My problem is my strong large 12 months chocolate Labrador retriever is he doesn’t jump up to me however to other people he is a nightmare as he thinks everyone loves him in the park or on the beach. And obviously it can be dangerous and unwelcome.

I just got a 14 week lab puppy whose never had any kind of training and these videos are helping a ton. Every morning we focus on one thing before work then every night we focus on a different thing. In the 3 days we’ve got him my wife mentioned “he’s really mellowed out” definitely good progress but a long way to go. She’s also a little pissed that the dog likes me more lmao

@@pachiramen4605lol YOU would say that 😉 I’m at home all day with our 4 month old puppy and he prefers my husband! (He works around 70 hours a weekH And I’m like 😧 bc I feed him and do all the training!
Starting this in the morning after my 1 year old CAS puppy gave me a bloody lip trying to greet me when I got home from work. Thank you for the clear and easy to follow video! These kinds of simple commands are important for any dog, but especially for large breeds!
So often trainers make videos with smart, relatively attentive dogs that are eager to learn/please. We have always had that kind of dog, so dog training came easy for us. A dear friend has recently asked me to occasionally dog sit, in my home, a dog that is so hyper, frantic really, that she seems to have zero attention span the moment the lead is released. Seems like she's on the extreme end of the bell curve for hyperactivity - too frantic to readily make connections between her behavior and consequences. It would be helpful to see trainers work this this kind of dog, one that really challenges the trainer.
that’s how my dog is, a goldendoodle whom is super hyperactive and though she is still young (about a year and a quarter) she needs to have some things fixed and i would love to see this. every time she is let off the leash she is crazy and has no attention span just like you mentioned.
hi! i recommend you watching zak georges new dog series! he is training a german shepherd that is very high energy and needs a lot of training. this may help you a little bit.
Yes - this! My first dog was pretty calm and eager to learn/listen. My new dog (same breed and breeder) is NOT calm. He's very high drive and super enthusiastic and PERSISTENT. I often feel like I am starting back at zero continually. I'll think he has gotten it but it honestly depends on the day. He's a good boy and he's MILES better at 10 1/2 months than he was at 5 months, but it's been MUCH more challenging than my first dog (who I now know was like a unicorn puppy and I wasn't actually an awesome dog trainer! lol). And he gets at least an hour of walking every single day, plus play and training sessions several times a day. It can be frustrating watching a video like this and not getting the results as quickly or for things to go backwards the next day.
Becks, i have a 6 month old golden retriever as well. Please! Please! Please! For the love of your bank account. Do not let emmet around your socks. Use anything but socks. My golden Frank, swallowed 3 socks 2 months ago and it was a $6,500 surgery to have them removed. I can nit stress this enough. Do not let your dog play with socks. Choose another toy to train him.
I love your videos, I got a lab recently and she’s 10 months old with so much energy. And you’re videos helped me to get her to stop jumping on everybody that comes over
Our 11 month old puppy came with this issue. She’s a Jamaican Labrador terrier mix and she’s gorgeous but her claws are sharp. And she’s quite tall when she’s on her hind legs. I’ve only had her a week and a half she’s a rescue. I’m looking forward to being her forever mummy and Moe Moe being in our family. We also have a rescue cat who I’m surprised she gets on with so far. I do keep her on the lead in the house. After not having a dog for many years I only had one previously… she was a King Charles Cavalier. So chilled out. It was a big change I know I can do this and so can my family members. Our puppy is quite chilled generally. She’s very good otherwise and is a quick learner. I look forward to trying this technique with little Moe. I’m a new subscriber. Thanks for this appreciate it.

This is an excellent question and something I have struggled with for the last 10yrs. My pitbull the sweetest most loving, silly, happy dog in the world... She seems to know that I'm the boss and is good with me, she listens to my kids for the most part but not super consistently. She's really bad with her dad tho and he actually encourages the crazy energy ... like her level of excitement equates her love for him. It's very frustrating, especially if Ive been working a lot and other family members are having more time with her, I come back to a dog that's not so great at listening anymore and I feel like I'm starting all over again.
