So many good things about this time in NASCAR. The racing itself, the TV coverage, lots of good NASCAR commercials that make watching commercials bearable, etc.
I've been watching this bit by bit over the last day or two and OMG thanks so much for leaving the commercials in this! :D Lots of classics, lovin the Jr/Waltrip commercials :D
The one and only race I've ever attended. I Live in Utah and had a buddy that worked at the Weather Channel in Atlanta. I can still hear the race in my head. We were standing the whole race.
Man I've been following NASCAR since 2011 because I'm from Europe and NASCAR isn't covered on TV, yesterday I watched the 2003 Aaron's 499 and man.. It would be nice to see that kinda racing again. These last 20 laps were absolutely mind-blowing.
This is one of my all-time favorite Talladega races. It had everything: calm racing in the first half, drivers with adversity (e.g. Dale Jr. & Michael Waltrip), frequent passes for the lead, frantic racing the last 50 laps, crazy wreck, thrilling last lap & the BIG ONE after the checked flag. What more can u ask for? Gotta love 'Dega!
I loved Ned and Benny. Brad Daugherty is not even a commentator, he's really a fan masquerading as one, he even said himself that he is the voice of the fans and
Back when they were putting more horsepower in the cars. Now they are taking it out. I can't remember a time other than this race when a crash happened after the race was over.
It seems like the weather is always nice in Alabama on race day. Since I started watching racing back in 1991, I've only seen like three talladega races involved rain. An the race was never rained shortened.
Jr. should've won this race 6 times in a row if not for Waltrip this race... He had won 4 in a row up till this race. Then he won the first race here at Talladega again in 2004. So that would've been 6 times in a row.
2003 race = OMG LOLOLOL THOSE COMMERCIALS ARE SO FUNNY I LOVE THEM 2012 race = OMG MORE FRAKKING COMMERCIALS I HATE THIS GRRRR Goes to show how much times have changed. Sadly.
what? only 6 out of 22 tracks have been repaved, Talladega, Charlotte, Michigan, Pocono, Phoenix, and Daytona, and all of them have had some great racing, speeds at Michigan ranged from 190 in the corners to 220 on the straights, how is that not exciting?
Well, it was just an opinion, sir... xD And, I was just trying to capture in my mind how bad it was. This crash is one of the last BAD modern day flips.
Michigan was a one groove track. That was the best part of Michigan of how wide thre track was.. Also, Darlington, Vegas, Bristol and Indy have been recently repaved as well.
True that. I actually thought that JG, along with Sadler and McMurray were the 3 best cars in this race. I actually thought he was going to win or run 2nd, but Michael did a spectacular block on him and the whole field. He EARNED that win with a car that was mostly junk. But this race was a sign that JG and Hendrick were catching up to DEI.
Geez i miss this so much! Like why don't they go back to the older body styles, but make them just as safe as the Gen6 car. To me still all the Gen6 Cars look all the same minus the decals. I can guarantee that if NASCAR did this, the stand would be full once again
The reason today's races sucked is because of the repaving. It removes the bumps in track that break up the draft. Nowadays its too easy to draft up on a car and they all tap their brakes to stay off the car in front of them at times. Plus, this year with the overheating..
Yeah, I'm watching every race now, thus I can say that the pack racing in 2011 and 2012 wasn't nearly as exiting as this one here. With the exception of the finish of last fall's Talladega race and Johnson's win in 2011 at Dega. In 2011, only the last couple of laps were great to watch.
Even though I'm a Junior fan, this is one of my favorite finishes because Michael Waltrip was somehow blocking 4 lanes of cars off of Turn 4. BTW, do the cars seem faster in the turns than the COT and Gen-6 cars?
Johnson never really sucked back then but in my mind, but he really should not have been successful as he has been had cars stuck to form. Once the COT came in, the rich got richer and educated themselves. Johnson is a product of that more than anything else. I consider his 2006 title pretty deserving and 2007 but the others were a product of what team he was with.
His wreck was but it was by no means the worst in the history of the the sport. Hell this isn't even Sadler's worst flip, the one he had at Michigan in 2000 was worse than this.
