“Signing up for things I don’t have time for…” I relate to this so hard Niki lol. Good luck with this change. I bet it will be good for you.
Yes, it’s exactly the change I needed for myself. My favorite hobby has me constantly feeling stressed and like I’m never getting to things fast enough. I think even now I’m still slightly over planned for the month but it’s eons ahead of what I have been doing!
I'm finally going to read a Robin Hobb book in April. Lots of friends have been reading her work recently and I thought I'd finally dip in starting with The Assassin's Apprentice. The same group are doing a read along of the His Dark Materials series so I'm going to read the first book of that series and see what I think. These are all series that disappeared into my post-university fantasy reading slump. I've got to get to more Adrian T though.
That’s great - I hope you like Hobb as much as I do! That first trilogy was memorable and a good one. It took me a bit beyond that before I started truly loving the series, but it sets a great foundation. I’m curious how Dark Materials will go. I liked the first one well enough but got distracted and never read on.
I don't read a lot of fantasy these days, but i have lots of love for Hobbs, particularly the Fitz books, they're excellent. Enjoy!
I'm late to the Suneater party but I'm really enjoying it so far. Book 3 next for me. Good luck with your reading plans!
It sounds like you’re cruising right along. I’m glad you’re enjoying it! I’m late too.
But I feel like if we get to it before it’s complete we’re still doing good haha.
oh man you are in for such a treat with Sea Watch...so much new creative worldbuilding to dig into there. And then Demon in White on the horizon? 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
your mantra is amazing, I've been prioritizing some more anticipated titles this month too and it's so exciting 🥰
Thank you! It's wild to me how much more fun my reading life is when I stick to my mantras. I get caught up in the slog of obligation reads and lower priorities too often - it shall stop!
Best wishes with what you choose to read, I hope you get some good stories. I'm currently reading the Count of Monte Cristo. I may be some time! Good luck.
Thank you! I hear that’s such a great book, albeit long haha. I hope it’s worth the page count.
Sometimes I get out of reading slumps by alternating SFF books with other genres.
That has helped me as well. Reading a good productivity book can save me from falling into one in the first place.
It’s cool that you’ll be picking up OD&L in June. I’m halfway through right now and Im in the boat that it was a step up from book 1. It also has made me appreciate The Fall so much more. The only thing that irks me is Cahill’s writing style at times. It’s definitely fantasy brain candy to me so far!
That’s great to hear. And I was planning to work The Fall in as well. I was so ornery on the first one, it’ll be nice to go into the second one with optimism.
@@TheObsessiveBookseller Book 1 managed to sink its teeth its teeth into me but the story structure and it’s pacing held it back. I really wish a revised version of book 1 became available someday.
The Fall on the other hand has a fantastic story structure. The way that he took the reader to explore different angles of the event itself was very well done. It’s quite visceral despite not having a whole lot of depth to it.
