I stopped going to a loc stylist because she kept coming them out. My thoughts were, how will it lock if you keep combing my hair out. Then the bell went off (ding ding ding), she was prolonging the process to get more money out of me.
Hi Yannie, the reason why water dries the hair is because it has a neutral pH. The hair's pH is around 4.5 - 5.5,rain water has around the same pH as hair (that's normal rain water, NOT acid rain). I use rain water in my hair almost every day and have been using it for about a year now. I catch the rain water, strain it,boil it and then strain it again through a cloth,( be sure to test the pH level with a pH strip for safety.) It has my hair soft as a fur blanket, absolutely love it!
She is stunningly beautiful! I still don't understand why so many locticians these days rake the comb w product through the loc. I feel like its some new age bs to make clients feel dependent on locticians.

So true. I just let my hair go and I wash once a month because I am not that active. Brushing is a no, no...it been almost 3years in December. I am loving this journey at age 57.
I’ve been obsessing over lint lately and I just watched some videos about brushing locs and before I dug my brush out of storage, I had to check your page. Glad I did! Thank you!
Thank you for imparting your wisdom on this channel and we have to pay nothing! LOL This Saturday I will be 7 months on my loc journey. I started from 2 strand twists and folks, including my loctician are amazed at the transformation of my locs. Everyone ask me what did I do and I say legit nothing. I leave my hair alone. I have never done a style and don't see myself doing one any time in the future.Since I am early in the journey I get my hair retwisted every 6 weeks but not down the whole shaft, just the roots. I don't mind frizzy hair(shoot my hair was frizzy when I was a loose natural) so I can care less about that. My hair locs are thick and healthy and you can't even see the 2 strand twist pattern. I rarely oil my scalp only when needed and my scalp tells me. I mist my hair with either rose water or aloe vera juice with vitamin e oil. I wear a bonnet/scarf always at tnight and even when I am just lounging in the house. Once my hair matures to a year, I intend to twist my hair maybe 3 to 4 times a year. This was the best decision I made with my hair besides going completely natural and most of the info I got from your insight. Again, thank you so much!!
Her locs are gorgeous. Thanks for the video. I was brushing my locs 1x a week for at least a 3 months. I stopped and noticed how I like it fuzzy versus flat. The flat look was getting thin at the edge. So lesson learned, everything is good now🖤
When I saw the title of this video... I immediately felt vindicated!!! I just recently came across a bunch of tik toc/ Instagram videos talking about the benefits of “ brushing “ your locs. The very first thing I thought was... the reason I loc’d up in the first place was to completely eliminate the necessity to maintain my hair with combs and brushes. As a matter of fact, I stopped using brushes on my loose natural hair years before finally loc’ing up. So... thank you so very much for being the one voice of reason and rational in a sea of misinformation and disinformation. I also believe that there is a great deal of people in the Loc’d community that are loc’d for superficial reasons opposed to having them for spiritual enlightenment and connecting holistically to their roots. This may also be the reason why people have not fully embraced the natural beauty of having Raw Loc’s ( sans gels and a bunch of other products to maintain and style their locs ). That’s why I greatly appreciate the disrespectful locs as you call them !!! 😄 Thank you again for blessing us with your truth and wisdom!!! 🙏🏾 *edited* I hadn’t even watched more than 3 minutes of the video when I first commented. Then I saw you talking about the origins of Locs in the Holy Book ... and how locs from a Spiritual place are maintained...🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 ❤️💯
Queen you are awesome I love the way that you break things down the honest way. I also love the way the word disrespectful is used in such a positive way. So my Queen you are very disrespectful disrespectfully beautiful. Much Love my Queen ❤️
I started my journey with nice thick locs. And watching videos I had combed and brushed my locs and have lost 4 locs and it has caused a bit of thinning. I will go back to what I was doing before these trends
Awesome! I just love how Yannie knows what she is doing. Her hands are bless by The Most High 💯👏🏽👏🏽the lady is beautiful and her lockes are absolutely stunning and she has a thick head of hair. I can hardly wait to start my loc journey as I am natural for almost six years. Much love🕎🖤🇧🇸🕎🖤💯
My sons locs are very relaxed now. They used to be more meticulously neat but it doesn’t suit him. I don use any retwisting gel products I just interlock with oil. I love how they look now. So much better than before
She's stunning!! What a beauty!!!😍 Thanks Yanni for your being so knowledgeable and sharing with us.. we really appreciate.. watching you from Australia and one day I will make my way there for an appointment.. I have 2 months baby locs so I'm waiting for them to mature
Yessss I use that Jamaican black castor oil on my edges and it’s been growing back I stopped tightening my hair every two weeks I just let it go and I love my frizz
This is really good advice. I am one month loc’d today. I was about to retwist my hair tomorrow for the first time and I’m glad I watched this. Thank you!!! 🧡
