*Great product. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I have never used a baitcaster before and did a lot of research before buying this one. I bought it with the Torrent casting rod as well and it works very nice.*
I just bought my first baitcaster and I hadn't used one in about 15 yrs and they were my uncle's so they were already spooled so this video is definitely a video that I learned a lot from. I can't wait to get the right rod for me to use the BlackMax on, so this video will help me be able to spool it up
Jim, you confirmed everything I thought about spooling new line on a baitcaster, except I need to get the line conditioner. I love a limp line with as little memory as possible. Thanks for the great tips my friend!
Good information, I almost didn't watch this one because it seemed a little too basic, but you seem to always have good tips. I've had trouble with line bunching up on one side of the spool, and usually pull the line back off and start over until it lays right. I usually hold the line with my fingers for tension, and hadn't thought about that being the part of the problem due to how tight or close I hold the line to the reel. Thanks for the video.
Excellent! I needed a refresher after missing the last two seasons while in and out of the hospital....AND you are spot on re KVD line juice . It really relaxes the line memory. Can't wait to get on the lake in my backyard. Thanks man, jimmy
DUDE!....thanks. Very nice of you to comment and forward a note...I gotta tell ya....today, in the mail, what do I find? But, my first ever delivery of
OF BIO SPAWN SOFT GEL PLASTICS AND ARE THEY AWESOME.!!! Thanks for the heads up on these guys and their products during a recent episode. Keep up the good work!
One thing I do differently with the KVD line conditioner is spray a soft cloth (i.e. one used to clean glasses) and wrap it around the line coming in. I add more to the cloth ~ halfway through spooling. Then I spray the reel when all the line is spooled.
I've already cleaned all my reels (thanks to your 3 part vids). Huge help to watch to remember things before I do it myself. Thank you. Question: How soon can I start spooling up reels for the new season? Living in Iowa, I bet I got 3-6 weeks before I can bank fish, several more until take out the boat. How soon can I respool some reels?
I have a few questions about the line treatment. 1.) does it effect the strength of the line? 2.) how often should to re apply? Hopefully you can answer my questions, nice video by the way. Tight lines Jim!!!!
+Jonathan Latham Hey Jonathan, It does not affect the strength and you will know when to apply more. Once it starts to act like non conditioned line then reapply. I normally spray my line the night before I go and then once while I'm at the lake.
Nice video, 👍🏼 the only other thing I can think of on line bunching up on one side is if you have an older reel and the paw is worn on the levelwind and not returning soon enough
Great video, happy you addressed the bunching of the line. Quick question, around what # test do you see the least affect. I assume the limpness varies from say 12, 15, 25# mono/flouro. Great vid and great closeup on the filled spool. Definitelt your tip videos are the best and easiest to see.
+CatinMoon Thank you! Kvd line and lure works well with all lb tests, but the smaller diameter lines sprayed or not are usually more manageable. I appreciate the comment bro!
i just bought a reel and line and the guy at the store said he didnt know how to spool eventhough its a service they provide. so here i am. Thank you for the video. also do i need that conditioner for a braided line?
On spooling on the line, I don't have a spooling station, so I run it through the rod guides, and onto the reel. The line, I run a screwdriver through the hole and wedge the spool against my vice with the screwdriver handle up semi-tight against the spool of line to create minor tension. Then I run the line though my line guides and onto the reel. I do put my left hand out front with a saturated paper towel of line conditioner and again put slight tension on the line with that. I prefer never to underfill my spool as it will cut down on casting distance and overfill it slightly if any at all. Overfilling will cause a tendency to backlash/overrun more so if I find I've overfilled slightly it can easily be taken off. Having said all that , I like your set up as mine is primitive but works easily enough for me. And of course , I agree with the 1/8" from the top of the spool . Even though I do it differently, I ALWAYS enjoy your videos as your neatness and organization is second to none. As always, Thanks so much!
Nice video. I bought some of the line and lure last year, haven't tried it out yet. How often do you spray your spools after first spooling them up with fresh line?
thanks for the tips, good vid! how do you feel about reel magic they have it at my local tackle shops is it like the kvd line and lure ? will it rust my reels? i always wanted to try it, i change line a lot lol. tight lines in 2016!
