I read the books and I saw the movie and yes, at beginning I was a little disappointed that they changed the story and they switched Emma's and Olive's peculiarities and a lot of the ages, but then, after I watched the movie more times and I analyzed it I was happy with the changes. In the movie there's a different message from the books. They are both amazing. The books are wonderful, but also the movie, even if it's different. They show different things, starting with a point in common. Miss Peregrine's books are so underrated and I think that it's one my favourite series. So entertaining and creepy, never boring and always surprising. The movie is more popular and more known and is very beautiful. So powerful, it catches perfectly the mistery and the creepiness of the books and it shows us a different way to see this story. Really beautiful, it's always a pleasure to watch it and to read the books. It feels always like home. A safe place that protects you from the boring normality and that gives you the chance to be who you really are, fearless of bad judgments. This is Miss Peregrine and I'm glad to be part of this incredible family and Fandom.
i agree! though it may seem disappointing to some people, well, thats just how it actually goes, at the end of the day it's business. they had to make sure that the movie does well (both for those who haven't and have read the book) and at the same time; because some prefer the book over the movie, increase the sales of the book. they both work hand in hand.
honestly, it created more audience for ransom riggs, which he truly deserves. movies and books are different because movies are created with a filtration system (in a sense) and it will be on the hands of a director and a whole team (mostly those who know the industry well) who has a different vision for the movie for it to do well in the movie industry.
after all, ransom riggs was involved in it's creation, and i'm happy to support him.

Read the books as well, the author was happy with the film so that's good enough for me, I only read yesterday also that there is a sequel in mind for Hollow City. 😯

I know some people give this movie insults because how different it was from the books. And I was iffy about it at first, I really liked the books. But this movie was magical. Something like this, you have to let it stand on it's own. On it's own, it is a stunning piece of cinematography.
Yes I would agree, it stand on it's own, and it's unfair that peoples minds have changed about reading the book when they have no objections to the movie.
When I was young, I have a genuine fear of this film. It gave me nightmares. Like those creatures (not the children ofc) that eat there eyes are just terrifying 😂

I got nightmares but it wasn’t from that it was from the first scene in the forest when they’re in house I couldn’t go near windows in the dark for months

For someone who LOVES the books, I’m actually pretty ok with the drastic differences, it’s quite like Burton to change things up (I.e Alice and Wonderland) I mean it is a bit drustrating but I love the movie as well!

Fiona: Can grow trees, blooms flowers and plants
Olive: Can burn anything
Claire: Has a back-mouth
Horace: He can express his dreams through a mocular, some of his dreams are prophetic but mostly about clothes
Victor: Had super Strength
Because Victor and Brownyn are siblings. That's why both of them have enhanced strength

I love the books and I am glad that they added the twins to the movie. The twins where only just a photograph in the book. I hope that they make more movies about the books because they are soo goood. I am the biggest fan!!!

I guess it's because I haven't read the book yet but I honestly don't see why people are making such a big deal out of Olive and Emma's powers being switched. Just my opinion.
i think the reason why we're sort of upset about it is that it changes the whole storyline of the series. it would be messed up & difficult for the second movie to be made (if ever there is)
nevermind Burton said that he's already thinking at a sequel wich will "skip" the storyline of the second book; he said that "changings" never scared him. But also he admitted that he doesn't know where it could be made, but it's one of the projects that he's more excited about.
I wish they didn't switch them though.
Because there's a really HUGE reason to be mad, it supposed to be Emma the one with fire and the one who made him stay, the one with an amazing temper, the one who was beside Jacob and helped him out, she made Jacob believed on himself, she was a heroine and you REALLY NEED TO READ THE BOOKS! P.S: Emma Bloom is my favorite character (at the books obviously)hope I answered your question:)

They reversed Emma and Olive around. Emma is the one who has the fire peculiar, and Olive was the one who could float. I guess reading the book before the movie is a good thing.
I knew that Emma was the fire girl!!! And Olive just seemed to fit her so well...
Claire's peculiarity was so amazing!

I just want to put this out there. I love reading books A LOT. But I don't hate on a movie just because "Ew they swapped the characters abilities" Yeah NO. You can't just judge a movie because they changed something from the book. This movie is AMAZING and it took a lot of effort to come up with something like this. I understand that opinions come in any shape and size though so ok, say what you want to say. I'm just gonna leave this here.

I can say O would be kinda okay with the switch if they’d just switched the characters and not their names. Then we could wall it off as a separate canon from the books without RUINING Emma. But. I hated the ending. I think the fight scene at that fair was pretty cool, from a theatrical point of view. But the whole thing about Jake going back to be with Emma (Olive) was cringy. EMMA is supposed to rescue HIM from being taken to a hospital after being wrongly diagnosed! And her age is supposed to have been reset. In the film the ending really bothered me. Especially since the loop logic made no sense. Sorry Burton, you’re my favourite film director but dang it you ruined loop logic. 😂

They're all so unique and the writer is so creative.
It's a book seires, they are taking the idea of someone else and they changed so many things, yes the movie is greta nd creative but I do wish it was more connected to the book. So to sum it up, the writter of the book did all of the thinking for his book and the director tore it apart. Sorry, just wanted to say.

I saw the movie before I read the books so I liked it more than I would have if I’d read the books first. The weird thing is, that passage miss peregrine narrates about Enoch seems to be directly taken from the books so I guess the filmmakers just read them and decided to change up the characters the way they did for no reason?

Omg I loved this movie
I would say that this movie is good without the books as they are different in many ways (switching Emma and olive’s peculiarities, changing the children’s age, the story line) but the books are incredible and recommend reading them but I advise to watch the movie first, as it doesn’t give many spoilers then read that books, they came out first and are better (in MY opinion)

In Ransom Riggs' book of 2nd Novel Miss Peregrine's Hollow City, Emma's peculiarity power make fire in her hand while Olive is a girl lighter than air. But in this movie the two girls switched characteristics.

I really wish that hadn't been a kids movie but instead of a real real dark movie. Not necessarily scary but it's disturbing. Would have enjoyed it more. But it's pretty good. Didn't see it all but I was somewhat impressed.