Great video! I have an almost 5 month old and jumping on people is our biggest problem ( counter surfing too). We’ve had her in classes since she was 9 weeks old but have yet to see this advice. Love it, will start right away. Thank you!

That dog is an angel. My six month old puppy is strong and nothing really works. It's depressing. My neighbors avoid us and talk amongst themselves that I can't control my dog.
Your dog's an angel too- just has a different temperment/energy level and different training experiences. There are totally things you can do but you're probably needing help from a pro trainer. Pls don't give up. (I'm a beginning professional dog-trainer 😊).
I’m going to try this training with my 1 year old Cocker Spaniel who we adopted. We’ve had him for nearly a year and he came to us with bad habits/no training. We are trying everything from commands/high value reward training/turning our back on him when he jumps and a couple of others things. But not getting very far because he’s so excitable and starts jumping again. The children in our road love Max but he is so powerful he can knock a child over and I don’t want children to be fearful of Max because he’s so sweet and loving. I’ve not tried the long line and stepping on the lead to prevent the jumping etc, so I’m going to try this tomorrow in my back garden because it’s getting late now (8.40pm in the uk 🇬🇧) so fingers crossed and wish us good luck 🤞 Thank you fir your video 😃
I use lots of treats when training my 9 1/2 month golden retriever. She's very food driven so it makes it way easier to get her to follow commands. I've trained a Belgium Sheepdog through the local parks and rec classes without treats but that was 25 years ago. Training techniques for dogs has changed. It's all treats and praises/positive reinforcement. I really love this type of training as opposed to telling the dog what they shouldn't be doing all the time. Instead tell them what you want them to do. It's great.🐶
We just adopted a very excited 5-month old lab/retriever, and he has a tendency of jumping on people because he’s just so happy to see them lol. I’m on day two of trying this and can I say that it has worked wonders?? He’s a big boy so every time he would jump on us we would nudge him down, but that wouldn’t stop him until I tried this video’s method. Now even on walks whenever I say, “down”, he stops and sits. Only on day two and it takes one try of him jumping on me to not do it again repeatedly like he would. Excited to see where these videos take us. Thank you!
Thank you for these tips. I just adopted a puppy and I've been having issues with her jumping not only on me, but more often, other people. I really think these will help her (Dahlia) learn that jumping in inappropriate! She is incredibly intelligent and has already learned many other commands...she just is sticky still about jumping.
@@hadassahjoseph9877 it did a little bit but I ended up buying a training collar with a beeping feature and it helped. It has a vibrate/shock feature but for distracting her to teach her not to jump the beeping worked wonders.
I just stumbled on your videos.. Thank you for making these. I have a reactive dog I rescued. I have focused so hard on the leash reactivity, I forgot about manners. He jumps on people when they come over. He is just so happy now that he discovered humans aren't so bad.
I actually love that my dog jumps on me and roughhouses with me. She just can't keep jumping on my guests though lol. We'll definitely be working on this.
I was ok with it when he was little but he gains about 5 lbs a month now 8 months at 55 lbs it's not that much fun! It really intimates my friends, so it's a real issue now. He's a very strong, stubborn guy! I wish I had thought of these videos sooner, he thinks he's in control and it's a real issue for me. So be careful!
I agree! I actually like that my pooch gets excited to see me and jumps but my guests do NOT! Especially the children and the elderly people. We may have to give up our joy to have people want to visit our houses LOL.
That's a new idea! I have never thought of stepping on the leash. My dog gets crazy excited everytime she sees my mom and we have tried every technique. Next time we will get her to stand on the leash and see what happens.
I have a husky that's happy to see anyone. She's like the Mayer, except she's honest. Every time we walk she breaks down another miserable soul a lil closer to being human. Their stiff posture loosens up just a bit everytime she looks at them like they were the next coming of the lord till eventually just after they soften enough to pet her she's on them like a cheap suit if that suit also covered their face. She does in a few minutes accumulatively what a shrink can only dream of doing in a life time. She reduces the hardest. krankiest bastards I've ever seen into a baby talk pile a mush. She is my gift to humanity. So no thank's Mr. Trainer.
