Aglaonema plants need more light and water than what they say. Mine grows a leaf per month and gets direct sunlight for 3 hours (from 10 am to 1pm). The only thing I don’t like that much about them is that when they flower, they give like 5 flowers at least at the same time! So they are blooming for three months and no new leaf

I’m very new to Anthurium having only 2 currently but I really love those luxurians leaves. Would you recommend this cross to a newbie like myself? I already have a pedatum and a vittarifolium and they’re growing very well in my conditions under grow lights.

These are so beautiful plants ❤ I love the Pipers, they are definitely on my to buy list. As for the Piper ribesiodes: it is a shingling plant. It grows so beautifully on planks. My favorite shop in my country (Germany) is a jungly shop run by three biologists. I found the ribesiodes on their side, they always give a lot of information on the plants (and I respect every shop that says: don't buy the Anthurium regale, unless you are a freak who has a grow tent, adjust your temperatures constantly and invest in growing light" 😂) As for Aglaonemas: I have mine in a west-facing window, but it is slightly obscured by buildings. Still it is enough light to get slight sunburn. I let it dry out completely and it's doing fine. I mostly forget about it. And it grows like crazy and it pups every year or so.
Hi Memo, really cool new plants. I hear from everyone that A. luxurians x radicans is a fast grower and lovely to grow. I love Soil Ninja mixes. I discovered them thanks to you :-) I have all my anthuriums in their Anthurium mix and they love it. Ever since I switched to Soil Ninja´s anthurium mix my A. clarinervium, it stopped going to dormany in winter and no longer struggles in winter (it had really tought time every winter here in the Czech Rep.). I also switched my hoya into their anthurium mix - after years of not growing much, she finally started growing super fast (I already had to increase her pot size) and is making a peduncle now. So all my hoyas are going to grow in it too :-) Colourful aglaonema: I have only two - Red Zircon (pinkish) and White Joy (as white as it can be). I tested different growing media (incl. pon) over last years, and I find the Soil Ninja´s monstera and philodendron works definitely the best. For me, they grow best in more light (around 4 000 lux), chunky airy mix, and letting them dry out like a monstera deliciosa or adansonii - sensitive to overwatering and moisture-retentive mix. Colourful aglaonemas are very collectible - we certainly need to get more of them 😀 I recommend checking: Aglaonema anyamanee Tricolor, Pride of Sumatra and Academe - hard to find, but one day I need to get them 😀
I have many aglaonema alot of them colourful. Sat in a South facing window about 2 metres back. Fairly high humidity but in winter drops. I have them in chunky soil mix from soil ninja. I water mine about fortnightly but some are thirstier than others. I've looked at the apple fantasy and it's on my list. I find them very easy just don't fuss them. Mine grow quite quickly tbh. Maybe a leaf a month.
I have to seriously agree with your statement on the Piper and the soil situation! I have a Piper crocatum that I purchased and a 3 leaf rooted cutting (in water) literally from an antique boutique of all places! I potted it up in my aroid mix the week I got it and immediately it dropped 2 leaves the following week and then for 6 months did not do a single thing for me! 😮💨😩🤦🏻♀️ Luckily I have it in a clear pot and then Piper is literally about rootbound in it and just now pushing out 2 new leaves FINALLY! I think it would probably have been trailing all the way across my living room by now if I had just left it in water till it had more growth or something! 😂🤣 They are more stubborn but so stunning and well worth the headache to me! I find them them to be the most similar to a Cissus Discolor on care and stubbornness lol! Love love loveeee your new Pipers Memo!
I agree with the fact that colorful Aglaonema plants need more light and all my species need water frequently. The red and pink aglaonemas doubled the number of leaves in 1 year and grew nice and bushy. I grwo them close to a South facing window. Green and silvery green ones grow the fastest, at least here in Germany. They are happy 3m from a south facing window. I grow them in soil ninja houseplant mix. The plants in my office are still in the substrate they came in and are doing fine. Aglaonemas are very easy to take care for, at least from my experience. No pests what so ever, nice growth, very forgiving. But I find alocasia easy to, knowing that many people struggle with them. perhaps because am more of a over waterer. Good luck with your stunning looking species. Never found one like this over here.

I’ve got a bumper sticker on my car that’s placed upside down, that says “Stay weird” it’s important to embrace it!! ❤❤❤😂😂😂 I too get plants before I have a place for them, I find it a fun challenge to find spot lol I definitely overwatered my bright coloured Agleonema, I’ll try again I’ve hear recently that when an aroid produces its inflorescence, leave it there, it won’t necessarily give you new leaves if you chop it, it’s a part of its hormonal cycle, that it may produce more flowers if chopped, that happens with my Alocasia, I don’t get new leaves, I got 2 more inflos
I love aglaonema! I Love pink foliage plants aglaonema are the greatest for pink foliage imo. I don't even keep mine under a grow light in my home. I do always pinch the flowers off, it's not worth the stall in foliage growth. You've got a real beauty there! ❤️
I have a green aglaonema that is not fussy at all and a colourful one which needs more light (east window) and more frequent watering (once a week) than the green one. It is potted up in a chunky soil mix to prevent root rot. Whereas I leave the flowers on the green aglaonema I pinch them off on the colourful one to encourage leaf growth.
Yayyyyy, I love your plant hauls because I know that the plants are always going to be interesting 😁 I love the peltigerum, but I've not managed to add one to my collection yet. It definitely gives alien vibes. The trailing piper is very cute; not one that I've heard of before either. The plant that I didn't expect to be included was the Aglaonema, but it's absolutely stunning. I have a couple of the more colourful ones, and so far, they're doing well. Along with some Hoya, a monkey tail cactus, and some ivy (for outside). I only wanted to order some soil amendments. But as you said, no self-control.

