That dirt bag really enjoyed crossing this witness! Interrogation payback was his focus. The witness held his ground!!
Thank you court tv for covering this trial.
P
That detective who was with the FBI is well trained at testifying. He knows what he's doing. For people like brooks he knows how to chew them up and spit them out in a heartbeat!🔥
@Michlle_bey that was a typing error. I heard he is a detective who had the FBI present. That detective was on point.
I liked how the detective refused to play along with Brooks third person delusion.
Det. Carpenter is brilliant. His disdain for the murderer is palpable. You have my greatest respect sir!!
I hear you BUT..... While anyone who has to deal with this coward would have some sort of disdain for him... The detectives who conducted the interrogation were horrible. Barely pressed him even on subjects they KNEW he was lying about.
Yeah it was class I've saw most this just going bk over glad he is never getting out guilty all 76 charges feel for family's victims this guy is monster
Would it be fair to say that it makes absolutely no sense for this idiot to blurt out the word "grounds!" whenever the state makes an objection?
@Sand Castle What do YOU know about conducting an interview of a suspect?? I spent 30 years as an LEO and these guys did an awesome job!!!!
He seems incredibly disgusted
2 hours questioning and ZERO truth in his favour. This must be unofficial court record
As horrible as this man is there’s still some really comedic moments here.
Brooks: “strike that last answer”
Judge: “no”
"CAN I FINISH?"
Best line of whole trial.
With a little finger point. I loved that. Detective Carpenter was one of my favorite witnesses, too.
No, it is not.
He did check him nice and firmly.
No that "you" "who do you mean by you" and then the response of "whatever your name is"
Also, "The suspect was YOU: Darrell Brooks."
Most of his cross-examination questions are him trying to figure out how the detectives outsmarted him during the interrogation.

Oh, Brooksy...You have no idea how much your questioning is helping the prosecution. You are their best witness.
He’s asking these questions with absolutely no idea what he’s trying to prove. This entire cross examination is pointless. Who cares if the department was short staffed? Who cares what short staffed means? Who cares how the interrogation was recorded? Who gives a 💩 if the FBI was present or not? Who cares what room it took part in? Who cares what department they took you to? 2 hours wasted on absolutely NOTHING. I’m sure this did not go over well with the jury. Then the judge goes a little further by saying while incarcerated it’s your 14th. DB then goes on to ask legal advice that she can’t answer. lol
His interpretation of the law is hilarious 😂😂 the judge literally said that too. I think she said just because the 5th amendment was exercised doesn’t mean the recording on its own had to stop. Yes most definitely the absolute worst display of evil that I have ever witnessed from any one individual.
I am a retired English Teacher, Every time Brooks talks I keep thinking his English teacher truly failed him.

They learn this at home.
By the time they go to school their poor English is already ingrained.
Cannot blame that on Teachers!
I knew I would see racist replies
Nah, he just failed himself.
I don't think his English teacher failed him. I think he was a narcissistic child that thought he knew everything, and didn't listen.
By far Detective Carpenter was the greatest witness in the case and so cool the way he kept referring to Brooks by his name or saying “it was YOU, Darryll Brooks”. Brooks clearly hated him for doing that despite Brooks’ continued claims that he was the “alleged” suspect or “detainee”. Love this guy!! Bravo my brother!!
