All 3 species are short tailed pythons. Short tails is the complex. Until the early 2000s they were all under the python curtus complex. Python curtus brongersmai, Python curtus curtus, Python curtus breitensteini. They have all been elevated to full species status. Easy way to remember is “all bloods are short tails but not all short tails are bloods”
B. B. B. One of the few python species I am knterested in. More of a boa guy personally, but Blood/short tails are definitely one of the pythonidae I enjoy!
BBB AND KEEP UP THE AMAZING JOB 👏YOU ARE DOING! YOU HAVE CHANGED MY LIL FAMILY'S LIFE!MY 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAS ALTISUM AND SHE ABSOLUTELY LOVES REPTILES AND SO DO I BECAUSE OF YOU. SO THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I love blood pythons! I had one years ago. I’ve thought of getting one again but I’m already working with ball pythons and carpets I don’t have the space to have bloods too lol. We know you can’t just have one lol. Great video Brian!
I've always been under the impression that bloods are short-tails, since 2/3 of the genus are definitely short-tails, but people still call them bloods because that's what they were called in the hobby when they were still considered one species...and for a while after, honestly. When I was first getting into the hobby in the early 2010s, "black bloods" were still very much a thing and it's only in the last few years I've seen people really stick to calling them Sumatran short-tails or just using the scientific names. So basically, I've just assumed people say bloods and short-tails because blood is the more well-known. but common names are a mess to begin with LOL
Yup, so all bloods are short tail pythons. But not all short tail pythons are blood pythons. There are three different types of short tails. P. Brongersmi, P. Breitinsteini and P. Curtis. Hope this was helpful!
BBB. Have always loved Short Pythons. Something about that Chonky Stubby look. Tho locally in Malaysia many are wildsourced/locally bred and are feisty sausages!
Bloods are 1 of 3 species of short tail pythons. The phrase "blood and short tails" came about because people were calling all 3 species blood pythons.
Hard to decide what python I'd like to have - probably a Carpet but my boa (soon to be boas lol) will have larger cages, and I want at least one large-medium lizard, or an Ackie idfk. But Bloods are the only non-Aussie python I'm really drawn too other than maybe SD Retics. Carpets and Womas are dope tho I love Coastals and of course they are the largest lol.
I have a lavender ball python, Sumatran short tail python and a blood python my blood was harder to get under control but with time and patience she love me only got bite twice
I've always though blood pythons and short-tailed pythons in general, just looked like fat sausages with disproportionately under-sized heads. But my bf is into bloods, and one of his babies he's raising up is adorable. I'm in love with her and named her Veera, and I'm trying to get my bf to let me keep her as mine.
hey man love your videos would you do a Snake give away deal i would be very interested to see what you come up with cheers man all your snakes look amazing
Good afternoon brain Kuzko have a absolutely wonderful day good work have a super day have a cool day have a awesome day have a nice day have a great day you are worth it brain Kuzko
They are different species but are all closely related to one another. I have an opinion that there should be two recognized localities of python brongersmai though. Brongersmai Malaysia and brongersmai Sumatra. Malaysians being from the Malaysian peninsula, panang etc. Sumatrans being from the eastern side of the dividing mountain range of Sumatra just west of the Malaysian peninsula. In my opinion Malaysians have a slight difference in appearance and a known difference in adult size on average larger then their Sumatran counterparts. Also known for nasty attitudes that were saw in early imports of this species. Sumatrans being lighter in color with the more tan leaf color head and overall smaller size compared to Malaysians. Also having a much better temperament. Most blood pythons today are or are descendent of Sumatran locality.
My understanding is that blood pythons are a type of short tail python. So all blood pythons are short tail pythons, but not all short tail pythons are blood pythons.
As far as I know...they are all Short tail pythons🤔you have bloods, sumatrans, and borneos. Only real difference is localities. At least that's what I've read🤔

Now that you have two of the three short-tailed pythons species, you need a Borneo to complete the trifecta! Great video, really enjoyed the content.