It's AMAZING that NBC had the speed telemetry when Elliot flipped. You could really capture in your mind how fast Sadler was going when he was in the air... Still the worst flip in NASCAR History.
well, the two car tango was boring, but I like this years pack racing, they are 2 and 3 wide going 205 mph, in this race they were bunched up, but the top speed was around 193, I like the faster speeds better.
That start gives me chills. The gen 4 engine scream and the fans roaring. I miss these days.
yeah back when the stands were actually full every race.
@@oldskoolchevelle Yup!!!
Couldn’t agree more. 💪🏻
Regardless of who won, watching Dale and Michael work together is beautiful.
This early 2000’s era was an exciting time to be a NASCAR Fan. That Budweiser #8 was a Joy to watch Growing up as a Kid.
What an awesome race... The commercials were good too
The front end of that 32 tide Pontiac is a thing of LEGENDS! Amazing looking car
That car got me into nascar
So many good things about this time in NASCAR. The racing itself, the TV coverage, lots of good NASCAR commercials that make watching commercials bearable, etc.
Just bring these cars back
I've been watching this bit by bit over the last day or two and OMG thanks so much for leaving the commercials in this! :D Lots of classics, lovin the Jr/Waltrip commercials :D
RIP Glory days. I loved you
NBC is at it's best when they call Talladega races
3:04:09 elliot sadler
The retro commercials really bring in Nostalgia!
I was 3 years old when this race happened
I miss NBC coverage and this style of racing.
The car bodies today are good but the best NASCAR car bodies were from 2003-2007
The one and only race I've ever attended. I Live in Utah and had a buddy that worked at the Weather Channel in Atlanta. I can still hear the race in my head. We were standing the whole race.
Im glad that you left the commercials in it there are so many good ones that i remember
Man I've been following NASCAR since 2011 because I'm from Europe and NASCAR isn't covered on TV, yesterday I watched the 2003 Aaron's 499 and man.. It would be nice to see that kinda racing again. These last 20 laps were absolutely mind-blowing.

Gotta love 'Dega!
Thanks for leaving the commercials in it!
I love seeing these camera angles instead of what FOX and ESPN show at Talladega today
I miss this racing
Great upload, flyer2359, thx!
Watching Daytona & Talladega races makes me wanna go fast too!
Yeah buddy i LOVED Nascar thunder 2004!! Best game ever!!
these were the glory days. Nascar just didnt get any better than this right here
These commercials, so much nostalgia. But the racing is so close; when 40 to go comes up, you know stuff is going down :D
I loved Ned and Benny. Brad Daugherty is not even a commentator, he's really a fan masquerading as one, he even said himself that he is the voice of the fans and
gotta love the sound of those engines
Back when they were putting more horsepower in the cars. Now they are taking it out. I can't remember a time other than this race when a crash happened after the race was over.
Holy Shiz. Buckshot Jones Leading was awesome.
they almost stayed on the air in the 2002 Daytona 500. the second they went to commercial the big one erupted in turn 1
man i sure do miss when the race cars actually looked like race cars and dnt have a splinter in the front or a wing u kno memories
Great race &awesome finish simply the greatest Talladega race ever today's plate racing is close to it.
It seems like the weather is always nice in Alabama on race day. Since I started watching racing back in 1991, I've only seen like three talladega races involved rain. An the race was never rained shortened.
NBC had much better camera angles than fox back then. They captured the speed much better.
I was at the very top of the stands. Row 56 right at the entrance of pit road. That flip was insane.
Jr. should've won this race 6 times in a row if not for Waltrip this race... He had won 4 in a row up till this race. Then he won the first race here at Talladega again in 2004. So that would've been 6 times in a row.
And Jeff and NASCAR stealing one away by not finishing it under green
another great talladega race thks to DEI. miss you BP.
Oh the memories of these sounds...
man that was a GREAT race i just hope its this good this year with the GEN6 cars !!!
That was so awesome seeing Buckshot Jones out front.
These are the REAL commentators of NASCAR, after BP passed, DW tried to fill his shoes..
Yes. Honestly I stopped being enthusiastic about Nascar on TV after he died.
wow this was actually very exciting to watch ;u;
i felt so bad for no 43 though :c
Interesting to hear Sterlings comments when you consider the 2004 Spring race had the most lead changes since the 1980s
Wow i remember even the commercials
Now that is real racing compared to now.
