this was the first Olympics I watched with my late maternal Grandmother the last Olympics we watched together was 2020 Tokyo held in 2021 she passed in Jan 2022 aged 88 my favorite Gymnasts from this Olympics are Boginskaya Silivas Phoebe Mills etc. though the first summer Olympics I remember vividly was Barcelona in 1992 my favorite lady Gymnasts from 1992 were Boginskaya Miller Okino Li Li of China Onodi of Hungary etc.
Great video of two great gymnasts. Too bad the broadcast didn't show other amazing routines from this competition by other gymnasts. Where did you get the footage of the medal ceremony??? I always wanted to see it in full.
She just gave the score all the judges should have given. Silivas's vault scores were one of the biggest farces in all of gymnastics and nobody called it out only since she was so "loved".
Those two wobbles on beam cost Silivas in the end. They were pretty severe bobbles and she was over scored at 9.9 by a tenth at least . And she didn’t stick the vault . She was weaker on 2/4 in my book , tied on 1 floor , and won UB.
Shushunova was over scored here on beam. 2 judges gave her a 10 with 2 obvious errors. They both deserved 9.9’s. Other than vault, Silivas had better form throughout.
Neli, a 9.8 really? But I get it. Every one knows about Nadia's perfect 10, but not many know Neli got a perfect 10 in the sane Olympics too. I feel for her i really do, so i understand why shes got a chip on her shoulder with Romania, but shouldn't take it out on Silivas.
I think 9.8 was the correct score. She split her legs in the block and didn't stick the landing. Bart Conner even noticed it but said the judges didn't have the slow-mo advantage. But Nellie did notice it. She is a vault specialist (which was the event where she first scored the perfect 10 in 76 after Nadia that you have mentioned). Her score was thrown out in the end, so it didn't matter. Also, the Romanian judge gave 9.9 to Shushunova a rotation earlier on Floor - where all of the other judges gave 10's - which I find more controversial as Silivas's vault was not unanimously scored 10 by the other judges as it was Shushunova on Floor. Either way, both were amazing gymnasts and I truly wished they would have tied for the gold.
sorry but in this era that valued execution so much Shusho's bars didn't deserved the 9.9. actualy not only Silivas but many other girls in the comp had better flow and lines on the UB than Shusho, she alwas seemed to be "muscleling" things up way too much and was on the verge of breaking form, way too close actually to be simply ignored by the judges
Shushunova??? Low difficulty?????? Excuse me???? Gurrrl, please! take several seats!!! Girlfriend does a half twist to Markelov on Bars - which is named after her and still holds an E rating in the current code of points (it was rated G prior to that); a full twisting straddled back salto on Beam (Rulfova), a Thomas salto on Floor (which is now a forbidden move due to its danger) connected with another tumbling pass featuring a flic-flac on her KNEES and does a full-twisting Yurchenko on Vault. She also attempted a double twisting Yurchenko on Vault Finals; which was, at the time, the most difficult vault in women's gymnastics. So, no...
This is, without a doubt, one of the greatest moments in gymnastics of all time

I just loved Silivas for the joy in her work. She always seemed so thrilled to be up there. Shushunova always seemed so stoic.
The mistakes that Silivas had on Beam took the gold away. She always gave a good performance on Beam, but not that day.

Nellie Kim was not playin 🤣
This right here! Nellie Kim rigged it for the Soviets
?

Hardly! Let's remember that Silivas got 10 for beam exercise, and it wasn't perfect!
@@spribic11 Silivas on vault, where she is plainly mediocre, and Silivas on beam, where is incredible, are not comparable.

She threw her double-double in team optionals, that too hurt her bc she landed low on it! But it is forever known as a “Silivas!”

Cucu nova looked too serious.
Smile please
Shoudhounova was supported by judges. Her low difficulty lack of good execution had nothing to do with Silivas.she was by far by far by far the best
Neither had a lack of difficulty. In 1988, Shushunova’s difficulty was the highest across all four events.
😂😂😂
