Hey just a warning. Don’t repeat sit so much :) let your puppy figure out what the word means first, once they drop their bottom then reward them. If you say sit too much it’ll only confuse your puppy and in the future, you will have to repeat sit a few times before they actually sit because that’s what they were taught as a puppy. In this particular case you would have to say sit twice before your dog understands what you mean. It can cause stubbornness in the future. Your dog will think “I didn’t have to sit when they said it the first time, so I’ll wait till they say it a few more times.”
@•Trick or treat month• Sundrop I have a cat and he’s not mean he loves me always jumping on me for massages but he slaps the shit out of my dog with his claw
For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕
Today I used this on my dog that isn't trained and in the same day he pretty much got it down . Any time I do the motion he sits with no problem . Thank you really helpful video
This actually isn't a very good technique. My grandfather trained police dogs and his technique for training a dog to sit is to always just use your hand to push their butt down (firmly enough so that they're forced to sit) and say the word "sit" at the same time. The dog will then eventually learn what sit means as long as you do this frequently. My grandfather also said that you must always say the name of the dog before the command so that they learn their name too. So for you, you would say "Thor, sit!" and then later on you would do things like "Thor, roll over", "Thor, come!", etc. But you can never EVER repeat the command twice or more. Then "sit" just becomes a word not a command.
@@coffeeee237 Okay, this one is actually quite simple. Whenever you're playing with your dog and they start biting at you, simply wrap your hands around their snout and say a firm "NO". Hold their snout for about 10 seconds and then let go. If they try biting you again, just repeat the steps. Eventually, they'll learn that that is what happens when they try biting you and they won't do it anymore. Just make sure you're consistent about it, don't just let them get away with biting sometimes and not the other times. And reward them when they play with you and they don't bite. Like if they give you a bunch of kisses then give them a lot of praise like "Good girl/boy/dog! Very good girl/boy/dog!". Hope this was helpful :)
I’m taking care of 2 dogs for about 3 months and they’re both completely untrained, I’m not sure if the owners ever even tried to teach them anything. One of them is 7 years old and the others 3, I’m prepared to teach them the basics no matter how long it takes :)
How'd it go? My dog is 9 and I've been trying for an hour. In general, he's not a very smart dog. He keeps backing up, jumping and just chasing my hand around and I don't exactly know what to do. I'm not sure if it's because he's older or not so I just want to ask you.
@@sillqe7780 I heard that trying for a long period of time isn’t the best idea. Apparently it’s best to keep the lessons short! So, 5-10 minutes of training daily is ideal. I know your comment was months ago, but I still thought I’d respond. :)
@@sillqe7780 Ahh, of course! I’ve started training my dog as well, and it will be a good thing for the bonding experience. I hope it goes well for you! :)
My puppy is very hyper and whenever she smells food she gets crazy, I bought her some treats but she won’t stop sniffing my hand and wagging her tail :(
Whenever I hold the treat in front of my puppy and then proceed to move it backwards to entice him to sit, he just jumps up and falls onto his back to catch the treat.
Try to let him figure out what he needs to do by himself. This lady applies the word "sit" far too soon and doesn't give the puppy a chance to use his cognition. Hold the treat in your hand and let your dog sniff it. don't say anything, don't interfere, let him figure out how to get that treat. this requires patience but it doesn't force the sit onto the puppy. Once his behind is on the floor, he gets the treat, remember timing is crucial. once he has gotten the hang of it you can then apply the word sit. keep sessions short, 10 minutes a day if they are a puppy. dogs communicate using body language, and so your hand gesture can also be used as a cue to sit. keep the same hand gesture and you won't even have to speak sometimes.

I have a treat bag or sometime I have a bowl sitting on my side with treats and my Yorkie is so fixated on watching my hand trying to get to treats than listening to the commands, how do I get her to sit for more than a few seconds and without treats?
