  • This week at the château, work continues on the cottage where we find out if Tracy and Tony managed to get a digger to help with digging the floor up throughout the cottage, or if it has to be done all by hand.
Work starts on the château west-side chimney, which is in bad condition and we get to fit new flue liners to each of the fires so come winter we can have beautiful log burns.
Plus, Tracy discovers an original feature, hidden away under the grass for over 40 years and talks about our future plans for it.
And If you would like to join us on our family journey restoring this once abandoned château, then please just follow the link below, 🥰

    ABOUT US
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

My 7 year old grandson loves to help just like Jonathan! You are really giving him a full and adventurous life. My goodness Tracy, the aerial view of those ovals showed how large they are and how sore your back must have been!!! So much work restoring an estate of this size and age. I think you will be in the cottage by Christmas and what a happy Christmas it will be! 💕

Wow, absolutely impressed with the two of you. You will have deserved every bit of joy and satisfaction when you are finally in.
Jonathon will have memories you could never put a price on and, it does appear he has settled in well.
I have to say though I will feel relieved when you are 'in' so that you have a wonderful 'home' as a base whereby you can tackle the remainder project by project with a nice place to relax in in between.
All said, I would give anything to have a diversion like yours given the mess we're dealing with in Canada, just as soon literally bury myself in the sand and plug away.
P.S. the two of you are looking pretty buff! So you're right no gym needed!

Excellent episode! I'm still shaking my head at the beauty and level of the symmetry that the architect of that chateau was able to achieve with this property! The more you uncover and gradually bring back it just gets more and more beautiful! Tracy's discovery of the features whether pools or pools with fountains in the future sure would be fantastic views for both the cottage and the chateau it appears! I can be a realist though and know the cost to use as large fountain features might prove the straw that broke the camels back...but sure could be beautiful! I can hear Terry now...."but have you seen the fountains at Versailles?"...lol! All the best and till your next vid Bon Chance!

Double French doors to replace the one large door would be nice. You can create a little outdoor seating area from that door. Perhaps a few wrought iron chairs and a table. A pergola above the door with wisteria would be beautiful. I think for the time being, two nice arborvitae (fast growing) in large pots for the garden features until you have the funds for two fountains. Just a thought.

I read other comments that praised him and I agree but I want to praise you also because that kind of child doesn't just hatch you have to raise him with all the love and respect that he mimics. And you bought him that wheelbarrow and shovel in his size so he could feel a part of the restoration . He will look back with pride someday knowing that he helped. Tony, I think you've got serious competition from Tracey these days in the grafting stakes! Terry and Ash had better be taking note for when they get out to join you!!
Another great video - back breaking work digging that floor out by hand, but as you say, the digger money can be better spent elsewhere, even if your backs won't thank you. Totally agree about removing the door and replacing with another window: you don't need two entrances, it adds more light and creates more usable space. Tony will no doubt produce a magic result.

People often don't realise that if there is damp underground and you lay a plastic membrane and then concrete it pushes the damp into the lower walls. We used a limecrete floor, took ages to dry out but it's breathable and eco friendly. By the way, when you buy a chateau, throw the TV out of the window ! The work never stops.

Great video guys. Working very hard and Johnathon is doing an excellent job pitching in to help too. Cant wait to see what you do with the garden when you finish unearthing what you found in the yard Tracey. It's exciting when you find new treasures. Take care and be sure to take time out for yourselves!! x

That is a huge job digging our the floor. I know this is a big job but you are truly doing it best by insulating to save on heating and cooling ... These will be so beautiful restored!!! Lucky you in
finding them. Very cool door, looks like the bottom needs attention. I love the fireplace! That is a lot of stuff in the chimney, wow.

(Moira Ashton) Great vlog, Jonathon was a great help with digging and using his wheelbarrow, bless him, WHAT a fantastic find in the garden Tracy, lovely looking from the air at it, I hope you gave some of those clods of earth to the chickens, they would love the bugs in those, and scratching around, onwards and upwards , you're doing a fantastic job all of you, xxxx

We moved onto 10 acres about 18 months ago, I’m continually amazed at the mount of machinery we have had to buy to make life easier in order to keep this lot under control so it doesn’t take over our life. Once you have drawn a deep breath and forked out the money, you wonder how you ever did without it, but also how many uses one piece can have.

You two are certainly not afraid of hard work and it was very nice to see that you had your grandson helping, he will come to appreciate the place more as an adult if he has put hard work into it as well. I can't wait to see the two mystery pools all dug up. I love watching your vlogs and see your progress. Where is Ash these days?
