The thing about allulose that kills the competition for me is that it tastes just like sugar and it behaves like sugar in baking. How you compare with that?
Does it taste better than Erythritol or Sucralose?
@@theancientsancients1769 yes it does. I have experimented with all forms of sugar subs and whatnot and allulose has the best test next to monk fruit. Allulose is the only one that cooks fully like sugar does and caramelized at high heat.
I have been baking with sugar substitutes for a few years and have found that allulose is my absolute favorite. Not only does it taste similar to sugar but it supposedly competes for the same sugar transporter so maybe some of the real sugar isn’t making its way into our bloodstream if we are also using allulose? I know the studies aren’t showing enough data to make us 100% sure that it is helping blunt the effects of table sugar, but I’m convinced enough that I will be using allulose over any other sugar substitute, since the other ones like erythritol or monk fruit aren’t giving us the same positive effects (as far as I know). Thank you for the video! Hopefully we will come into more information on this in the future 😊
First of all its way too expensive.
Secondly eating sweets is the problem no matter what sweeteners you use if you're having trouble losing weight.
Most definitely it does! I but choczero chocolate products and when I first started eating them I never paid attention to what allulose was but they tasted just as good if not better than regular chocolate candy! But recently I started wondering what these companies are using as their low carb products that include sweeteners haven’t made my stomach feel a little bubbly like stevia and erythritol do sometimes so I did some checking and found a lot of them are now using allulose! I’m still losing fat but still able to eat some sweet stuff without feeling deprived and allulose tastes just like sugar! It’s so strange but lovely!
Masterful storytelling with an elegant scaffolding of scientific studies. Great team, great doctor.
We need to know the impact of the allulose for the body in term of cancer
It’s maybe be a little to soon but that’s really needed (because some edulcorant like stevia are cancerigene)
That has got to be the best narration I have ever had the pleasure of listening to whom ever this gentleman is awesome I was thoroughly informed but not only that I Was extremely entertained and his wit did not go unnoticed thank you so much I wish everything I listened to was narrated by this gentleman whoever you are kudos to you thank you for making my day I appreciate you so much again thank you
That is AI. You actually like how that sounds? 😬
@@mauricericher3816 It’s not AI. It’s Dr. Greger’s voice! Check out his lectures and livestreams, for crying out loud!
Allulose is one tool I use in addition to adherence to a Mediterranean diet and exercise. I use allulose in advance of fruit consumption. As one study suggested, the burning of carbs first is fine by me as my carb consumption is limited to 25 grams daily. After I burn through carbs, utilization of fat stores has been my focus as I am fat adapted through my diet and two meals a day. I’ve lost 90 pounds and kept it off for two years - with normal ranges for triglycerides, liver enzymes, lipids, fasting glucose and fasting insulin. HbA1c dropped from 6.3 to 5.1. My diet includes healthy nuts, healthy seeds, cruciferous vegetables, cheese, low sugar yogurt, and, yes, animal proteins including salmon, cod, skipjack tuna, sardines and grass fed beef.
Non fruit parts of plants dont want to be eaten, specially seeds, just saying..
I've heard of Allulose before but I never paid too much attention to it, guess I didn't expect something so ultra processed could ever be healthy, but it seems this is an exception.
It tastes like sugar. It's insane how nice it is.
It's popular in the keto diet cult
@@samiryan214 I randomly started dipping my toe into the keto cult about 2 months ago after a lifetime of eating the standard American diet with very little thought about health consequences.
My goal wasn’t to lose weight, but I went from 190 to 162 in that time without ever feeling like I was depriving myself of food. In fact i forget to eat a lot. My chronic bloating and acid reflux are 100% gone. I sleep better and have more energy and focus.
The only carb I ever find myself craving are fruits which I’ll weigh and eat if I want. Iv been able to drop refined sugars cold turkey and honestly never crave them so I’ve barley touched them, but I bought all the highly recommended sugar substitutes just in case.
I did some recipe trials for brownies, cookies and muffins, and yeah, allulose looks, tastes, and behaves much more like sugar than the other options. It’s also way better for making pancake syrup because it doesn’t crystallize like the erythritol does. That’s all I’ve tried so far.
@@juansmithe9988 Do whatever works for you
@@juansmithe9988 Great story! But transitioning from a Standard American Diet to almost any other diet would be beneficial.
For those persons who want to have a Sweet taste and definitely less calories I would rather try the sugar as I would use any sugar if I was going to have it very sparingly
Thanks

I forgot how good this meta-analysis can be. For some reason I don't get this in my feeds, damn algo!
I wish there were short versions of these videos that just gave the conclusion. It's a bit much for me, especially with thousands of videos.
Keep up the great work. ❤️
It is agaisnt the whole point to conclude without shoving the studies
@@jonnenne right but much of the video was about mice. I just mean getting to the more practical stuff more quickly.

nice video
My favorite vegan sour gummys (Lily's) have allulose as the main ingredient. They taste most similar to non vegan gummies I remember and are half the calories for a serving.
What side affects have shown up?
Thanks, Michael
From what I understand, eating a portion of berries has the same effect. I would rather eat blueberries, thanks!
But you can’t use blueberries in things like coffee 😂
@@simplysarah0310 um.... maple syrup has some antioxidants
Allulose is much lower in calories than maple syrup and it doesn't cause a high glycemic response like maple syrup does @@annieesther8405
@annieesther8405 ok, and? That's not what he said. Syrups aren't no or low calorie. Also, Baking. Also, other drinks. Etc
@@nomdeguerre8464 I didn't say it was no or low calorie. I offered the first item that came to mind that works in coffee and has at least something that makes it less health damaging than refined sugar. Perhaps you didn't understand the message hidden between the lines.
If you really want to bake something sweet then dates already works great. Even if this rare sugar worked great I don't see how it would change much
Dates raise your blood sugar fast, and they're fattening, unless you can control the number of dates you're eating, which was hard for me.
That is just literal sugar
Dates would raise blood sugar, plus some of us do much better without any fiber. Not to mention some of us don't consume plants of any kind.
Dates have very little allulose but a huge amount of fructose which spikes glucose

