  • Hi! I bring you educational information on World Scout Flag (WOSM)
    on my Scouting Resources…
    First Scout Emblem
In the first edition of Scouting for Boys (1908) Baden-Powell
referred to the Scout’s Badge as an arrow head.
    Emblem Evolution
These pictures show three stages of the symbols evolutions as used on the
Scout Tenderfoot Badge from 1908, 1909 and 1927.
The symbol kept evolving with subtle changes to the shape and in 1927 the
    words Boy Scouts were added.
J.S. Wilson introduced an international Scout Badge in 1939-a silver fleur-de-lis on a purple background surrounded by the names of the five continents in silver within a circular frame. The wearing of it was not universal, but was confined to past and then present members of the International Committee and staff of the Bureau. A flag of similar design followed, the flying of which was restricted to international Scout gatherings.
The current emblem design was introduced at the 8th World Scout Jamboree in 1955 by former Boy Scouts of Greece National Commissioner Demetrios Alexatos. The final design which is now worn on the uniforms of Scouts around the world includes a rope which encircles the fleur-de-lis and is tied in a reef knot at the bottom of the badge.
    World Scout Badge -
As Scouting spread around the world countries created their own versions of the Scout symbol
sometimes adding to the design to make it unique to their country. In 1972 the World Membership Badge was introduced for all National Scout Organisations which belonged to WOSM the World Organisation of the Scout Movement.
In Nepal it is presented to new members when they get investiture as a membership badge to be worn on the middle portion of the Left Pocket.

    IMPORTANT NOTES
The flag represents the World Organization of Scouting Movement (WOSM), headquartered in Switzerland.
The flag represents all member organizations of the WOSM.
The flag is taken from the fleur-de-lis, or lily of the flower, this information is given by Lord Baden Powell and found as part of
the Scout emblem of every other nation’s Scouting organization.
The ten points of the two stars on the flag stands for the Ten parts of Scout Law.
But in some countries the ten parts have been customize to 7 & 9 parts of a Scout Law.
The two ends of the rope are tied at the bottom in the reef knot, which is the most useful of all rope knots if tied properly and reminds all of our obligations to be of service to one another as well as to be useful.