Big dogs are easy- had a Giant Schnauzer but our 10lbs Morkie was much more difficult to train not to jump or walk heel as she’s so close to the ground & not as easily reached to reward. I’d love to see a video with tiny dogs.
Sending you lots of positive vibes of patience, understanding, and consistency! I know this can be stressful but its so worth it so they can enjoy life 💕
Also get your dog used to not getting overexcited about bringing the leash out. Practice putting it on and off random times during the day and reward calmness with the lead on. Good luck!
Thank you guys for all the valuable advices. Could you do a video on barking ? My dog won't stop barking when someone comes to our place or if I talk to someone from the balcony or if someone is in the hallway. I tried everything but no use. Any advice ?
“Get off the cat” lol 😂 I’ve trained my cats to repel off-leash trespassers on my porch with a swift claw to the nose! But seriously, I’ve taken on the retraining of a chicken-killing Shepherd/husky rescue. He jumps up a lot.
I really liked this . My mom has a dog that is good with her, but gets excited and jumps on. Visitors. I am sure she will appreciate and execute the lessons in this very good learning video, many thanks
Jed Sanford can you clarify ignore method? My puppy has razor sharp teeth, tends to lick/bite when greeting or just in general when playing or when excited.
Great training tips 😊 my dog understands very well that he’s not allowed to jump on me but getting him to understand it with other people is WAY more difficult because he’s very excited and every person will have a different reaction to him as to wether they want to talk to him or not 😐 - besides that my next biggest issue it to get him to calm down when there’s guests cuz he gets hyped up it takes him at least an hour in their company to calm down 🫤😥
This video looks like itll be a game changer. The previous advice we got was nudge them away, and I just kinda took it as the one giving it to me has had dogs for 30+ years now. But as my girl and me get on in training I'm more and more realizing that that person just kinda... didn’t really train their dogs. And that the nudge makes it into a game makes so darn much sense but it's new info to me. Thank you so much We're gonna try this
Oh yeah, just a few minutes my butt. I did everything you said BUT the dog is also a huge factor in this. Some dogs are harder to train than others and some dogs don't listen as well as others. Don't get discouraged if this doesn't work right away! Keep going and they will eventually learn ❤️
I had dogs all my adult life. A trainer said I should try attaching my puppy lab to me by his leash. Sounds crazy but my lab Ebony, (can you guess what colour he was?) was the best behaved dog I ever had. I was a foster parent caring for a beautiful baby boy at the time. So I took Ebony almost everywhere I went, even from the living room to the kitchen as well as out in the car. He followed right by my side, never tripped over him, he paid attention. We had stairs and he was always careful, he never squeezed by me through the door. He was fine when left alone in the house on the occasions for appointments, etc. I can’t take all the credit. I think it was a combination of genetics and bonding. His parents were guide dogs for the blind. He didn’t make it because he was considered too fearful. He is gone now and if I was young enough I would do it all over again. He made me so proud.
Tried this with my dog, he learned he's faster than me and started running away and barreling at me, then run away and barrel at me. Turned into a fantastic game for him. Not so much for me given that he's 75lbs.
Yeah I hear you. I have a Doberman that jumps a lot and I don’t think this leash trick is going to work for me. He likes to jump on me right when I get out of bed because he is excited to start the day. My dog does not always have his leash on, I certainly can’t put it on while he is jumping, and according to this guy, I shouldn’t push him down either. What to do lol. I love my dog by the way, he’s just a crazy puppy
My Doberman turns 3 years old in Nov. 2021. I got him when he was 10 months old. He has learned some things pretty quick. But not pulling on the leash (especially when he is tracking a scent) and not jumping up to meet people face to face are two things he just won't learn.
Same for ours. She learned how to go outside, sit, shake, etc… all at a few months old. We CANNOT get her to stop jumping and attacking the cat and just being super crazy. She’s so wild.
How do you teach your dog to generalize "off" with other people and not just you? My dog won't jump up on me but gets SO excited when someone is at the door that she hops up and down on her back legs with her paws scratching their knees. She is too excited to respond to treats.