Don't forget Brooks is really pissed off at this point bc during the interview, he thought Carpenter was his buddy. Brooks kept calling him "Carpe" and made multiple references to him being cool with him and being honest, etc. Brooks knew he was outsmarted, and a narcissist thinks he can outsmart anyone. Brooks was trying to act like a professional when "Carpe" was around but a total bumblefuck when he wasn't
To be fair, he was one of 5 L.E.O.s (law enforcement officers) that took no BS off of DB (Douche bag/Darrell Brooks) but i second the motion of your sentiment. And I loved when DB tried to create and steer the narrative that he was, in fact, representative of the accused and not the defendant, himself, and those officers shot that down, he'd get salty and begin to ask even more stupider questions trying to regain control of the narrative. Like with Offcr. Bryce, he asked him what info did he learn about the suspect that was involved in the domestic dispute that day. Offcr. Bryce asked him to clarify if he meant now or back then on the day of. DB didn't clarify so Bryce said I learned x,y,z about "YOU". To which Brooks asked the stupid question of "who's "YOU" ". Bryce stared him down and replied, "You. Darrell Brooks. You were the suspect." And DB asked them how did he know that at the time and Bryce said I didn't but you asked me what I learned about the suspect during the investigation, this investigation took a while and during the course of it, it was determined that YOU were the suspect. Jackass, here eventually ends up asking him basically, if everyone is innocent until proven guilty how can you say the name that you keep saying? Like somehow if you commit a crime you have to be found guilty of it for anyone to learn your name. Bryce was me and my wife's favorite although he and Carpenter were neck and neck at the top of our list. Bryce inched out the W, bcz he shot at Brooks and said in front of the court, on the record, and in front of the world. "I was trying to shoot YOU!" DB tried to separate himself from being the driver and murderer that day again and adds "you tried to shoot what you could see", to which Bryce says definitively again, "I was trying to shoot YOU!"😂😂😂. So out of the handful of l.e.os that testified in the likeness, boldly, and truthfully. He was the best in our eyes. But Carpenter was a delight to watch nonetheless. Especially, when DB started to cut him off and he immediately stopped, looked at DB, and cut HIM off with can I finish and before DB could answer or apologize or anything, Carpenter gets back to what he was saying. Almost like him saying "Can I finish?" was a rhetorical question, I'm GOING to finish, and you're gonna shut tf up while I do so. THEN.. I'll allow you to "axe" me your next stupid question. Lmfao. I friggin loved that part.

What a pointless collection of petty, irrelevant, deeply irritating questions. He thinks he’s so clever, but with every passing minute of the trial all he did was alienate the jury and dig himself in deeper and deeper. His arrogance and narcissism meant that he had no way of comprehending the effect he was actually having on everyone present. When you watch the interrogation and he is told a child has a broken leg, he starts in on the self-pity of his supposedly injured shoulder; he constantly refers to his life being over and how he will never see his mother or his kids again. Jesus forgives. Hallelujah
To this day he does not understand or accept the charges for the crimes.
Possibly his way of living with himself for the heinous crimes he committed.
If you truly ask for forgiveness, remember you can ask n beg all day but God and only God sees your true heart.🙏
Kid is still dead
Isn't it wonderful now re-watching this, in the sweet, sweet knowledge that Mr Darrell Brooks is now at the commencement of serving every day for the rest of his insignificant life in total obscurity and being controlled and haunted by subject jurisdiction?
Yes! Very wonderful.
😂
YESSSS 🎉😂 I absolutely love this comment! It is the best feeling knowing this clown is locked up and being abused, like he did to everyone else
Yes it’s so very satisfying! If anyone ever belonged in prison for life he does!
@@oldrvr hes getting his "subjeck matter juris DICK shun" alright!!!!!
He asked the wrong question and a brilliant answer was given. Thank you Det Carpenter you have given full name you even remembered his dob :) excellent answer
He'll be sitting in prison thinking how he got an unfair trial, everyone was so against him and the conspiracy of it all, and how great a job he did at defending himself; that he wouldn't do it any other way if he had to do it all over again.
That Detective is awesome. Brooks is just making a fool of himself. Just trying to delay the court proceedings. That Detective was so good, I liked how he kept calling him Darrell Brooks and stuck to telling him it was him Darrell Brooks . Perfect
Absolutely Perfect
Loved this Detective help Darrell with digging his hole deeper and deeper. Darrell has no idea.
Detective Carpenter is a brilliant man. Brooks is going on and on trying to pick apart every little part of the interactions. The questions are so stupid. Detective is making him look so stupid . I love this judge but why is she letting him get away with so much. I'm just sitting here listening to him ask the same questions over and over.
I agree that Darrell has done everything to delay the court proceedings including lying . I’ve never heard of anyone lying as much as Darrell and if he gets caught in one lie he turns around and tell two more lies. Geez.
@@dianesmallwood6182 the judge is trying to keep Darrell from having a reason to apply for a new trial which he has mentioned he will do. The judge is just being super careful. We will be glad at the end because he’s trying everything to get this trial thrown out.
This whole thing feels like a child wanted to play "court" and a bunch of adults were forced to play along
😂😂😂
I LOVE this Detective and His responses to Brooks… Short, sweet, to the point… and NOTHING else…
I applaud this Detectives patience and professionalism with Brooks!
I don’t think I would have the willpower to be calm and cool with him. He thinks he knows everything. I have to say again, I’ve never heard any defendant that is representing themselves says “grounds” when there’s an objection. He’s not a member of the Wisconsin bar even though he has convinced himself he is. I think that this guy is delusional and has serious mental issues.
