This is one of the most beloved Famicom titles in US and Japan. I remember back in the early days of emulation, this game came highly recommended. One of the most stunning graphical effects is not merely the simulated parallax scrolling, but the SHADOWS as well! This is all being done on an MMC3 chip, as usual in this era, with just 2 megabits (granted, it's a short game.) This is an artistic showpiece for the system.
"Extremely rare, extremely expensive". That's kinda funny to hear when you consider that this game is dirt common in the usual Famiclone markets. It was popular enough that it even got a second life as Pokemon Red, a hack that replaced the main character with a Charmeleon. I had that version growing up. It's like with that one Flintstones game on the NES. It makes many American collectors cry in frustration, but it was a pretty popular game everywhere else.
Right? And it's not just that, it was almost certainly more popular in the Famiclone markets than in Japan itself, due to its late release. Everyone was playing Super Famicom games in Japan at that point... or PCE/CD, I'd assume, so games like this one just stayed under the radar.
Welcome back to the Famiclone land, because that's where this game did well as far as I know. Great game, one of Natsume's best on the system in my opinion, alongside Shatterhand and Shadow of the Ninja (speaking of which, Kage/Shadow of the Ninja is getting a remake it seems?) This one's fun, not annoyingly hard and not too long (the wave attack works best, usually). Good stuff.
Another title that's had a second life in the Famicom aftermarket under several different reskins. The one that's most familiar to me is "Pokemon Red", which changes the player character to Charmeleon! Outside of that, I never actually got a chance to play this game. Good to know it's another solid late Famicom platformer!
Such a lovely platformer, one of the Natsume's best. I remember playing Mitsume ga Tooru on many many many weekends in my childhood but had no luck in beating level 4 😅
I played this one a couple of days ago in preparation for this episode, really liked this one. I kind of wish the punishment for dying was less harsh when it came to upgrades but still really solid regardless. I'm not really sure how the west views this game since I barely interact with anyone or communities. Natsume sure made a lot of very good games now I'm thinking about it.
Ah yes, this is one of the few games that Vietnamese often pointed to as a classic along with Contra, Mario (just the first one, not many knew the sequels existed) and Legends of Kage (the game that most Vietnamese refered as "Nezha saving his mom"), though only for those who owned a Famiclone (families who played Famicom games on VCD players like my family did missed out on a lot of great titles, including this) That said, this, Blackjack and Astro Boy is the only Tezuka products that made it to Vietnam (though mostly animated series, Vietnamese comic publishers had only imported Blackjack as far as I know). Probably that's the recent why the game was well remembered by some generations in my country. Not all Tezuka games on the Famicom are winners though, Tetsuwan Atom is Konami's worst output on the system since it felt like something expected from Bandai rather than Konami.
Good news, this is one of those games you can inexplicably find on practically every pirate multicart and famiclone made in the last decade. (I say "inexplicably" because other expensive games like Little Samson and the Flintstones games usually get ignored) It's probably good but I never got around to playing it beyond the first couple of levels tbh 😞
I think I've vaguely heard of this one? didn't realize it was based on a Tezuka manga, though. Not surprised to hear what it goes for, perhaps I'll just stick with the ROM which does seem kinda fun honestly.

Woa, I've never actually heard of this game until now. Definitely going on my to-play list.

Wasn't this guy one of the penultimate bosses of Astro Boy: Omega Factor? (Well, that game DID play fast and loose with its Tezuka Star System, so...)