+Dick Hoskins Thanks bro! Concept A is a solid reel man. 22lb drag, small compact frame so it palms really nice, love the cork grips, and its fairly light as well. Thanks for watching!
Hey quick question. I'm looking into buying a new baitcaster for the upcoming season. I was looking at the 13 fishing concept A. I was wondering what you thought about it and if it was worth the money. Or maybe there is a better reel in that price range that i should try.
+Brandon Boyer Concept A is a solid reel, if its a bit out of your price range check out the Inception if you want to stick with 13 fishing, I've heard its a nice reel as well. Bass Pro Pro Qualifier is another great reel for the price and you can't go wrong with the Daiwa Tatula either.
Out of curiosity, I noticed you ensure your line guide is centered when you start. Is there a reason for this? Do you find it balances the reel better? The reason I ask is I tend to put the line guide as far to one side as it goes. I haven't had a problem but if centering it at the start is actually better I'll ensure to do that from now on.
what is the name of that spooling machine you used? ive always done spooling as a 2 person job like my brother holds the spool when i reel in and ur way looks easier
TackleJunky81......thanks man! I have 9 baitcasters. Sometimes the line builds up more on one end than the other, now I know why. Too much tension. Where can I get a spooling station like you have? I have asked your bud Flukemaster, been a week or so about uneven spooling w/o any reply, guess he is busy.
Hi !!! I wanted to ask why when I collect a thread in my reel the thread does not return in a straight way Sometimes there is an area in the reel where more wire is gathered and an area with a little thread I wanted to know is it normal or something is wrong
Hey TJ81, I've got the spool station also to respool my reels, but sometimes the line still bunches up to one side, I notice that when putting reel on the reel seat the reel gets cocked a little, i'm wondering if my spooling station is bad or i'm putting reel to tight on the spooling station, i'm just asking for your opinon on this, Thanks
Good vid again Jim..I found some great new handles and good ceramic bearings at a better price than Boca's its called Hawgtech..I got their handles with Winn and cork grips with colors to match rod and reel..check them out.
+BassMasterfishing101 Concept A is a solid reel! Heck of a drag, palms really nice as its a really compact reel...love the cork knobs as well. I haven't used any Lews reels.
Sorry, just saw this comment. If you're talking about using the line conditioner, then once it's dry on the line it's good to go. You don't have to let it dry, but to get the most out of it it's better to wait until it's dry. Typically I just wait during the drive to the lake, or I spray the night before.
I already put my line onto my reel to restart I would have to take all the line off and respool but the line would not be on a spool or whatever it is called that holds the line does that matter and how would I keep my line from tangling on the ground it always happens
Basically the same way, but some people use mono backing when spooling with braid. Some of my baitcasters have a wiffle spool and I just run my line through one of the holes instead of using backing. I know some people don't like running their line through the holes. It's a personal preference imo. But regular baitcasters you definitely want to add backing when spooling with braid. If you don't use backing on the regular baitcasters the braided line can dig into your spool. Hope this helps and I haven't confused you.
I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
I just started watching you and this video just helped me out a Bunch I always had trouble with line bunching up in one side you just earned a sub and if you will check out my channel
Its possible to put line on balanced..... impossible to keep it balanced due to line stretch and re-tying lures ......keep it simple just put line on and fish.... I enjoy watching many of tackle junkies videos but he has a big tendency to over-complicate everything..
I use Trilene Big Game mono for everything besides frogging and sometimes jigs which I prefer braid. But IMO this flourocarbon craze is a gimmick and ppl waste so much money on it. Unless your fishing super clear water its useless. Most flouro has terrible memory, nicks and tears easy, doesn't last overall, and expensive. I can see ppl using it for cranking to get a little more depth on the lures but isnt significant. My advice is save ur money if ur fishing for fun.

Awesome tips Jim! I like the concept a so much I took the advantage of mystery tackle boxs deal on the inception!
