The blue light is likely not for night time. The screws wouldn't care about waking someone. It's probably there because veins are blue and its really hard to find a vein if their whole skin is lit with blue light. You'll find that blue light in public toilets in larger towns and cities for that reason.
Having spent a lotta time in this City, but never having the opportunity to explore this place; thank you for this lads. Regarding its future, according to TD McEntee, the Irish Justice Minister: "We remain open to receive submissions on how the building or site might be used”.
I know I have said it so many times before, but once again lads you have hit the jackpot with this explore! I always say to myself, they cant top this one, but you keep doing it, so thanks for sharing with us. What an amazing building and the closest I hope to ever being in one. The level of decay was outstanding and just added to the eeriness of the building.
Amazing job capturing the beauty held within Bright airy corridors with great amount of light throughout, truly shows gradual decay settling in🎉 Loved the Video😊
It's a shame buildings like this get left to rot when they could so easily be used for housing the homeless or similar, everyone has their own room plenty of space etc
I did my engineering apprenticeship at the company “eschmann” that was on the paperwork at 7:35 , more than likely for an autoclave unit which was used to sterilise dentistry equipment. Never expected to see that logo in one of your videos!
Having once worked withing the prison service both in admin and as active officer, the 'pen' to which you thought was the case o hate to admit would have been nothing more than wing storage for items used at certain periods such as recreation amenities, microwaves etc. Sorry to have burst the bubble. The 'pen' or seg would have been a specific block of cells and a wing unto itself. The design and layout that you see there is commonplace throughout the judicial system
You mentioned that executions took place there, I know in the 70's hanging was abolished in Ireland. Did you discover whereabouts in the old and or the newish part of the prison where they took place? Great vids, subscribed.
The first execution took place in 1828...Republican prisoners were also executed there in the 1920's...their bodies are under the flagstones in the exercise yard.
for a state building in the republic of ireland - it's weird that none of the signs seem to be in irish ... usually official signs are in both languages
The room where you said were visits was a gym im thinking they put the tables and chairs in for that film aswell and the place you said was the gym we used to call it the rec you would go in the evening and play cards and watch a movie if you wanted there was a toilet in the corner was a dodgy spot seen some amount of fights there it was like a blind spot screws didnt really see anything until it was to late a spot to take drugs aswell and smoke
I just noticed something that's got me confused. The video seems to have 2862 views but over 39K likes? How's that possible? Great video by the way. I loved it.
Wat a waist of the place could be made into something else instead of a prison as its a good solid old building the blue light is not for night time its to stop junkies injecting them self as the blue light on skin you can't find a vien its used alot in city toilets as well wat a great explore was interesting guys
I suppose you could say that, up until January 1922 this prison WAS a part of the United Kingdom. But the Anglo-Irish Treaty saw it handed over to the Free State Government.
Nonsense, it’s a night light for roll count through the night 😂 drug users don’t get their hands on needles in prison hence the reason they have to smoke heroin instead of inject it. Every cell has a light switch inside where you turn your own light on or off but you cannot switch the blue light on or off as the switch is outside the cell…. for the nightclogger to do his roll count!
It's in a foreign country, you Eejit! And you REALLY wanna see immigrants held in conditions like you see in this video(?) Fuck... you might as well rebuild The Kesh, The Crum or even HMP Maidstone.....
@@GlasgowCeltic88They should be in tents like they are in France, better still, they should be turned back to France before they get anywhere near here.
@@GlasgowCeltic88yeah because that's what they deserve. Always complaining about white people, creating slums and making it unsafe for us because the government allows them to attack us with impunity whilst making it illegal for us to call out the problems they cause or even defend ourselves when they attack us. Clamping down hard on us when we do by making it where the police only go after white people. So aye fuck em. Fuck Humza Yousaf And fuck Palestine.
I can't imagine what a sad little life someone must have if they have to make every single thing they see somehow relate to immigration. Find some joy mate.

Screws do night time count that's what it's for it's not for junkies . Lol
What absolute twaddle ! 😂
It's for security not drug use...
Ultra violet light is used in cities etc for drug misuse

maybe somebody could convert it into a hotel ?!
Nice to see pretty much only natural decay amongst the odd strip out of kit, and the power being on is awesome!

Thanks for this Great Video.👍🏻👍🏻 Wow very nice Prison. 👍🏻👍🏻
The yard was where all the action happened
It certainly doesn't take long for the paint to give up once the heating has been turned off!
Yup, once that moisture gets in, it's all over.
Ironic you mastermind getting INTO a prison😂
That wasn't the visiting room it was for recreation...if you look closely you can see the outline of the big TV that used to hang on the wall
Amazing!!!
Hello good video of the abandoned prison.
Great job lads, loved the camera angles on this one. Glad all the doors were open for you once you got inside.
So were we - good grief...
It's a shame buildings like this get left to rot when they could so easily be used for housing the homeless or similar, everyone has their own room plenty of space etc
Fantastic effort and a result worth being proud of mate.
Cheers buddy

There are no signs in Irish inside any jail in Ireland
Sometimes 8 cons shared a 4 man cell

It’s a RUclips glitch. Does it all the time annoyingly. This video currently has 622 likes.
The blue light I think it to prevent the inmate finding a vane so they are unable to inject
Nonsense, it’s a night light for rollcounts through the night!
Balls !
Looks like HMP Shepton Mallet
It's in the Republic of Ireland, as noted by the €100 cheque for the Special Olympics Ireland in 2009.
Omg great video, how long ago did you do this explore? I'm so tempted to explore it
Location
Was a kip...
This prison still had sloping out due to the cells having no toilets.. another reason for it closing…
Portlaoise Prison still has slopping out in 2024
Encapsulated lol.
Bet our taxes are paying for all that wasted power
Hello what is the reason why the prison got shut down for and also what year was the prison built in please.
New jail built almost next door...built between1818-1823
Hello thank you for your help on that also I hope you have a good rest of your week.
What prison isit
Wat a waist of the place could be made into something else instead of a prison as its a good solid old building the blue light is not for night time its to stop junkies injecting them self as the blue light on skin you can't find a vien its used alot in city toilets as well wat a great explore was interesting guys
Decay, decay, decay, decay, decay, decay, decay, decay, decay, decay,....
Open it up to house the "visitors" to our country...
Or how about we don’t and we send them back?
How, when it's in a foreign country...(?)
As if the British haven't caused enough problems, in Ireland, over the last 800 years?????
Is this in the UK 🇬🇧
I suppose you could say that, up until January 1922 this prison WAS a part of the United Kingdom.
But the Anglo-Irish Treaty saw it handed over to the Free State Government.
All the locks are removed. Security to be able to create a key from the lock?
It's so no one can be accidentally or purposely locked in as the cell doors lock automatically when the door is closed
Shitting in tin pots and slopping out
The blue lights are anti drug lights in that you can’t see a vein
Fascinating - thanks for informing us

No their not...for security
This is where the illegal immigrants need to be not luxury hotels!!!
No, they shouldn’t even be here
It's in a foreign country, you Eejit!
And you REALLY wanna see immigrants held in conditions like you see in this video(?)

Where is this In northern ireland
It's in the Republic of Ireland.... specifically the Southern part of the Country.
The old Cork prison
