  • How To Replace A Commercial Door Cylinder:
    We installed commercial doors throughout our office and in this video we wanted to show how to replace the cylinder after installation. This way we can use the same set of matching keys throughout all the doors and locks in the office space. As always please let us know if you have any questions or comments down below!

    So I have just bought a brand new door knob (classroom function)and when I was entering the room and re locking it I didn’t realize that I had the door knob retracted. Now it’s on the lock function and the latch is retracted but I can’t turn the key I had to remove the cylinder just to get my key back. Do you have any advise for fixing this? Thanks!

    Hi there Kevin, I recently had to change a cylinder at work on a similar lock but after locking the door I can still put pressure up or down on the handle and basically break the lock and open the door. It seems like the locking mechanism isnt holding. Any ideas? Thanks

    • @mitchellacoustical3119
      @mitchellacoustical3119  3 года назад

      So based on your description, I’m guess the tab that is on the back of the cylinder is too long or longer than the old one. This is causing the lever to not seat properly. That or you just have to press it on harder, you shouldn’t have to fight it on. My guess is that tab on the back is your issue. Double check it’s the same one and cylinder depth as well. Hope that helps.👍

    • @TheRubicon1079
      @TheRubicon1079 3 года назад

      Thank you, that was the issue. Changed out the cylinder and it worked perfect. It was definitely the tab the was causing the problem. Thanks again!@@mitchellacoustical3119

      If you have no key it needs to be picked. Chances are it's not a hard lock if you know how. Else a locksmith is going to drill it out.

    The lock that i have is a schlage key and everything in the office has kw1 keys can i put a kw1 cylinder in the lever lock and be good to go?

    Just rented this office/warehouse space which is at least 30 years old. All the commercial door handles share the same key. One of them, both inside and outside handle works, but the key turns 360 degrees and does nothing. Another one, the outside handle (the key side) just sits almost at 6 0'clock but still can turn additional 15 degrees to unlock the door. What do you think the problems are? Also, can you use a different key cylinder other than the same brand as your locker?
    Thank you so much.

    • @mitchellacoustical3119

      Did you use the pin to pop off the lever/Handle as well along with turning the cylinder? This is a pretty typical setup for rekeying a lock set.
      Try turning the key different degrees along with that pin in the handle. Could be 90-120,135 you may hear a little ‘pop’ when you get in the groove you need to.
      Hope this helps👍

    Where and how did you get the new cylinder to match the existing master key?

    • @mitchellacoustical3119
      @mitchellacoustical3119  3 года назад

      You’d go to a door hardware company. They’re all over the place. I don’t think a big box retailer would have them. Then you’d have to let them know what kind/model you have. Would probably be best to bring in the door set.

    • @andytane4406
      @andytane4406 2 года назад +1

      Hi Jeff, If you need your cylinder to match an existing master key, you need to take the cylinder that you purchased, and the Master Key to a Locksmith. (or just buy the cylinder from a locksmith) They will add the internal pins (wafers) to allow the Master key to also open the cylinder. Just make sure that you don't mess up the building Master Keying Plan by adding an undocumented Operating key to mix. Contact your premises management team to ensure that the new key doesn't match another existing operating key, and to have your new key recorded in the building Master Key plan. They also may have a preferred locksmith who knows the Master Key plan, and can pin up the Cylinder so it doesn't cause security problems in the future.

      I had this problem at first. Make sure the cylindrical silver piece is not upside down. To try and be more precise it is the side of the door with the key because the other side can not be upside down. Also to be more precise it is the silver piece on the inside, not the silver cover. The knob will fit in it perfectly if you turn your key 45 degrees. Otherwise it probably is that the guts are broken.