I have had aglaonema aurora siam since right before Covid. It needs a LOT of light to maintain the red leaf borders, takes forever to propagate and needs a trim every now and again to avoid bare stem at the bottom... and once you've done that, it takes an eternity to branch out. I'd have binned this plant ages ago if it hadn't been gifted to me by my mom. I use systemic granules so no pest pressure but it's an underwhelming plant.
What a beautiful aglaonema! I have a very similar one, the Salmon Fantasy, and it loves light. I had some issues when I had it in plastic with root rot so I changed it to terracotta and now it grows beautifully and really fast.

Question: (after explaining) For a lot of plants I tend to leave the yellowing leaves on ever since I heard that the plant is using the nutrients from them until it browns and crisps. However I also hear many people say that the yellowing leaf is taking up energy. Does this differ for different plant genera? Not all pipers need a terrarium, not even all fancy ones 😊 I guess it is a matter of trial and error? Some seem appreciate warmth more than humidity. Colourful Aglaonema…. Im terrible with them 😅 The only thing that seems to work most of the time is cramming it in a tiny pot (in soil mix) in a cabinet (lowest ever in there is 60% humidity) and watering it when it is almost dry (or else they rot on me). Rerooting takes for-e-ver not to even start about growing again after rerooting. I have one in pon, it sort of likes it, lovely roots but not much growth (in like months)… Currently experimenting with them by putting some in tree fern fibre, we shall see… Still love them though, such great colours 😍 Id suggest the Calathea over the Aglaonema and tell them to set alarms to check if it needs water twice a week 💧 I feel like a Calathea can be kept alive with care, but an Aglaonema will throw a fit eventually no matter what you do
Great insights! 🌿 Leaving yellowing leaves on or removing them can depend on the plant. Trial and error is key, I found for my Alocasia, its best to remove, sometimes with Anthuriums I let them stay if there is no issue like rot. Thanks for all the detailed tips! 🌟
I have 10 colorful aglaonema, two green and white ones (Spring Snow and White Pearl), and Golden Bay. The only one that I have had issues with is Ag Pink Princess. I think I was over watering her, so I am being more careful about that. Otherwise, I just grow them in ambient conditions, not a ton of light, and water when dry. I would err on the side of less light than more. You can always move her to a brighter spot if you don't think it is working for her.

Peltigerum! 😍 Got mine at the beginning of April and it has by now lost ALL its roots for some reason. Weirdly, it still has all its leaves? Rehabbing in water currently so I am looking forward to your updates... Also, the moment you started describing problems with colourful varieties of the plant, I pictured the Aglaonema that I've killed multiples of! Will it be an Aglaonema that's in there? Of course it iiiiiis 🤣 It's the one plant that I cannot for the life of me figure out! Killed multiple varieties in different substrates (stem rot at soil level), one single variety has had no problems and even that one I do not understand (looks similar to yours, but is named cinta). It doesn't grow new roots, has never needed a repot in 3 years that I've had it, and yet, it somehow keeps growing new leaves? A greener variety called matcha lemon is one that I've managed to bring back to life with water propagation and is now happy in pon, but that took AGES to root (I even bought a second one as backup in the mean time, which has also died from stem rot before the first rescue grew roots😅). I am now experimenting with tree fern fiber for a newly bought lemon variety and so far it seems to be going well! Will try growing the pink one in a similar mix if I ever gather the courage to try propagating it. Never imagined that plants deemed finicky would be a breeze to grow, while a supposedly easiest species ended up being the one to cause the most problems.

Aglaonema grow relatively fast for me (under growlights), but the one colourful one I have does not have a nice growing pattern, the older leaves gradually fall off and it looks unpleasantly stemmy. I chopped the tips off and tried to root them to make it fuller, but they took absolutely ages and I lost patience and threw them away (and for what it's worth, I'm usually patient). Fortunately aglaonemas pup, so I now have a pot of small aglaonema puppies, until they grow leggy again.
I have let the dry out between watering near a plant light or near a window not direct light 😅 have mine 😅n larger pot with several together which very pretty the are doing awesome.
Being in Alberta Canada and giving more light to my silver bay but not direct light(tried sunrise but even that was too much) but I definitely find mine keeps throwing out new leaves like crazy. My Polly alocasia is slower but that cause be cause I’m still figuring her out… I really want to get a colourful aglonema can’t wait to get my hands on one, ❤ thanks for the updates

Don’t do well with Aglaonema. They linger for a really long time though. 🤣. Aglaonema and Calathea are both on my no buy list. I have Anthurium Luxurians and have no trouble with it. It just chugs along fine. One of my favorites.
I sure don't think it's a big "no-no" to get a new plant potted up in a trusted substrate. I've seen too many die back while I waited for them to "acclimate to my conditions." But there's lots of "good" advice I ignore now 😁

My aglaonema (red zirkon) has been on a southeast facing windowsill for about 5 months now and grown all of....one new leaf. And no extra hight. Its pretty much doing nothing 🥴🤧😭😅

Im from the Philippines and love aglaos. They.have ramen roots and very prone to rot. So I just water them when dry. I pinch the blooms.