He yells out “ GROUNDS “ as the grounds are being stated 😂 I wish the judge would have told him “ the grounds were being stated as you kept repeating the word grounds. Next question “ 😂😂
Dude spends his life interrogating people, it's pretty obvious he would be good at this.
Det. Carpenter had to listen to DB for over 5 hours during the interrogations. Det Carpenter heard his lies, though not all. Carpenter had him DB pegged from the very beginning.
I watched this entire trial when it was first happening & I still revisit it to this day! I believe the reason why some of us revisit it so often is because most of us have never witnessed anything like it before & believe it or not, I find it to be very
educational, regarding the
Law! This detective is definitely one of my favorite witnesses in this case. His endurance, restraint, patience, integrity & intelligence is impeccable, to say the least! This is the type of man that I would love to have in my life as either a friend, or even better yet, as a partner! 🥰 IMO, it’s his qualities, morals & values that simply make him more attractive than he already is! 😍😉
I find it hard to believe we'll Ever see a Defendant do a Brooks in our lifetime again he Genuinely believed he was walking on all Charges
Same I’m watching now 😂
This detective is just spot on! He had DARRELL BROOKS pegged! His interview was perfect!
thank god i thought i was the only one watching it over and over
@@kellymorgan7950 You & Me…Plus hundreds & hundreds of other people are all saying the same thing! Half of the country is obsessed with watching this trial repeatedly! It’s like we can’t get enough & with every new re-watch, I swear I see things that I didn’t catch the first few times I watched it!😳😱😳😵💫 I believe the reason why so many people are rewatching it over & over again, is because we’ve never been exposed to a public murder trial as hideous & insane as,“The State of WI vs. Darrell Brooks Murder Trial”! I’m shocked by it every single time! 😂
Brook's entire defense summed up:
Would it be fair to say that you remember if you recall to the best of your recollection that i object to being called that name?
😂💯
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Plus jurisdiction!! Grounz..
😂😂😂😂 spot on
And while we're on subject, jurisdiction.
Boy he is really angry at the detective for interrogating him and not giving him all the information he wanted up front. You can tell when he’s questioning this witness and Erika Patterson that he really is full of anger and rage. He thinks they owe him something.
I agree, how was detective carpenter able to give this information when Darrell was initially interrogated because many of the people when into the hospital through the night. There weren’t any numbers compiled that early and even parents in some cases hadn’t seen their children or loved ones because they weren’t sure which hospital they whether it be general hospital or children’s hospital. And the detective didn’t know how many deceased.
The detectives have no obligation to disclose all the information they have concerning a crime. In fact, it would be foolish to show your hand. They wanted to see if Darrell was lying to them and Darrell sure did the entire time!
As a career criminal, one would think that DB would know that police officers are able to use deception during interrogations. I forgot his crimes are only involve underage girls, shooting a gun at his young nephew, and petty drug crimes. He’s never had any real action with police. He’s actually been protected by the court system throughout his criminal career.
@@Lmo701he lied the whole trial.
I love how the detective is being totally deceptive to not give away his secrets to criminals;) ❤❤❤
I didn't pick up on that, but a great idea! ❤
DuRel couldn't stand that Detective Carpenter withheld information from him! He was so angry!
I love how he thinks just because this detective didn’t physically search him that he doesn’t know where they were found.
Playing devil's advocate, cops don't always have 100% integrity, as we've seen over and over, though I believe this particular detective.
This, in my opinion, is nothing but "See jury, the detectives lied to me so I am innocent."
Your correct
It took him two hours to come up with that. What a shame.
😂😂😂 DB trying to out smart Detective Carpenter is just hilarious because he makes himself look dumber than what he is 😂😂
I love when he tries to say with confidence multiple times can you strike what he just said from the record and gets denied everytime
This one thinks you can strike witnesses answers🤣🤣 great attorney skills🤣
Omg Brooks is hating that he got played and out smarted by the brilliant Detective! Love how he constantly kept calling him by his name and refused to refer to him as a third party! Not sure why Brooks is allowed to ask all these ridiculous unimportant questions
The judge alow it so he looks even more guilty in the eyes of the jury. He is asking so much stupid questions and he is not realising why they are allowing it because he is been played by the judge and the DA
I don't know why this judge let this go on for this long he just asking all these some stupid ass questions I'm tired i know the jury is tired too
The questions should not have been revenant. Db just wants to know how the police and fbi work.
