  • Ernst Prost is a rarity among businessmen. He openly promises that,if times got tough,he would sell his castle before laying off his employees. He says his 450 co-entrepreneurs are responsible for his company's success.Prost's firm Liqui-Moly produces car-care products like lube oils and additives. It has a turnover of more than 230 million euros a year -- in spite of the economic crisis and the pressure from larger competitors like Esso and Shell. Ernst Prost may be successful,but he certainly doesn't mince his words. He's taken out ads saying that the current economic crisis was sparked by power,greed and fear,and that those aren't qualities businesspeople should aspire to. Reporter Marion Hütter paid a visit to Liqui-Moly and spoke with the firm's employees about their unusual boss.

    Interestingly enough the German constitution (Grundgesetz) has the article §14 which secures the rights of ownership.
    But paragraph 2 also states something which even many Germans forget:
    "(2) Eigentum verpflichtet. Sein Gebrauch soll zugleich dem Wohle der Allgemeinheit dienen." lit. "Ownership obligates [you as the owner]. Ownership should at the same time be used for the welfare of the whole of society."
    Prost obviously took that to heart (consciously or unconsciously). Thumbs up for him.

    I can't believe it! A philanthropic, altruistic boss. Liqui-Moly must receive zillions of resumes/CVs.

    I surely wish I had worked for people such as Mr. Prost throughout my working life. The stockholders want high gains all of the time. If that doesn't happen, they put their money elsewhere. So these CEOs will do whatever it takes to try and sustain those returns.

    @romanoswestwood
    he said it jokingly. Some British comedian once said that he finally got German humour when he realized that much of it is subtle stating of fact, not over the top exaggeration.

    Hearing this I can only say that it is not us germans that make our language sound hard to Americans its the Americans that speak German in this strange way.

    This is one reason i switched my Mercedes to LM from M1. I prefer my money goes to a company with values. XOM is a huge greedy corporation and has lowered quality since SN came out.

    If people think the Germans are moaners , they are nothing compared to the U.K, there is a reason why they are called with whining Poms.

    There is to say: Not every german company has such an awesome policy. Many have no qualms in going only for profit. I think as long as your buisness is profitable, jobs should be protected always. Such a paragon this man.

    Imagine doing repetitive work every day, and then learning if you wouldn't be there, a machine would do this job being more efficient and profitable. Doesn't that feel just pointless?