I've seen with other videos, if you know people are coming over and put them on a leash then as soon as they try to jump you say "uh uh" and take them.out of the room. When they calm down, bring them back. Repeat.
Same here, the other issue is people don't really listen to me about turning away from her and reactivily start petting and cooing at her when she jumps on them and ultimately end up encouraging her behavior, she gets way too tunnel visioned with her excitement about company she can't focus any mind to me and kinda the same with house guests....
I was doing that with my dog I was taking her to church and she kept getting up to play or get petted so I put the leash under my food to keep her laying and I only had to do it twice and she learned quick

I’ve not tried the long line and stepping on the lead to prevent the jumping etc, so I’m going to try this tomorrow in my back garden because it’s getting late now (8.40pm in the uk 🇬🇧) so fingers crossed and wish us good luck 🤞
Thank you fir your video 😃
Hi sue,
Did you try it? Does it work?
The best videos I have found so far!
It's great.🐶
Yes! I trained my stubborn husky with positive reinforcement and it worked :)
Did it help ?
@@hadassahjoseph9877 it did a little bit but I ended up buying a training collar with a beeping feature and it helped. It has a vibrate/shock feature but for distracting her to teach her not to jump the beeping worked wonders.
Great content: clear, to the point, and not simply marketing for paid content. 👍
Thank you so much my cane corso has a huge jumping problem
In the following process I feed my dog so many treats he can’t jump anymore 😂
Alisha, my boy put weight on too! See ‘Absolute Dogs’ where your whole dog’s feed is used ‘as treats’ for training.
Read.....’ditch-the-bowl’ ....
😹😹😹
I use dog food but he still gained some weight
Use part of the dogs meals as your treats
My puppy loves ice cubes to crunch on..... no weight gain from those! Hope your dogs like ice cubes.
This has been the most successful. Thank you so much.
I just stumbled on your videos.. Thank you for making these. I have a reactive dog I rescued. I have focused so hard on the leash reactivity, I forgot about manners. He jumps on people when they come over. He is just so happy now that he discovered humans aren't so bad.
Brilliant video, will start doing this with my puppy who gets overly excited when we're outside. Thank you
I actually love that my dog jumps on me and roughhouses with me.
Awesome video. Thank you McCann Dog Training!
That's a new idea! I have never thought of stepping on the leash. My dog gets crazy excited everytime she sees my mom and we have tried every technique. Next time we will get her to stand on the leash and see what happens.
Can't wait to try this
Will continue practicing with my puppy....thanks!!
I’ve just got a 3 month old cocker spaniel cross Belgium German shepherd so will be following you for tips and tricks thankyou
He is just soooooo happy so cute thank you for sharing it helped us with our golden girl!:)
I know! Love that puppy rompiness omg!! 💕💕💕
Trainer.
Two questions:1) how do you keep a dog from chewing on the leash? 2) how can you adapt this exercise while sitting on the couch relaxing?
Danielle Border the leave it command and redirect to something it can chew on
Dog bites leash: No
You bring treat close to leash: if he takes treat then Yes, otherwise say No again until he does
Invest in a chain/metal leash. The metal will deter the biting.
Thank, Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for making these videos they really help me
Thank you🙏
Our pleasure, we are glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting!!!
Happy Training!

Yeah my dog just tries to choke himself and just keeps jumping lmao
Mine too
So far, same 🙄
😂😂
Brilliant! Thanks.
Making my dog sit with me and watch this video on a loop lol. Hopefully she learns. 😅
Thank you Thank you Thank you. My sisters pup is jumping all the time. I know what to do now.
So I have a puppy that actually gets excited and impulsive
Emmett is clearly the opposite
Same :-(
Love this straight to the point
I love this guy!
How to train our dog to stay with us when we get him out
@@mamrizmaiwand9864 vein yvetlos is..h go
The only video I’ve seen that actually looks effective thank you

Great video! we are definitely working through this with our dog!
Absolutely brilliant video
Big dogs are easy- had a Giant Schnauzer but our 10lbs Morkie was much more difficult to train not to jump or walk heel as she’s so close to the ground & not as easily reached to reward.