I have trouble too with the more colorful aglos, do well with the green versions. Really, really want a Lux x radicans.

For a lot of plants I tend to leave the yellowing leaves on ever since I heard that the plant is using the nutrients from them until it browns and crisps.
However I also hear many people say that the yellowing leaf is taking up energy.
Does this differ for different plant genera?

I guess it is a matter of trial and error? Some seem appreciate warmth more than humidity.
Colourful Aglaonema…. Im terrible with them 😅
The only thing that seems to work most of the time is cramming it in a tiny pot (in soil mix) in a cabinet (lowest ever in there is 60% humidity) and watering it when it is almost dry (or else they rot on me). Rerooting takes for-e-ver not to even start about growing again after rerooting.
I have one in pon, it sort of likes it, lovely roots but not much growth (in like months)…
Currently experimenting with them by putting some in tree fern fibre, we shall see…
Still love them though, such great colours 😍
Id suggest the Calathea over the Aglaonema and tell them to set alarms to check if it needs water twice a week 💧
I feel like a Calathea can be kept alive with care, but an Aglaonema will throw a fit eventually no matter what you do

Great insights! 🌿 Leaving yellowing leaves on or removing them can depend on the plant. Trial and error is key, I found for my Alocasia, its best to remove, sometimes with Anthuriums I let them stay if there is no issue like rot. Thanks for all the detailed tips! 🌟

I have 10 colorful aglaonema, two green and white ones (Spring Snow and White Pearl), and Golden Bay. The only one that I have had issues with is Ag Pink Princess. I think I was over watering her, so I am being more careful about that. Otherwise, I just grow them in ambient conditions, not a ton of light, and water when dry. I would err on the side of less light than more. You can always move her to a brighter spot if you don't think it is working for her.

Peltigerum! 😍 Got mine at the beginning of April and it has by now lost ALL its roots for some reason. Weirdly, it still has all its leaves? Rehabbing in water currently so I am looking forward to your updates... Also, the moment you started describing problems with colourful varieties of the plant, I pictured the Aglaonema that I've killed multiples of! Will it be an Aglaonema that's in there? Of course it iiiiiis 🤣 It's the one plant that I cannot for the life of me figure out! Killed multiple varieties in different substrates (stem rot at soil level), one single variety has had no problems and even that one I do not understand (looks similar to yours, but is named cinta). It doesn't grow new roots, has never needed a repot in 3 years that I've had it, and yet, it somehow keeps growing new leaves? A greener variety called matcha lemon is one that I've managed to bring back to life with water propagation and is now happy in pon, but that took AGES to root (I even bought a second one as backup in the mean time, which has also died from stem rot before the first rescue grew roots😅). I am now experimenting with tree fern fiber for a newly bought lemon variety and so far it seems to be going well! Will try growing the pink one in a similar mix if I ever gather the courage to try propagating it. Never imagined that plants deemed finicky would be a breeze to grow, while a supposedly easiest species ended up being the one to cause the most problems.

Aglaonema grow relatively fast for me (under growlights), but the one colourful one I have does not have a nice growing pattern, the older leaves gradually fall off and it looks unpleasantly stemmy. I chopped the tips off and tried to root them to make it fuller, but they took absolutely ages and I lost patience and threw them away (and for what it's worth, I'm usually patient).
Fortunately aglaonemas pup, so I now have a pot of small aglaonema puppies, until they grow leggy again.

I have let the dry out between watering near a plant light or near a window not direct light 😅 have mine 😅n larger pot with several together which very pretty the are doing awesome.

Being in Alberta Canada and giving more light to my silver bay but not direct light(tried sunrise but even that was too much) but I definitely find mine keeps throwing out new leaves like crazy. My Polly alocasia is slower but that cause be cause I’m still figuring her out… I really want to get a colourful aglonema can’t wait to get my hands on one, ❤ thanks for the updates

Don’t do well with Aglaonema. They linger for a really long time though. 🤣. Aglaonema and Calathea are both on my no buy list. I have Anthurium Luxurians and have no trouble with it. It just chugs along fine. One of my favorites.

I sure don't think it's a big "no-no" to get a new plant potted up in a trusted substrate. I've seen too many die back while I waited for them to "acclimate to my conditions." But there's lots of "good" advice I ignore now 😁

My aglaonema (red zirkon) has been on a southeast facing windowsill for about 5 months now and grown all of....one new leaf. And no extra hight. Its pretty much doing nothing 🥴🤧😭😅
My colorful aglaonema doesn’t like too much light I have mine with my green sit side by side each other and mine are in pon
