It’s actually possible to add SMAS to the SNES mini by using hakchi (You’d have to do it correctly and carefully or else it won’t work. Do this at your own risk).

SMB3 remake has changed the graphic style quite substantially for the worst though. Especially for the caves which all use generic dirt textures instead of the original funky designs. Even ice caves turned into dirt caves.

Super Mario Bros 3 needs to get updated sprites.
Nintendo only took the NES sprite and just add it more color, but they could recreate the sprites A LOT better, for example the infamous Hotel Mario had the best and most detailed 2D Mario sprite.

A lot of people might have only grown up with the All Stars version.
I grew up with both, but I have a lot of memories tied to being at my grandma’s house playing All Stars with my cousin, so All Stars is a bit more personal and nostalgic to me, although I love the NES versions almost equally.

I think out of all the games offered in the All Stars collection this is probably the one that felt like it had the less time put into it. The original Super Mario game is such a minimalist game that I think it really needed more then just a new coat of paint - they should have given each world a unique theme other then the standard overworld, even if it was just cosmetic. As it is, the game only really has 4 different themes that makes basically every level look identical to one another.
Also, would have been nice if they could have incorporated that iconic cracked brick ground tile somewhere.

Mario Bros.

5 lives at start instead of 3.
Number of lives is now recoded to stop at 128, eliminating the unintended Game Over after death; in Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (known in Japan as Super Mario Bros. 2) the lives counter integer overflow problem in the NES (FDS) release also affected the 100,000 points award per life in 8-4 and D-4 (not in SMAS, since your current lives are saved before going to World 9-1 or A-1), since the specific routine checks the lives counter to see if the number of lives presently in the RAM are between 1 and 128 ($00 to $7F) and, if not, to skip this part.
Mario's bounce rate against enemies is fixed, so he can (for example) continuously step on Koopa Troopas against stairs for 1-UPs without falling off; the original bounce rate in the NES original was a huge issue for the Vs. Super Mario Bros. arcade game, because in some areas (some later to appear in The Lost Levels) there are wide pits that you have to use a flying Koopa Paratroopa to get across (this was fixed in The Lost Levels, which not only fixed the standard bounce rate but also added a new one specifically for jumping on any flying Koopa Paratroopas).

    • @graysonwells21
      @graysonwells21 Год назад +2

You must be watching the video at 30fps. Turn it up to 60fps in the video settings so you can see Mario flashing after taking the hit.
The reason why he turns “invisible” is because when hit, Mario flashes every other frame, and since the game runs at 60 frames 30 of them is of Mario off screen. When you play the video at 30fps you only see every other frame, meaning you will only see the frames where Mario is missing. Hope that cleared up the situation.

SNES was generally considered a straight upgrade.NES had hardware limitations and the way the console, controllers, and cartridges were built meant that unless you maintained and cleaned all your connector pins and were always super gentle, the system would start having issues after about 40 years. It’s surely a reliable piece of tech, but age catches up to anything eventually.
The only reason to play the NES version is for the novelty, or if you just REALLY enjoy the limited sound abilities or graphics of back when video games were pretty new. (Or if you just happen to be so poor, that you weren’t able to afford any of the next generations of consoles all the way up to 2021.)
Nearly all of the wonderful NES titles were ported over to SNES or newer Nintendo consoles and emulators, and either work to preserve the qualities of the original or greatly enhance the game.
Not to knock the NES: it’s a timeless classic, and without it video games wouldn’t be where they are. But it’s simply outmatched by the stuff available today. Those that still cling to their NES’s are probably saving them as collectible antiques, or for the nostalgia value of playing a video game as it was first played by generations long, long ago.

The glitches made the speedruns fun to watch, as not only are they fun to see but also they make the run pretty small overall (you being able to finish the game in under 5 minutes). Prefer the 8-bit music. The sounds are cooler, especially the beatbox-style "drums". Plus they changed the rhythm at the end of the first part of the classic melody on the SNES for some strange reason. Makes it less syncopated and funky.

So you still couldn't go backwards on the SNES? That's stupid. :(

Well I prefer nes version over snes... I know snes has imrpoved graphical quality better but it removes the uniqueness of nes version.. Especially on 6-3
In lost levels... It even removes more