I'd just like to say thank you for all your suggestions of how to maintain locs. I've been storking you for over a year now! I've been loc'd for 7 months with my second set of locs which I maintain for myself as I had a bad experience with a loctician over 6 years ago. I have been listening to your advice and I'm enjoying the process. I love the Jamaican black castor oil which I use to retwist and oil my roots. I also use the rose water with vitamin e oil mixture to moisten my ends this has helped a lot through these cold months. Please continue to bless us with your knowledge.
ugh i just love your channel you’ve really helped me maintain my own locs and not to have to pay anyone i was nervous that all these ways she was trying to convince me to retwist was too much
Love the thickness of her locs and her hairline. I've seen videos where people use the brush to bring dirt and residue to the surface and combs for the parts but it looks harsh to me.
People with locs on RUclips HATE LOGIC. "EveRyBoDy’s HaiR is DIfFereNT" HAIR is HAIR people! Wax, honey, grease, excessive oiling, and excessive maintenance...bad for ANYBODY with locs.
No lie. I struggle with the idea of letting my locs grow with as little manipulation as possible. So many differing opinions with family and work. I actually bought a brush from reading about loc brushing. Guess I'll have to fo d another use for it. Thanks for the info!
I can't wait to start my new set of locs..you have me anxious to get started, those locs are amazing 😍😍😍..I've done my fiance's last 2 retwists using your no comb,no gel method and he loves it!
I was getting a little confused about the brushing issue. I was concerned about the lint that is so embedded in my locs and wondered what to do. But honestly, I have a very simple routine and I like your views on lint. My locs are thriving and I've decided to just let the lint be if I can't do anything about it.
Thank u for this information, cuz I was brushing my loc’s coz of lints Nd I would go with doin my hair like 3months. Nd my hair on the sides would b bushy. Wow . Thank u again. From Philly
Hi Yannie!! I totally understand that you are not taking new clients at this time however, could you make a video when your WILL be taking calls for new clients again? They are closing the borders so I won't be able to travel anytime soon. So please, let me know! Yes, I'm making it personal lol! Thanks again for ALL that you do and post!!
Yannie, please talk to the dummies using FLAT IRONS ON THEIR LOCS! THIS TOO ALSO COUNTERPRODUCTIVE! WHY THE HELL WOULD THESE PEOPLE USE ARTIFICIAL HEAT ON LOCS??????? LAWD HELP THESE FOLKS
Does she ever show the technique she uses to retwist he client’s loc? She says all the time that she doesn’t twist or palm roll the hair but she doesn’t show what she does do. If her technique is better for the hair, I know people would like to see it so they can use that technique on their hair as well.
Never have I ever said my technique is better for hair. I don't have a "my technique". I've always said in many of my videos "ALL TECHNIQUES ARE BAD FOR HAIR"and that my videos "ARE NOT ABOUT TECHNIQUES". And I've also said MANY TIMES "use whatever technique you want to use on your locs". There are 100s of people on RUclips that do locs and do toturals on "techniques", if that's the type of video you're looking for by all means you should subscribe to their pages so you can learn it. Bless.
Yannie the Locologist This didn’t need to turn into a disagreement over verbiage. When I say “technique” I’m referring to the way YOU do your client’s hair, but I’m sure you knew that. If your channel is about teaching your viewers how to maintain healthy hair (locs), I would think you would not only tell them what to do or not to do but SHOW them as well, even if it is your way of doing it. At the end of the day, we all know it is our decision how we choose to take care of our hair. GOD BLESS!
I seen a so called professional loc person on instagram do someone’s hair and they were literally like kind of pulling at the loc and roughly running their palm up and down the loc (If that makes sense) I was so mad because the persons locs already looked thin.
I stopped going to a loc stylist because she kept coming them out. My thoughts were, how will it lock if you keep combing my hair out. Then the bell went off (ding ding ding), she was prolonging the process to get more money out of me.
Wow she's so beautiful. And her hair looks so freaking healthy!!!!

I love how you use the word "disrespectful" as a compliment. 😄
I’ve been obsessing over lint lately and I just watched some videos about brushing locs and before I dug my brush out of storage, I had to check your page. Glad I did! Thank you!

Her hair is beautiful! Very thick!
Her client is gorgeous!!! I love her locs!!!
I'm trying to achieve that level of disrespectfulness!!!!

I Love when Yannie calls the hair disrespectful in her beautiful trinni accent🥰🖤

Dope.. I truly are tired of the neatness on locs. The products on locs. The bleach.. just embrace the fuzz and the process
Yani thank you for posting videos. It's the only way I can get your knowledge since I don't have Facebook.
She and her crown are just beautiful. This is definitely the fullness I want. Edges and all..
I’m so glad I found Yannie when I first started my journey. Yannie helped me start my locs the right way. I’m truly loving my journey it’s so freeing…
How do you start locs the right way? I want to begin my loc journey. I have natural hair for almost six years.
When you don’t even have locs and just here for the historically culturally authentic education 🥰
Her hair is gorgeous. That is my hair goal.
Yessss I use that Jamaican black castor oil on my edges and it’s been growing back I stopped tightening my hair every two weeks I just let it go and I love my frizz

You are EXACTLY CORRECT about what the bible says. Love that