+Joe Harrison Thanks Joe! Solid reel for sure!
great video man! after this, I'm definitely switching to KVD line and lure. The cheap reel magic just doesn't work for me. thanks!
+Josh Rozas Thanks Josh!

i just bought a reel and line and the guy at the store said he didnt know how to spool eventhough its a service they provide. so here i am. Thank you for the video. also do i need that conditioner for a braided line?

+Midwestfishingbros Thanks man!
liked the video gonna try the line conditioner thanks for sharing
+Sam Pequeno Thanks for watching!
Nice video. I bought some of the line and lure last year, haven't tried it out yet. How often do you spray your spools after first spooling them up with fresh line?
+TheBushwooky I spray them before each trip and usually once during the fishing day.
TackleJunky81 Thanks man!
Awesome video thanks for the tips
No problem bud!!
great tips and tricks as always man !
+The Bass Amateur 99 Thanks bro!
Hey Jim! Do you use the spray on all line (braid, fluoro)? Spinning gear too? Thanks a bunch and tight lines!
+Noah Shara Hey Noah, yes on all line...spinning gear too!
hey cool video man i never knew that had a spooling machine thing, wow what will they think of next.
+Lake2Sea Fishing Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the video ,great tips!!
+בלוג הדייג של טרולוס Thanks and thanks for watching!
Does mono color matter? I thought all of it was invisable.
mono is easier to see than flouro.
+Kendall Gray For moving baits I don't believe color matters with mono. For bottom bouncing baits such as Texas rigs or jigs go with floro.
It's you!
thanks for the tips, good vid! how do you feel about reel magic they have it at my local tackle shops is it like the kvd line and lure ? will it rust my reels? i always wanted to try it, i change line a lot lol. tight lines in 2016!
+TheHook I've used the reel magic and it works too, but kvd line and lure is much better. Good luck this season bro!
+TackleJunky81 thanks man!
Nice vid I've been thinking of picking up some of that line and lure, dose it work on all types of line
ive used the reel magic and bps line conditioners on all types and theyve worked good havent tried the kvd yet but heard its better
+Matthew Spranger Thanks Matthew! Yes it does.
Great tip bro! Question for you... how due you like the concept A, I was thinking about getting one, i want your thoughts on this
+Dick Hoskins Thanks bro! Concept A is a solid reel man. 22lb drag, small compact frame so it palms really nice, love the cork grips, and its fairly light as well. Thanks for watching!
+TackleJunky81 how is it with braid
Haven't used braid with them yet.
+TackleJunky81 apprciate your time boss
Thanks for the video , about line up my Aldebaran BFS 16 :D
No problem!

what is the name of that spooling machine you used? ive always done spooling as a 2 person job like my brother holds the spool when i reel in and ur way looks easier
Berkley spooling station.
thanks for the informative video
+Jeremy Mathis No problem, thanks for watching!
are you switching reels?Ive tried blakemore and bps line conditioners gonna have to try the kvd.
+matt thompson I will be using Daiwa and 13 fishing reels this season.
Great video man
+MidwestAngler93 Thanks dude!
Great Video!
pro advice, from a pro.
+Peter Haskin Thanks for watching Peter, I appreciate the comment man!
I don't know if you said in your video but would you recommend the line conditioner for braid as well
It will quiet the braid down a tad, but I use the conditioner to reduce the memory and braid doesn't have any.
Great vid bud.
+Winter Craighead (winterhawk78) Thanks bro!
TackleJunky81......thanks man! I have 9 baitcasters. Sometimes the line builds up more on one end than the other, now I know why. Too much tension. Where can I get a spooling station like you have? Got me a spooling station, and my problem has ended, also the line lube does the trick. Thanks for your info man!
Hi !!! I wanted to ask why when I collect a thread in my reel the thread does not return in a straight way Sometimes there is an area in the reel where more wire is gathered and an area with a little thread I wanted to know is it normal or something is wrong
you should make a follow up video about backing for your spools...
+ADK Fishing ruclips.net/video/trk3cJCYgUc/видео.html
Good video, thanks!
+Backlash Bassin Thanks bud!
Does it matter if I just redo the line but the line is on the floor and not on a spool because I pull all of it out to restart ?
