  • In this video I show you a basic tutorial on how to undercoat your car with Fluid Film. Fluid film is a lanolin based rust and corrosion preventative. I used Fluid Film's professional spray gun it comes with 3 1qt bottles, 2 different hose extensions, and the gun itself. You will need an air compressor to use the gun. Any compressor over 10 gallons will run this gun. I use about 1qt to about 1.5qts of Fluid Film per vehicle depending on the size of the vehicle and the amount sprayed. The vehicle that I am spraying in the video is brand new with about 150 miles on it. I plan on giving yearly updates about the condition of the vehicle before an application every year. Fluid Film cleans up with water and does not harm most rubber like waste oil. Fluid Film is environmentally friendly and biodegradable. Here are links to a couple types of Fluid Film and a couple of spray guns if you choose the liquid version. Thanks for watching.

    Best to put on in late fall for here where I live in Altantic Canada. 3 years can rust out a rocker pannel on New cars. We drill the holes in and shot the rust coat inside any place we think will rust. It Makes a HUGE difference and better then Rust check. We also see RAW salt being put on our roads. Because we get a lot of Ice storms. This stuff has saved many of my cars over the past 30 years. Spray it on. Drive on a dirty dusty road. It will not wash off so easily esp in once the temp is below 5 degree C. 40 f.

    I think I have watched every tutorial on applying Fluid Film and must say you have the best one. You are articulate/knowledgeable, which is enhanced by great quality video. I don't have a lift, so I find doing it on a grass surface makes moving around a lot easier + less messy on overspray too, as does using ramps for better access. I have a few things I do which seem to help, like using a heater to get FF to a viscosity that makes spraying move effective, especially on a cool fall day. Other things I do, like using my drill with attachment to mix it well and using a light is a must have if you don't use a lift.
    P.S. You have a new subscriber.

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  7 лет назад +5

      Spraying in the grass is a good idea. The only downside is not being able to use a creeper. I put plastic down only because I don't want to wash out the bay after every car I coat. I will keep your heater idea in mind. I still have a few people that want vehicles coated before winter and it is beginning to get rather cold out in my currently still un-uninsulated shop.
      Thanks for the complements and thanks for subscribing.. When you have a lift it makes getting good shots that much easier.

      I don't know if it's my age or my trucks, but I'm finding it harder to fit under my truck when changing my oil and even with the ramps, I have just enough room to spray my frame, so a creeper couldn't be used. I wish my garbage was as large as yours, especially in the the colder months.

    Thank you, for the great video, I recently bought used 2005 Toyota Sequoia with 130k, which already has some rust underneath. The frame and lower control arms was replaced new under Toyota recall because of rusting issue. I would consider using the Fluid film to protect the new frame. Question for other areas that have rust, like the rear axle quit rusty and some rust under body panels would you suggest using Fluid film on the rusted area or another product to prevent more rust. Do I have to scrap off the rust first? Would appreciate any advice.

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  5 лет назад +4

      If you scrape off any loose rust it will work better. If the vehicle has a lot of scaley rust the FF will flake off with the scale. Just hit any scale with a stiff wire brush and coat it with FF.

      1) if it has existing surface rust you may need to coat it again before winter. The rust is porous and the products will soak into that rust like paint on fresh drywall. Use the product of your choice, I would just pick one and run with it.
      2) you can't hurt much on the engine. There's no need to spray rubber or plastic parts. I open the hood, hit the top of the frame on each side of the engine, and spray inside the front edge of the hood.

      It was never developed or marketed by the automotive industry. This is right off the Fluid Film website:
      When the U.S. Navy needed to conquer the costs and delays of battling rust and corrosion in the ballast tanks of its thousands of combat and support vessels in World War II, an innovative West Coast chemist formulated a powerful weapon based on an unlikely ingredient: lanolin (wool wax).

    Could you use that Fluid Film kit with that little air Compressor you had in your other video?
    Also when you were using the Fluid Film gun .....did you use a regulator? what setting did you have it on?

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  6 лет назад +2

      You could use the little 3 gallon compressor but, the issue is how much time do you want to wait for the pressure to build back up? With something that small you will spend more time waiting for air than you will spraying. Like the lugnut demonstration from the other video. Personally I wouldn't use anything smaller than 10 or 15 gallons.
      In this video I was using my 26 gallon Quincy set at about 40 or 50 psi. The pressure will vary between 40 and 60 because the viscosity of Fluid Film changes so much with temperature.