@@poppywales - They should not have been allowed. They are not probative or fact finding for the Jury. Moreover, many of the questions on the interrogations were asked and answered in pre trial hearings.
Love this detective.
DB only made the jury hate him more,if that's possible.
He is boring the jury with his pointless questions that leads to no where that is a big mistake is a jury trial
Let's face facts of this entire trial:
As a possible suspect of the parade attack,
Darrell Brooks lied his butt off.
Then admitted his life was over because he knew he f'd up.
Then faked being injured by the police officer who arrested him.
Screaming and cussing he was taken to the hospital and proven not injured.
Fast forward to hearing eye witnesses positive IDding him all over the area hurting and killing people with his vehicle.
Trying to discredit witnesses to prove them wrong.
Videos galore of his vehicle hitting people in the parade, even people flying over the hood of the vehicle and DB running over people again.
DB disagrees with use of videos and eye witnesses.
Several dozen people, many videos...
He vehemently vehemently objects...
Demanding the court and prosecutors verification of their employment credentials for legally presiding over the court proceedings.
He refused to accept the non certified copies of anything provided to him.
Literally accusing Judge Dorow and prosecutors of TREASON!!!
Accused a jury member of flipping him off at a pre trial hearing.
Once proven he was wrong and even locating the actual woman who did flip him off, ( the person who was not a jury member had been barred from the court room)
DB disagrees with the conclusion and accused the court of pulling CRAP in not dismissal of the juror. He knows that he is right, the juror is guilty of flipping him off.
Again the court determined who the person was and the person had been barred from the court room.
It was not a juror.
These examples of DB BS delay tactics and attempts for delay and derail the trial could continue for months....
Prosecution FULLY completed the tasks in front of the court.
His defense, ONLY defense is to:
Discredit everyone else and everything the Prosecutors placed in as evidence.
In closing statement DB refused to argue facts.
Refused to argue FACTS of this case.
Admitted his guilt in the first line of defense closing statement.
This detective was everything and MORE👌🏾not to mention handsome❤
@@emilywickler8871 Well said!
Darrell Brooks… that always complained about “Rush to Judgement”…. Only caused and created the Jury to take less than 3 hours to find Him GUILTY on ALL 76 Counts….
Everyone in that court room kept so much self restraint. Its incredible. Idk if i could've done it. Much respect for everyone that is going through this.
Especially the bailiff behind him being constantly recorded but SOMEHOW maintaining a poker face! My eyes would have rolled out of my head so many times, soooo many times!!
Detective Carpenter, you Sir are a total Legend...If you're ever in London UK, there's plenty of us that would love to shake your hand and buy you a beer....Orrr make you a cup of tea. And yes, Sir, you will be allowed to finish..🥇🏆
this is so painful to watch , he really thinks he's doing something.
Those facial expressions were foul!!!!!
😂😂😂😂 he really does!
He wasted over 2hrs of everyone's life 😮😮😮. The only thing he won was the rest of his life in prison 😊😊😊
Detective Carpenter's script does not change because he's honest and operates with integrity and professionalism. Brooks's stupidity extends to the point where he thinks he's going to get off of murder charges due to the minutest technicality. All he's done with this barrage of inane questions is stall, prove the prosecution's case, stave off the inevitable for a little bit, and make a complete ass of himself. His obsession with protocol is about as useful to any of the charges against him as the color of his tie.
This Detective is on point
I object to the characterization of that tie as his. He does not claim that tie, nor does he own any ties of that description.
The keys MIGHT have been picked up from the grass.
Oh okay NOT GUILTY!
😃
While he's dumb as a box of rocks, this really was his only option as a person defending himself (lol). Any other options had a 0% chance of succeeding. Figuring out a technicality that could yield a mistrial maybe had a 0.0000001% chance of working. Nonzero!
Brooks just make me gag looking at him. He really think he know the law!
If he doesnt want to be called Darrell Brooks, can we just call him ass hat instead?
😂😂😂😂
his line of questioning makes Amber Heard’s lawyers look competent 😂😂
All the world’s a stage. Research flat earth :)
This is exactly what DB wanted , to question the people that questioned him . Fortunately he never made this man feel uncomfortable for one damn second ( which you can tell is his entire goal ). He may have a lot of disdain and anger , but he is not uncomfortable, like DB was when he was interrogated.
Yes!!!!!! He was mad at him, so it’s like I’m going to get you back. He is not even close to his playing ground.
Exactly!!
Detective Carpenter had nothing to hide.