Awesome vid!
+ZYTHUM13 Thank you!
I appreciate the video bro!!!!
+Ryan Aldieri Thanks for watching Ryan!
Perry Corbett If the reel is cocked it could cause the line to bunch up. May want to exchange that station.
Wicked-Awesome video
Thank you!
great info!
+Nuno Sousa Thank you!
great job
Thanks Jerry!
Sweet vid
+jtbassin17 Thanks for watching!
maaaan thats cool and looks easy, so ok let me get this straight all you have to do is connect the pangarangus to the mofustrafus and that's it right.
Yes, but don't forget to reposition the dingle arm in the phase detractors or your spurving bearing will seize and cause side fumbling.
Good vid again Jim..I found some great new handles and good ceramic bearings at a better price than Boca's its called Hawgtech..I got their handles with Winn and cork grips with colors to match rod and reel..check them out.
+slonefactor Thanks man! I'm familiar with that company, thanks for the heads up.
what's your favorite braid
+Cherryl Bruce Sunline FX2
Hell I use 15 mono, then use 10 braid for backing, then pump on the rest topshot of flor 8 lb. So I have 3 knots that balence spool nice
How do you like that concept a I'm leaning tords a lews bb2 pro any preference
And any one can awnsew this I'm leaning heavily tords a lews bb2 pro but wonders about the concept a and the smoothess of them
+BassMasterfishing101 what type of baits will you be throwing
+RedsBaller jigs Texas rigs and medium size cranks like ones that go 8-9 feet and some swim baits I make long cast to
+BassMasterfishing101 yeah get the bb-2z
+BassMasterfishing101 Concept A is a solid reel! Heck of a drag, palms really nice as its a really compact reel...love the cork knobs as well. I haven't used any Lews reels.
How often will you respray your line on the reels with L&L?
I respray my line every time before I go fishing, usually the night before if I can remember.
+Nick Johnson Hey Nick, before each trip and usually once while I'm at the lake, maybe a second time if I'm there all day.
+TackleJunky81 did you see the new Tatula CT's were released this week? I ordered one last night.
Yes, CT, CT Type R, Zillion SV TWS and Steez SV TWS
Does line and lure work with braid?
+Bassman99 yes
how does the rod that holds the spool stay secured to the base?
+kirk poincon It just sits in a groove.
How long do I have to wait to use it?
Sorry, just saw this comment. If you're talking about using the line conditioner, then once it's dry on the line it's good to go. You don't have to let it dry, but to get the most out of it it's better to wait until it's dry. Typically I just wait during the drive to the lake, or I spray the night before.
I already put my line onto my reel to restart I would have to take all the line off and respool but the line would not be on a spool or whatever it is called that holds the line does that matter and how would I keep my line from tangling on the ground it always happens
Kcn Outdoors why are you taking it off?
Another reason more line on one side of the spool than the other is you worm gear could be bad and need replaced
do you put braid on the same way?
Basically the same way, but some people use mono backing when spooling with braid. Some of my baitcasters have a wiffle spool and I just run my line through one of the holes instead of using backing. I know some people don't like running their line through the holes. It's a personal preference imo. But regular baitcasters you definitely want to add backing when spooling with braid. If you don't use backing on the regular baitcasters the braided line can dig into your spool. Hope this helps and I haven't confused you.
thank you
+Ben DeAndrade For braid and floro I use mono backing, I have a couple videos on backing your spool.
I just run the line threw the spool lol one day I may pay the price.
What’s the name of the black thing the reel was on?
Berkley spooling station.
I know the best way 😁
just go Cabela's and they'll spool your reel for you easy simple plus it's free (I think) all you need is a reel and line
Why dose my line over run causing backlashes when I spool up new line?
Do you think the kvd line and lure will fix that?
Mark tension knob is too lose
If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
if tying is hard I usually put on a piece of tape
Would not having a full spool make you cast lesser of a distance
yes!
sorry also another great vid
+Cherryl Bruce Thank you!
Just go to cabelas...they do it free 🤙
Not ready to fish yet????What??? I'm always ready
