Lyrics:
In the streets of New York
Dope fiends are leaning for morphine
The TV screen followed the homicide scenes
You live here, you're taking a chance
So look and I take one glance, there's a man inside an ambulance
Crowds are getting louder, I wonder how the
People want to go fight for the white powder
People hanging in spots
They waited until the blocks got hot
And got raided by the cops
I'll explain the man sleeping in the rain
His whole life remains inside a bottle of Night Train
Another man got his clothes in a sack
'Cause he spent every dime of his rent playing blackjack
And there's the poor little sister
She has a little baby daughter
Named Sonya, and Sonya has pneumonia
So why's her mother in a club unzipped though?
Yo, that's her job, Sonya's mommy is a bar stripper
Drug dealers drive around looking hard
Knowing they're sending their brothers and sisters to the graveyard
Every day is a main event, some old lady limps
The pushers and pimps eat shrimps
It gets tiring, the sight of a gun firing
They must desire for the sound of a siren
A bag lady dies in an alleyway
She's seen the last of her days inside the subways
More and more down the slope, the kid couldn't cope
So he stole somebody's dope and a gold rope
Now my son's on the run, he's a wanted one
Had fun then was done by a shotgun
Upstairs I cover my ears and tears
The man downstairs must have drank too many beers
'Cause every day of his life he beats his wife
Till one night she decides to pull a butcher knife
Blind man plays the sax
A tune called: "The Arms on My Moms Show Railroad Tracks"
Many lives are cut short
That's when you're living
In the streets of New York
Baby needs new shoes
But his papa uses all the money for booze
A young girl is undressed in the back seat of a caddy
Calling some man daddy
Three men, slain inside an apartment
All you could see was the sparks when it darkened
Daylight broke, cops roll on the scene
The drug war, daily routine
Gambling spots, just a poor man's jackpot
You winning a lot, you get shot
The drug dealing fanatics
But you don't want no static
'Cause they got crack addicts with automatics
Shoot-outs for a desire for territory
A kid got caught in the crossfire
A tired mother can't take no more
She grab the bottle full of sleeping pills and took about twenty-four
Human beings are laying on the pavement
'Cause they're a part of a mental enslavement
The cop snipers, little babies in dirty diapers
This type of life is making you hyper
People scouting a torched-out building
And got killed when the cold air filled in
Is Hell really suggested?
No more persons arrested, a child molested
A little kid says: "Yo I got a color TV, CD
Player and car stereo, and all I want
Is a castle, I also got a thirty-eight
Don't give me no hassle"
One kid heads straight for the top
And gets stopped and popped by a crooked cop
Look behind you when you walk
That's how it is in the streets of New York

Kool G Rap is your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper
And if Large Professor isn't top 10 on your favorite producer's list, your favorite producer is wack.
Took me almost 20 years to recognize his influence on so many of my favorite rappers, once I did he went into my top 5
My favourite rapper is Eminem. So you're goddamn right
Sage Franks Nas
Shoot First Exactly. Illmatic from Nas was the 3rd hip hop album I owned and studied. About a year after I got Illmatic It Was Written dropped and Nas was in my top lists ever since. I never heard the fast life track with Kool G Rap and Nas until probably 2014, WTF! Talk about sleeping on someone hard.
This is why Kool G Rap is the greatest. He painted a perfect picture of New York. Wack rappers need to take notes from the greats
I agree
Razor Blade kool g rap and lord finesse and big daddy Kane were the three best until Big L came on the scene
💯🗡⚔️

This era is so pure.
Kool g rap, big daddy Kane, LL cool j, rakim, and krs one are so timeless.
What about NWA, Public Enemy, Run DMC, Ice T, Ice Cube, 3rd Bass…
@@zagorthegreatD.O.C too
G rap himself probably isn't even the best example since he started the whole mafioso genre in NY
@@zagorthegreat I think they west coast
@@wanderingwobb6300He wrote what he knows. The “genre” was started by a bunch of people trying to eat off his plate. When they wrote what they knew, it was good. When they were just imitating, they should have been checked.
Top 5 dead or alive. Most underated of all time!
Man, G Rap is the GOAT. 👀
Old school rap flows were a lot smoother than they are today. You can hear the soul/jazz influence.
Oh yeah
Old school artists actually flowed is another way to put it. G Rap’s longer phrasing here has melodic elements. Many commercial rappers “flow” today has no phrasing, just ragged sh*t talking. Whole culture is dumbing down and music is a part of that.
New York Anthem,
Those lyrics hit hard.
“Blind man plays the sax. A tune called ‘The Arms On My Moms Showed Railroad Tracks’.” - Kool G Rap
NOBODY in hip-hop could paint a picture more vividly than G Rap! Classic tune. Big up to Large Professor on the beat.

Few can paint vivid pictures w/their pen-game quite like G Rap. An all-time joint of his.. Shoutout & much respect to Extra P/Large Professor for this beat too.
Gangster rap with morality. Different from gangster rap now.
Yea but he's nasty most people from any era can't do what he does
One of the best to ever do it
1990? Man, this sounds fresh 👍
Im miss the golden era the 90s so much!
He was the first gangster rapper I heard.
Nope it was Schooly D
I’m 46 and I must confess I took hip hop for granted because I always thought it would never lose its skill set and lyrical dominance but then mumble rap became popular and I ask why???what happened 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
Kids don’t want to listen to the same music as their parents I guess so they eat up the trash, they keep saying the bears are fire but I don’t get it, beats from the late 80s and the 90s are amazing, so diverse, don’t get me wrong there was trash back then
Rappers before only had their voices and ability to flow to come to the top in the music industry. Now only prospere who has money to make videos and put voice effects. Before, pure talent. Thats the difference.
As a 15 year old old school hip hop fan, I can tell kids of my age listen to music other than pop to follow trends or look cool. Because almost everyone likes that trash pop genre. Pop is trash.
@2FistedFighter500 Tell me one thing special about Cardi B. She’s among the worst of today’s rappers FYI.
@2FistedFighter500 there’s always exceptions.
*The actual Godfather of rap.*
Anyone who hasn't heard his sons music, check out 38 Spesh. Breath of fresh air in today's music.

Classic street record for my NYC day one's!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE LEGENDARY KOOL GENIUS OF RAP!!!!
To many, he’s the most slept on Legend in the game. After being a heavy hip hop head for 25 years and Nas being one of the first few MC’s I ever heard, I somehow missed out on Kool G Rap aside from a track with Mobb Deep and Jedi Mind Tricks and a few other features later in his career. I didn’t start listening to Hip Hop until I heard Liquid Swords from the GZA. It took me a while to go back and listen to those that came before the ones that got me into hip hip like Wu-Tang, Nas, Mobb Deep and Boot Camp Clik. Once I finally went back and listened to G Raps whole catalog I recognized his influence in the game, so many of my favorite rappers definitely took their inspiration from him. It took me until around 2014 to hear for the first time the Fast Life track with Nas, SMH. Kool G Rap has been one of my top MC’s ever since I got educated to his body of work. Roots of Evil is one of my favorite Hip Hop Albums of all time
HE PAINTED THE PICTURE OF NYC. WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE EVERY MAJOR CITY. AT THAT TIME🔥🔥🔥🔥
