for practice.
I fucking found Lowko before WinterSC, so I went off of his “great video” of how to setup hot keys, and the great “benefit” of playing with Grid “like not being able to effectively play Brood War anymore without rebinding every freaking hot key. Unfortunately for me, I learned how to play SC2 this way. Do ANY pro’s use grid? I’ve thought about switching back, but I imagine it would be much like learning to throw with your left hand. That being said, I don’t struggle with grid. It’s easy, it’s comfortable. I switched the SAA to ~ (so I can use F1 for camera location 1) and idle workers to H.

G"" for denying him his win. played agaisnt him a second time and he tried the same shit and failed and just rage quit. I had like six turrets or more around my base covering all corners.
