Welcome to BookTube. Listening to audiobooks counts as reading a book to me. But most of my reading is physical books.

Hello, Mikal! Welcome to BookTube! I’m glad you’re here. (I’ve only been at this for about three months, so I’m pretty new too.) I love James McBride too, and Toni Morrison is one of my favorite authors of all time! I’m a recently retired English teacher, and it does my heart good to hear someone say he’s just discovered the love of reading. Good for you! There’s no stopping you now. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos! Welcome!

    Welcome Mikal!
I have really loved every book and author you’ve mentioned.
When I read James McBride’s book, “The Color of Water”, back in 1995, I immediately knew I would read anything he would ultimately write after that, and thankfully, I have. 😊 Love him.
I feel like Toni Morrison is in a class by herself, every book making you feel something deep…
sadness, anger, rage, pity, joy…and all expressed in her quotable, prose style.
I found Ta-Nehisi Coates books to be touching, eloquent, and brutally honest. He educated me about experiences I knew nothing about, and left me thinking about them long after putting the book down.
(I have felt that way about Isabel Wilkerson’s books, as well. So well written, so educational, so memorable.)
Looking forward to your thoughts on what you read, and what you’ve learned and enjoyed from the books and authors that you choose to share with us.

Audiobooks feel entirely different to me than reading physically. Especially in terms of memory: audiobooks drift in and out of my mind with less solidity than reading books does. I like having full control of my pace while reading; with audio I'm trapped by the pace of the speaker. Holding a book-the literal act of flipping through pages-becomes like travelling through a physical space, with landmarks for remembrance to attach to (I'm sure you know that feeling of knowing the spot in the book where a major scene occurs). Audiobooks can't offer that same hike through folds of print.
Welcome to BookTube! There's freedom in starting small. You can do videos on whatever you want in whatever way you want without an audience clinging too tight with expectations. Embrace that freedom a while and experiment. You have a pleasant, relaxed presence. Keep it up!

Welcome. I read and listen to audio books and count them all. I use audio books only when I exercise as a way to reward myself to do it.

Yes, I have just started on RUclips also. You are right, the tech stuff is scary, daunting even, but hopefully we can muddle through. I love your cool soundtrack. I haven't experimented with musical backgrounds yet. Maybe you've inspired me. I look forward to following your new adventure with books, & old passion for vinyl. Thanks for the inspiration.

Welcome to booktube 😊 Recently got back into reading, used to read more when I was younger but fell off it. No bad time to get into it, hope it will bring you a lot of joy 😊 Looking forward to seeing more from you.

I'll never forget the first time I read Ralph Ellison's 'Invisible Man'. I must read some Toni Morrison, thanks for the prod.

Hey Mikal! Welcome to booktube. I’m glad to see you here! That’s so cool that you talk vinyl and books. I haven’t seen that combo before. Yes, audiobooks count. I like to do both at the the same time. I switch between the two. James McBride is fantastic. I really liked Heaven & Earth. Based on some of the authors you mentioned, I’d recommend Colson Whitehead, Tochi Onyebuchi, James Baldwin, P Djeli Clark, and Tananrive Due, if you haven’t checked out some of their books. I’ve subscribed and look forward to seeing more of your videos soon!

Hey welcome to BookTube! Even though I never listened to a record on a record player before I'm glad the format is making a comeback. I'm an avid horror book and manga reader however, I'm open to other genres as well. 🙂❤📚

I do count audio books, but I don't view it the same as reading physical books. I feel like I absorb the story or information differently. I prefer physical reading and also collecting and displaying my books 🙂
