I just heard the album version, it's fucking beautiful, yeah it's basically this soft acoustic version and nothing likd the early version, no need to worry , won't be disappointed, it's so good
Man I love this version , and 99% of the time I agree with how they change things in the studio, but the original live version with the feedback was so amazing.
Wow, they really slowed it down, i like it tbh, but it's missing the energy the old performances had. Wonder if they'll pull out Just Eyes And Mouth soon so we can hear how much they've changed it too.
@@pastywhiteboy9393 it's probably around the same tempo, I should've phrased my original comment better. It's much more quiet, calming even. I miss the chaotic energy of thom going crazy on the sustainer guitar during the "solo" sections. It's missing that at the very least.
Love this song to death! I like this Wall of Eyes version but man that other version from 2022 is so much funkier with thom on the telecaster (or was he on bass i dont remember...)
I think they're testing different versions to see which one sounds better, or probably just making different versions to play in different shows as Radiohead did with True Love Waits
I feel like this song more than others would do better as a Radiohead song. For the simple reason that I think it would be MUCH more interesting with a lot more layers of instruments. Seems like the addition of the clarinet and its effects does a LOT to bring out what’s interesting about the song, and could use even more layers than just this. But it’ll be what it’ll be in the end. I do wish that The Smile would do more overdubs in the studio. There’s no reason to limit what you do in the studio to what you can do live.
prefer the old one but it would still be cool if they could put them together to make a better song. Does anyone else here prefer this version? just curious
@@kurtidiotequemoron my plan is throwing flowers with a card on it and I’ll write something sweet and perhaps also a question and then my e-mailadres but they’ll probably ignore it lol
I went to their Glasgow show last night and told my nephew who was also there that I would ask Johnny for his plectrum but needless to say I didn't bother lol
First listen ever. Nhhhgh! I can catch them in August, but I'd rather have this type of venue than open air festivals and daylight. And they just churn out songs like it requires no effort.
I wish they'd stop taking great ideas for songs and then stripping them down to their core. Retain the original arrangement... More energy and oomph... Always end up with whispery quiet, acoustic arrangements that lack the excitement of the initial idea.
Hmm I kinda like both equally for different reasons. I think this one is more interesting and fleshed out, but I miss the energy and weird guitar solos from the older one.
@@MicahBuzanANIMATIONI feel you dude ,they are both great. IMO This one is more structured and the original was a bit more chaotic. Dude yea! I miss that weird guitar solo it was like his guitar was talking
I agree but also disagree. Thom gets bored with repetition of his songs and the version we get on lps is often already stale to him and drained of vitality. He's always needed a producer who will force him into a corner and catch the moment of a song when it is in the inspirational stage... but he's always done the opposite and procrastinated over songs for years. BUT... Very often the recorded, deconstructed versions catch up with me down the road and I suddenly love them. And that is because by that time I have lived with the song for years as Thom had when he recorded it and find myself where he was then: where the deconstructed studio take is suddenly new and fresh. In some ways we are jsut behind the curve... the band took the whole journey, we are just getting snapshots.
That's literally all Thom's music, including Radiohead. But the good thing is all the versions of various songs still exist, even if only in live form. Think of it less as 'losing' a version you liked and more like gaining a new version. People obssess too much about studio recordings being definitive but it doesn't matter. Thom has no idea really what to do with his music. As a longtime listener i've known that for many years. He has himself given examples such as Nigel Godrich pinpointing the core of a great song out of a 10 minute early dirge of Harrowdown Hill. Thom doesn't know what will land with anyone but himself. And then of couse he will get totally bored or dissatisfied with a song himself and dismantle it and reconstruct it.
@@Chinaboatman 100% agree, if you asked me what my favorite Radiohead songs were I'd have to mention the specific versions I like, whether from the recorded version, live version, or live version that differed era by era. What makes this different for me is that I've never heard an unreleased Radiohead song take a downgrade from one early live version to the next, though.

Man I hope both versions get some light in the studio. This is this by far my favorite unreleased track.
Glad to see this song is still kicking around, though I prefer the old version
Sounds more like Wall of Eyes now
I'll never complain about something sounding like Wall of Eyes tbh that song is beautiful
Fun to hear the evolutions of these songs! They better not mellow out Just Eyes And Mouth though.
Aaah I was wondering when we'll hear the new version, thanks for sharing. So mellow, very different vibes.
So good. Love this version
It would be awesome if they pulled a Morning Bell and released a studio recording of both versions
I was thinking the same
maybe in both The Smile LP3 and Radiohead LP10, after all it seems this is originally an RH song
Man I love this version , and 99% of the time I agree with how they change things in the studio, but the original live version with the feedback was so amazing.
Love this version so much, went to see them in Glasgow last night, unbelievable experience 🏴🎸👀👍
This one has a very different vibe than the old psychedelic version. Both are good! Hope this song will get released either way
I kinda like this version better, it's grown on me. The drums kicking in sold it for me
Every time I hear this it another like Kurt, thanks for a great upload, appreciate how still you kept your phone during the song, bravo 🎸👍
❤️
I really felt it when he said "sims crashing" the unsaved progress on my house I never finished building
Ahhhh thanks for the upload. Was hoping this song would come back

Yes, need to leave it the way it was
Don’t wanna be that guy but it sounds the same tempo to me

A simplified and more fun Knives Out
For a moment I thought I heard a little knives out riff in there
for a minute there??

Thanks for uploading. The whole concert was great!
Thank you for sharng Kurt, this new version is awesome

It sounds fine. Thank you for sharing ❤
THIS IS WAY BETTER

Thanks for the clandestine videoing, Kurt! It's much appreciated!

Thats what i was thinking i like the acoustic. But maybe during the choruses they could play electric after in studio and still do thoms solo
much better version in my opinion apart from drums coming in at a weird timing, thanks!
¡Gracias!
Amazing how they pull in the crowd with just a Joni hologram
It sounds even more reminiscent of Knives Out now.
it could be Knives Out part 2
I wonder if Just Eyes and Mouth had the same treatment
Guys I’m going to their concert tonight, how do I convince Jonny to go out with me from the front row
I wish I knew

No way thom just gets rid of his only guitar solo (from what i know) like that

anyone know what nylonguitar he is playing?
It's like Skrting but Bach

Save me..........
Hi bread
makes me uncomfortable to see Thom dressed in a tucked in button down, belt, and blue jeans lol
Add this to the loooong list of thoms songs that get stripped of energy from their initial forms.
Sometimes it goes the other way but very rarely.

Wat happened to bass?
it knived out
genau ja 👱🏻♀️
bro its just Knives Out
What is this!? They’ve ruined their own song. Thom has done the same thing with Anima. Doubting their art. Need Radiohead to come back hard.
Good video but boy have they trashed this song. 😢
The original was hype asf but it mustve been tiring for them to play live lol