@@jinaringhofer5379 exactly
People usually aren't uncomfortable when they know they are in the right and battling wrong...well in this case battling pure narcissistic evil.
His entire questioning of this detective is to 1) try to assume a position of power over him to get back at him for the fact that he was caught in all of his lies during the interrogations and 2) also to be nosey and try to figure out the strategies that were used on him during the interrogations and the investigation process.
Definitely
Exactly. And he feels offended that he was lied to. He’s trying to set up some appellate issue that in his mind, he would have never been charged if they weren’t dishonest.
Nosy azz DB
He’s asking these questions to stall and delay. He questioned him for 2 hours and never talked about the actual reason for the interrogation. His questions are all BS and about logistics. Who cares about where you were interrogated? Who cares about the FBI being present and the department being understaffed? I’m sure all of this is pissing the jury off seeing as though these questions have nothing to do with anything. He’s avoiding the topic of the interrogation just like he did during the interrogation.
Darrell is such a simple person, by that I mean very simple-minded. To call him a child would be an insult to children.
I have said I don’t like it when people call him a monster because some monsters have some redeeming qualities like Frankenstein Dracula etc whereas this POS doesn’t have one redeeming quality. Do you have any idea how hard it is for someone not to have one redeeming quality well this POS has managed to accomplish that. He is easily the most despicable human being I have ever seen in my life.
He is acting in his own defence and asking the witness questions that are incriminating him even further. Then when he doesn’t like the answer, he asks the judge to remove that answer from the record to which she obviously replies “no”.
Do know how utterly stupid that is 😂😂
One of my favorite parts he says it with such confidence too can you strike what he just said please. Umm no 😂😂
What's his game, is he denying that he drove that car into the parade? Does he see himself as not guilty? He shows no accountability nor any remorse.
He plead Guilty by way of Insanity initially, then fired his public defenders and changed his plea to Not Guilty he petitioned to represent himself -pro se- and from what I’ve been able to tell his defense is ? That he’s a sovereign citizen.?
In his closing arguments he tried to say there was a recall of that vehicle. He has made every excuse possible as to why he shouldn't be held accountable, he's pathetic and delusional
Delay delay delay, and try to get on the nerves of the judge and prosecution to make them snap and hope for a mistrial. He failed spectacularly
I think he was hoping the jury would see he was "deceived," by cops and a corrupt judge, and that Erika *made* him do this so that they would feel bad for him and nullify the whole "do not murder," thing.
It’s my guess that since he was driving a car on a street and he honked his horn and people didn’t get out of his way that it must be their fault that they got hit because they didn’t get out of his way! Besides he’s not Darrell Brooks and doesn’t consent to be called by that name!
I watched this trial and loved watching this detective on the stand and still can’t get enough of him :)
💯 percent agree Darrell Brooks annoys him and he has a hard time hiding it lol... it's hard to not get furious at the way he is only concerned about his self. He honestly doesn't care about the people he killed and hurt...he feels nothing. He doesn't even have enough human being about him to pretend to care except the fake pauses and dabbing his eyes for the jury. He has enough nerve to keep on about his shoulder and changes the subject... Carpenter does it back to him and I love it
Thank you Detective Carpenter! 😂 He met his match in you. Using his name at every opportunity was driving him nuts. 😂

Absolutely none of the questions he asks these witnesses have ANYTHING to do with the murders that he is standing trial for. I never understood what his purpose for these questions was. He never tried to prove his innocence in the murder trial! He completely ignored the main focus when questioning his ex, focusing only on their relationship and arguments. Then, he only questioned this officer about the interrogation and nothing else. What the hell was he trying to prove with this line of questioning? What does the interrogation have to do with proving his innocence in the multiple murders he's being charged with?? They've already ruled that the interrogation is admissible! He's not going to reverse that decision, and the jury is not going to ignore the deaths of multiple children even if some policy wasn't followed during an interrogation! WHAT. IS. HIS. POINT??
He's just trying to be obnoxious and waste everyone's time
Why doesn't Brooks just ask the Detective what's his favorite color?
That question has just as much relevance as the rest of his questions.

I really hope everyone appreciates how fkng boss this investigator is. He constantly referred directly to the fact the the man he interrogated was the defendant/defense. He even got Demon Brooks to confirm his presence in the interrogation multiple times. This investor directed Demon Brooks attention multiple times and got him to incriminate himself over and over. This single witness questioned by Demon Brooks is easily enought to destroy any chance of a coherent defense!
