After Iman’s comments I cannot support. I never knew Phoebe was upset that she would have to be forced to hire Black models. She doesn’t deserve my money. Have fun y’all.
Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed by this release. I was expecting streamlined and minimalist, but these designs felt rather uninspired to me. Just my personal opinion, of course. I enjoyed your review! ❤
@@hellocatwalkcity I totally understand!! It’s tough when you’ve waited and anticipated something for so long!! But on a positive note, it’s just the first collection and it will be interesting to see how she build upon this foundation in future releases.
I love Phoebe’s work at Celine. I was excited to see her own brand and frankly a lot of the designs are not new. The price is clearly there to weed out the “common” consumers and it’s clear to all that this is reserved only for the affluent. I see a lot of people raving about the high quality. Hmmmmm, how can you tell? Have you touched/feel the products? One thing I do have to applaud is the marketing strategy. Having the really limited quantity so half the products are sold out within a couple of hours is genius! It’ll feed on people’s desire to be part of an elite group and in the iykyk club and creates a frenzy for many to want to score items from the brand. I think it’s great that she is back in the game but for me, I’ll just admire from afar.
Same, keeping my distance and actually not even admiring from afar in this case. I’m not impressed. I’ll simply stay tuned to see what she does with her next collection but won’t hold my breathe. 😣
I agree! I’m so underwhelmed ! The bags are so overpriced for what it is, so are the clothes, the materials they used it’s not worth the price at all. But I’m kinda feeling relieved 😌 my money is safe for now 😅😂
I think she achieved her goals. The pieces she made are pretty timeless. I can't put a finger on them if they were made in the 90s, 2000s, 2010s or now.
I love the coats, like the loafers and some of the cuts and angles but I’m with you on the overall “meh.” Interesting that the bag strap clasps are the same as her original ones for Celine. I imagine the “sold out” is due to collectors as well as reflecting a desire to support her return. May she find her footing with future seasons.
Totally agree with you. Love the high turtle neck top. But the bags, nothing really caught my eye. I dislike the lobster clasps on the white/brown bag, look cheap to me
Agree with all of your reviews, wanted to be excited about fresh designs but not necessarily inspiring me:( I really wanted to like the lace up heels, I pictured them with black tights and skirt, etc. Sadly the design is just a smidge off for me. But it is the first collection so let’s see how she refines her designs. Thanks for the quick review!
I know! It’s bananas! 🍌 That necklace had me rolling but I was trying to hold myself together for the video 😂 and I later checked the materials on some of the apparel and am so beyond disappointed.
Recently found out she felt "forced" when it came to hiring non-white models. Disappointing and won't be buying her new label. Don't have to be a minority to be offended by that. I believe Iman.
As someone who didn't know who Philo was before she left Celine and is pretty neutral on her, I find it perplexing that some people comment that they're not all that excited about this new collection but want to support her new launch. It makes me think that we are all too eager to follow, like sheep. I only saw a few headlines about her collection from fashion publications, and they were pretty positive. My opinion is, let them have it! I agree that it is kind of odd and overpriced. I guess that I have no real designer brand loyalty. We should all just buy what we like and not feel compelled to support any one (highly compensated) designer, possibly to our own detriment! Great review! ❤
We can support the individual without buying the items 😉 and I totally agree with you, we should all just buy what we want and not what the culture says. Philo left at the peak of her career so this has been a much anticipated return. Unfortunately for many of us, it is underwhelming and disappointing but that’s okay. To each their own.
Correct, they have discontinued and only some boutiques are carrying the leftover inventory. They’re phasing out all of Phoebe’s old designs. I made a video about this months ago giving everyone a heads up. Hopefully you can find the bag in one of the boutiques before they sell out.
thank you Hannah. I continue to keep you in my prayers, it feels like you are a friend in real life just by following you on youtube, hope you feel better soon@@hellocatwalkcity
So much anticipation but when I go to her website, I’m like huh?underwhelmed for sure.. Her collection is not cheap but quite a few designs are sold out! Not a fan for sure.. it seems like she is just using old designs.. and give a little spin.. I feel meh. 😮
The second necklace with the trombone links is meant to look like a Victorian watch chain; it's a style that's been in fashion for a bit, from Foundrae and also less overpriced brands. I wouldn't say it's super innovative but it does look of a piece with her style.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the collection is, for all intents and purposes, only available to fashion insiders. You’re not going to be able to find it your local Saks or Neiman Marcus. Most of it is already sold out online. It’s an interesting marketing strategy. Her elitism leave me cold. There’s my bushel of sour grapes. I assume it will sell like the proverbial hotcakes on secondary outlets like The Real Real and 1st Dibs, and will sell over the original retail price.