Should pin this message. I didn't see it.
Given your video about bananas and smoothies what about dates? Is the polyphenol antioxidant content contained and dates itself also not bio available/absorbed because it is brown? Brown as in not a fresh yellow with a crunch like an apple which it usually looks like for the first one or two weeks. And therefore, does this mean that it would also blunt the availability of other polyphenol, antioxidants, when combined to smoothies or eat together with a meal like oatmeal?
I don't understand why more people don't sweeten drinks, etc., with powdered glycine. Never causes bloating. Tastes very good. Has other nutritional benefits.
Dr. Greger l agree this could be a great sugar replacement. However, did you know this has been banned in several areas such as Canada and Europe due to a high risk of cancer. So being Canadian l can't get it and due to that ban l'm thinking it isn't safe enough. Lynn Seguin
Try blended banana for a sweetener.
That's not any different than eating sugar. Not to mention some of us don't eat plants of any kind.
Banana doesn't have neutral flavor, I don't see people stirring banana into their coffee any time soon. Allulose is a great option.
Looking for the video Dr Gregor made a few years ago showing higher overall death rates from plant based diets vs carnivore diets. Dr said it was due to some vitamin deficiency. Was quite interesting, forwarded it to a few people. Now it doesn’t show up…appears to have been deleted … Anyone know where to find it … ? TIA
As a carnivore I would be interested in watching that.
Carnivore diet = high cholesterol levels = atherosclerotic heart disease = 💀
@@larryc1616 Actually, no. People are reversing their CAC scores on the carnivore diet and improving their heart health.
@@HappilyCarnivore people on carnivore diet have cholesterol levels 300-500+ and missing micro/macro nutrients from fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes seeds beans, etc. Please speak to a nutritionist or registered dietitian. you're following quacks 🤡
I know the “Podcast: plant vs. animal proteins” only, available on this channel. Maybe older videos where deleted because of data obsolescence
Tried allulose, max of 4 tsp in 18 hr period. Had bad bloating and abdominal distress. Never reacted to anything else like this--not even cabbage. Sorry to say I won't be using it. I don't need to lose weight anyway.
Perhaps eliminate all fructose, refined carbs, use Stevia or mix with allulose and take Berberine.
As an herbalist I use berberine herbs such as Oregon Grape Root for only short periods of time, due to its possible negative effects for long term use.
I've never tried berberine supplements but I would assume it's the same thing
@@spiritbyesha5861 I agree about Berberine. Here is what the research shows: Continual use of berberine can impact cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes in the liver which may affect drug-to-drug interactions. Therefore, it's recommended to use it in a pulsed 8-week cycle with two to four weeks off, then starting again if symptoms have not resolved.
Stevia is cancerigene
Keto Connect on YT says avoid Allulose, Xylitol, Maltodextrin, for myself I swish in my mouth Xylitol as it stops and may reverse cavities (Dr Ellie Phillips, dds), but it irritates my throat and animals shouldn't eat it at all.
Isn't allulose a reactive sugar like fructose? Won't it cause glycation?
Good question. Any answers found?
@@kathrynmcmorrow7170 There's this article: "Microwave glycation of soy protein isolate with rare sugar (D-allulose), fructose and glucose" by Namli, Sumnu, Oztop that is suggestive, but not much seems to be known about the issue. I wouldn't use allulose. Maybe it's a rare sugar for a good reason.
@@travisporco I thought I was in the loop but today is the first time I've ever seen it mentioned! Sounds sketchy alright: psicose??
As an aside, that
reminds me of the totally unrelated "viscose", which if you don't already know, is a synthetic fabric like rayon. That was discovered to be extremely unhealthy for the workers exposed to that manufacturing process.
I don't like the feeling after eating most sugar substitutes. It's not so much the different sweet reception on the taste buds, but often I noticed an icky hollow hangover feeling coming on several hours afterwards.
@@kathrynmcmorrow7170 thanks for the thoughts!
👍👍
Does it impact testosterone like stevia?
💜
Still not available in much of the world
How does Allulose taste?
About 70% sweetness of sugar. Pretty good in my opinion.
@@xfactor3000 Better than Erythritol or Sucralose?
@@theancientsancients1769 Way healthier than Sucralose and better than Erythritol because it doesn't have a cooling effect.
Plus erythritol (sugar alcohols) causes digestive problems for many people.
It tastes similar to sugar, but less sweet. You know how fake sugar tends to have that feeling of missing something? This taste is not missing anything.
no
The best sweetener is eat a piece of fruit. Honestly.
That's not what a sweetener is.
So what fruit should I put in my morning tea ? Smh
Fruit has calories though. We're also talking about beverages not food.
@@mizz308 stop looking at tea as a sweetness delivery system, i guess? A teaspoon of sugar makes it officially some tea with your sugar.
I used to think so, but I found that even sweet fruits cause acne for me. But I can use stevia and erythritol without a problem.
It's a drug that tastes sweet, in other words.
It's not even close to a drug, its a stereoisomer of d-fructose