I was at this race. This is the first time I've seen the broadcast.
The MRN call couldn't do justice to how viciously they're racing
This was when you didn't NEED another driver pushing you to get to the front. Just good old pack racing.
2003 race = OMG LOLOLOL THOSE COMMERCIALS ARE SO FUNNY I LOVE THEM
2012 race = OMG MORE FRAKKING COMMERCIALS I HATE THIS GRRRR
Goes to show how much times have changed. Sadly.

DALE JR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Memory
Buckshot really stayed up front for a while.
3:04:06 Elliot's flip 3:09:04
Last Caution it
True that. I actually thought that JG, along with Sadler and McMurray were the 3 best cars in this race. I actually thought he was going to win or run 2nd, but Michael did a spectacular block on him and the whole field. He EARNED that win with a car that was mostly junk.

Speed isn't always what makes the race.
back when earnhardt jr and waltrip were unbeatable on the restrictor plate tracks
12:52 Jr's face though :D
God I feel like I watched this race yesterday.
Geez i miss this so much! Like why don't they go back to the older body styles, but make them just as safe as the Gen6 car. To me still all the Gen6 Cars look all the same minus the decals. I can guarantee that if NASCAR did this, the stand would be full once again
by god what happened to racing in Talladega. compared to racing today this is more awsome.
Buckshot Jones!!! awsome...

i love the nascar race
even the COMMERCIALS were better back then!!!
man i miss that noise at super speedways
He led a little bit of the race, I actually felt like at one point he had a shot to win it, if he did not wreck.
random side note, commercials back then were better
How did you manage to upload a video this long/size??
Even though I'm a Junior fan, this is one of my favorite finishes because Michael Waltrip was somehow blocking 4 lanes of cars off of Turn 4. BTW, do the cars seem faster in the turns than the COT and Gen-6 cars?
These were the days when you could hear the fans screaming. Now Fox turns on a microphone in the stands whenever Junior makes a charge to the front.
Crazy how the pole sitter ends up upside down.
All except for Allen Bestwick, who you can hear in this video. :)
Sounds just as good if your at the race
Lol @8:50 "wreck turn 4... We didn't even get there yet!" XD
same here. Cant wait for Daytona.;)
2:34:20 oh man. getting a little rough. hell yeah i miss these days.
Johnson never really sucked back then but in my mind, but he really should not have been successful as he has been had cars stuck to form. Better Noise? Check
Seems Faster? Check
Handling Racetrack? Check
Classic Drafting? Check
Better Racing? Check
Do You Miss This? Check Check Check Check......
Although, it wasn't even pack racing in 2011.
New Gen 6 car looks promising
His wreck was but it was by no means the worst in the history of the the sport. Hell this isn't even Sadler's worst flip, the one he had at Michigan in 2000 was worse than this.
I WAAAANT YOU TO WANT ME... my daddy used to sing that :)
lol
the racing MIGHT be better but idk but at least if ur up and 3:00 am you can see it lol
Yes no toyota in the race and it was perfect.
Too bad this ended up being Buckshot Jones last race
It's AMAZING that NBC had the speed telemetry when Elliot flipped. You could really capture in your mind how fast Sadler was going when he was in the air... Still the worst flip in NASCAR History.
Best car from 2003 was that 38 car
Nah that #8 machine was
@@JJA1987 I meant best paint job was the 38
karma totally kicked 38 in the balls for hitting 43 and that poor jack man
editn OUT the commercials
3:02:35 you wont see cars these days get such a huge run enough to take the lead cleanly
3:04:18 race defining moment
how fast these cars of 2003 are?
Its because the ESPN announcers have no souls when they talk, its almost impossible to watch
Better Camera Angles/TV coverage? Check
well, the two car tango was boring, but I like this years pack racing, they are 2 and 3 wide going 205 mph, in this race they were bunched up, but the top speed was around 193, I like the faster speeds better.
I went to this one
2:17:10-2:17:22 Most impressive fucking save. It's a shame Jimmie's engine would blow because of that.