To me the bags look way too much like drafts of Old Celine.. just more detailed and expensive to make like the pipings vs the raw cut of her Celine cabas. As if she had frustrations over trashed designs at Celine and brought them out for her own brand. But still, the bags don't look 8k expensive 🥶
After waiting a lot my expectations got too high...at the end I got disappointed... Reminds me Jil Sander fall 2022, a bit of Bottega, The Row and Proenza Shoulder. Many designers are doing the same she did when she was the director of Cèline, I really expected to see Phoebe's personal touch, but with a new ingredient, sorry but too predictable for me, and the prices...Unless she offered more products and she had a flagship store with good personalized service (such as the huge brands do) I'd consider spend that money in her brand, specially because I have to see the product in person before paying big prices. I'm from Mexico and designers here are doing a very interesting job in terms of well fashion design with high standards and so cool, so I'd support them.
I was disappointed. It won't be easy for Phoebe to regain her previous success. Lots of brands are doing similar style now. But she has a lot of credibility)
Absolutely, she’s a living legend but as you say, there are now so many more competitors who do minimalist aesthetics. We’ll have to see how she stays ahead of the curve!
I have to agree...there's nothing in the collection that makes me want to buy...but an initial collection doesn't mean that her permanent direction won't evolve from this OR that her previous contracts with Celine prevent her from showing similar lines and pieces from the collections she did while there...and my instinct tells me that it's probably the latter. We will have to wait for time to tell and watch her evolution. Ha! The platypus shoes!!! I have a l-o-n-g narrow foot, so I can't envision them looking good in that sort of footwear. I suppose if you have a wide ball of foot, it could be flattering...but that's not me. However...the leather looked sumptuous...so I would try them on in-store...provided they even came in my size!!! My 2nd great-grandfather showed up on the census in the 1860's (I believe) as a 24 year old shoemaker...which no doubt where I get my love for fine leather articles AND my distinct style when it comes to footwear in particular. Further back on that same line...before the family immigrated from Bavaria before the Revolutionary War...we had coppersmiths and silversmiths...and I make my own jewelry out of copper and silver...BEFORE I even knew that was in my particular heritage...so I never stock too much in jewelry lines. I prefer to custom-make my own so that it's proportioned to me.
The « sold out » scam … it’s not really sold out it’s another trick, you put just a few pieces then you put it sold out then people just wait for it the pressure rises and then when when you put them back online, it’s like crazy!
Agree with many other comments: the designs are somewhat architecturally interesting, sort of, but the average person could hardly wear many of these designs in regular daily life.
I’m guessing she wanted her debut collection to be completely distanced from Celine, style wise. ☺️ I mean, it’s a win for her to have been able to launch it.
To me, it felt like she straddled between old Celine and something very odd and unexpected. It felt like two people had created this collection and put it together. I’m hoping she will develop a new signature look as she evolves.
I saw somebody said they looked like overpriced Massimo Dutti. Another The Row, but overpriced. I have to agree :( I own a Celine Belt Bag and would be happy with that for now.
Loved the sweaters and coats but I live in a place that doesn’t need a coat very often so it wouldn’t get used enough to warrant buying, though those prices were 😨. The fringed skirt with the slits certainly didn’t call my name and I found the fringed pieces rather odd. The Gig bag reminded me of the trio immediately and that tacky Mum necklace reminded me of a Family Guy episode where Stewie keeps repeating, “Mum?!” until he gets Mum’s attention and she loses it; my children send that clip to me whenever they need me 😂. 7/10 for PP”s 1st effort.
For me, some of the pieces would deserve a 2nd look if the prices would be a tiny bit more reachable. Overall there was nothing that made me crazy. Maybe next one.
