    Heat of the year, perhaps. One of the two surfers had to come out on top, and with a heat that close, it's not surprising that there is dissension. I say congrats.s to the WSL for having the best, most prepared and experienced, impartial group of judges the sport of surfing could ever ask for. If John John hadn't caught that last wave and performed the most miraculous drop directly into that gaping tube, and then got spit out to complete his ride, Gabriel would have won. For someone to say "shame on you" to the WSL after a terribly difficult heat to judge such as this one, they are clearly the one(s) speaking and acting with bias. Keep up the good work Judges!

    shame on all the people trying to take away from john's big moment. this was a brilliant match, fair scoring and the compeptitors embraced at end. i understand being passionate about the guy you feel represents your country. i am a huge toledo fan so i am not a brazil hater. but when passion verges over into blinded bullying, it's gone too far. we saw this at the olympics too with the french athlete as he received his silver medal. you create ill will for medina when there is no need to. he can create his own wins==bullying pressure from supporters is not helpful. there are times when i think john is underscored because he makes things look so easy rather than adding drama and flourishes that say "i just did something big!". but i know that it is my bias, and i try not to constantly whine about it. we all have blind spots when it comes to the person we support. try to have some mature awareness of that and respect for the process and for a great moment.

    • @vickryan

      let me esplain. (explain) here is what happened, for everyone to understand, despite all the arguments/opinions out there, here are the FACTS. (in my opinion) ;) FACT#1 is Gabriel's scores are (in real life) a 10 and 9.5 which is slightly higher (in my opinion) so overall he was scored pretty well, I think. on the other hand, you have JohnJohn who SHOULD have (this is FACT#2) a 9.8 (nearly a 10 point ride but its not) and a 8.5 at best. basically he is overscored on his 9.73 ride, because he claimed it (so it must have been insane!) and because he dropped in with his head down so basically eyes-closed, which is pretty tough to do, of course, but the wave itself is nowhere near (not even close) to Gabriel's 10 pointer. so John John was overscored. that's what happened. FACT. (in my opinion)

    Quanto ao 9,73... vamos parar de choradeira , "PARA QUE TA FEIO!". O drop de John John foi insano, de cabeça para baixo, locão mesmo, coisa de quem não tem medo, ele poderia tirar uma nota excelente como poderia se machucar sério. Ai os juízes acrescentaram o "adicional de periculosidade" kkkkk.
    Parabés ao cabelo de miojo, ganhou merecidamente.

      @fernandomaron87 8 лет назад +4

      Pois é cara, a galera que ta falando talvez nunca tenha tirado um tubo de backside na vida, e não sabem a periculosidade e a dificuldade dos drop +tubo que John Florence tava botando pra baixo. Vitória merecida em minha opinião

    • @rafaelargolo5340
      @rafaelargolo5340 8 лет назад +2

      Me desculpe, mas esse argumento não é válido. Sendo assim, se os dois surfarem uma onda de mesmo tamanho e ficarem a mesma quantidade de tempo dentro do tubo o Jonh Jonh sempre terá que ter uma nota maior? Lógico que não, dessa forma estaríamos julgando aspectos biológicos dos ser humano.

    • @carlos9312
      @carlos9312 8 лет назад +9

      não são aspectos biológicos. isso é surf. surfistas regular stance levam certa vantagem teahupoo, primeiro porque sempre será mais dificil para eles completar o tubo, e caso completem, a nota sera um pouco elevada pelo grau de dificuldade, segundo que alguns afirmam preferirem entubar de backside, como jeremy flores por exemplo, pois o grab rail dá estabilidade. assim como os goofys tambem tem a sua vantagem que é entubar de frontside e ter total controle da onda. Resumindo: é mais facil para os goofys, ou seja, para um goofy tirar a mesma nota que um regular despencando no grab rail e encaixando no trilho, ele precisa dropar atrasado, ficar profundo e andar mais tempo no barrel. Então, está certo oq voce disse, se os dois andarem o mesmo tempo e a onda tiver o mesmo tamanho, o regular leva vantagem.
      Isso explica um pouquinho o motivo pelo qual os regulares dominam o tour ha tantos anos (antes de medina em 2014, só tivemos CJ hobgood em 2001 e occhilupo em 1999 nos ultimo 20 poucos anos). Não há muitas direitas tubulares no tour, quando há, é um tubo espremido como jbay ou um buraco impossivel como the box em margaret, com exceção do backdoor que medina ja demonstrou maestria. Já as esquerdas são sempre grandes e com a boca aberta, como fiji tahiti e pipeline, ficando mais facil para um surfista de backside completar, ou seja, mesmo quando é para os regulares estarem em desvantagem, eles estão em vantagem. espero que dê pra entender

    Florence's 9,73 to win the heat was absolutely the same wave of Medina's 9,1. Medina's wave even had the plus with the spit at the end. Anyone can do this comparison. What the fuck was that WSL?!?!
    And talking about the drop, JJF was more difficult than Gabriel, but the wave was the same. Medina did it easily because he is a goofy, it's fair give a 0,63 difference because one is regular and other is goofy?? JJF's 9,73 was not longer than Medina's 9,1 because the drop.
    Medina's 10 was the bigger wave of the heat by far. Florence's 9,93 was very technical, but was smaller than Medina's 10. A 9,93 was to much. Gabriel was technical too in a bigger wave and the difference was just 0,07.
    Remeber Pipe 2014?? Wilson beat Medina because got bigger waves, even though Medina got most technical waves.

    JJ and Medina are the greatest surfer from their generation until now, but Medina has a disavantage, he is Brazilian. I didn't see anyone screaming, angry or complaining because JJ did a BIG claim in his last wave, and maybe because of it he got this overscored grade!!! Imagine if instead of JJ was Medina doing that claim?????

    • @belletollz
      @belletollz 7 лет назад +2

      Medina does do those claims all the time, so what are you talking about? i have no problem with claims, although I thought Jordy this year did a few that were so far over the top they were bizarre. But john just threw his hands up. There is no disadvantage in being Brazilian--you've won two championships, one with a mediocre surfer (although I admire his tenacity). Se você pega uma onda e faz tubo profundo, demorado e perfeito tira 10. Aí seu adversário pega uma onda boa também, mas seu tubo, embora profundo, é rápido e tira 9.93. Não tem sentido isto, pois o 9,93 foi proporcionalmente mais valorizado que o 10 e praticamente é uma nota 10. Com certeza a nota de JJF seria entre 9,5 e 9,6. Sua nota de virada seria mais difícil de ser alcançada. Deram uma exagerada naquele 9,93. Não tem sentido você preencher todos os requisitos para tirar 10 e outro que não fez tudo tirar um 10 proporcional.