I’d love to see a video with tiny dogs.
Your training program is Awesome!!!!!
If I put the leash on my dog to keep him from jumping, he’s going to go crazy thinking we’re going for a walk.
Sending you lots of positive vibes of patience, understanding, and consistency! I know this can be stressful but its so worth it so they can enjoy life 💕
Do it outside
Also get your dog used to not getting overexcited about bringing the leash out. Practice putting it on and off random times during the day and reward calmness with the lead on. Good luck!
😂👍
Yes, what Tamsin said. Desensitize your dog from the leash!
Great tips! Thank you.
Thank you guys for all the valuable advices. Could you do a video on barking ? My dog won't stop barking when someone comes to our place or if I talk to someone from the balcony or if someone is in the hallway. I tried everything but no use. Any advice ?
Try to distract him by teaching other behaviors so he will pay attention to you.
Awesome, thank you
“Get off the cat” lol 😂 I’ve trained my cats to repel off-leash trespassers on my porch with a swift claw to the nose!
Just tried the stepping on lead trick and my 3 month old retrodoodle just bites into my thigh. Guess I have to solve biting before jumping.
U ahould consider watching the show of Victoria Stilwell titled its me or the dog, shes a dog trainer too.
Retrodoodle omg! 😆😆
some stuff is really difficult to teach while they are still teething. the ignore method worked really well on the puppy biting for me though.
🤜🐕
That usually does the trick.
Jed Sanford can you clarify ignore method? My puppy has razor sharp teeth, tends to lick/bite when greeting or just in general when playing or when excited.
Great training tips 😊 my dog understands very well that he’s not allowed to jump on me but getting him to understand it with other people is WAY more difficult because he’s very excited and every person will have a different reaction to him as to wether they want to talk to him or not 😐 - besides that my next biggest issue it to get him to calm down when there’s guests cuz he gets hyped up it takes him at least an hour in their company to calm down 🫤😥
This is the cutest and greatest puppy. He's going to be a super great dog. I want him!
Very helpful training style! Thank you for sharing this video.
Thank you so much
We're gonna try this
Oh yeah, just a few minutes my butt. I did everything you said BUT the dog is also a huge factor in this. Some dogs are harder to train than others and some dogs don't listen as well as others. Don't get discouraged if this doesn't work right away! Keep going and they will eventually learn ❤️
Great video! I’m going to try it later!
Love this channel and all it's quality information! The humor is the cherry on top🤣 7:19
Thank you so much 🙏😊
Tried this with my dog, he learned he's faster than me and started running away and barreling at me, then run away and barrel at me.
Why did y’all get dogs you obviously can’t handle?
Brilliant video - thank you! Looking at the subtitles, I don't think Alicia would appreciate being called a tool, though.
Super fan….thank u so much for always teaching not only the puppy…but to me too 😂
How do you teach your dog to generalize "off" with other people and not just you? My dog won't jump up on me but gets SO excited when someone is at the door that she hops up and down on her back legs with her paws scratching their knees. She is too excited to respond to treats.
I've seen with other videos, if you know people are coming over and put them on a leash then as soon as they try to jump you say "uh uh" and take them.out of the room. When they calm down, bring them back. Repeat.
@@rachelt5687 thanks
Same here my pup never jumps on me but only on other people
Same problem here with my 5 month old golden retriever.. any tips?
Same here, the other issue is people don't really listen to me about turning away from her and reactivily start petting and cooing at her when she jumps on them and ultimately end up encouraging her behavior, she gets way too tunnel visioned with her excitement about company she can't focus any mind to me and kinda the same with house guests....
Gracias
What if you have two dogs both that jump? Train them separately ?
What a good puppy 😭❤️❤️
I was doing that with my dog I was taking her to church and she kept getting up to play or get petted so I put the leash under my food to keep her laying and I only had to do it twice and she learned quick
Did you mean to say "foot" instead of food?
awesome technique
Damn man. You really helped us and our little puppy! Really appreciate it man! Thanks.
