The music that Led Zeppelin recorded and released between 1969 and 1979 can never be duplicated again. Led Zeppelin's music will forever be timeless.
Not one bad album in the bunch! Add to that every single one was different (never doing the same thing twice) and every album was solid from start to finish. More great songs on one album than some bands had on their Greatest Hits releases. They are Rock Royalty!! Never a band had each and every member be as important as the next, as was proven when Bonzo passed. Each member so good they were irreplaceable and each brought something to the table that made Zeppelin. Alone each a great Musician, together undeniable, they were Magic!
@@dlewtweentorla1210 Exactly
Zeppelin is arguably the best rock band in history, however a lot of their music was a duplicate, a cover or “sampled” from the original American blues masters that they idolized. That does not detract from the sheer genius of their collective musical talent, but let’s give credit where credit is due. This song is a variation of a Blind Willie Johnson song, “ Jesus make up my dying bed”
@@kikivon3501 This is highly debatable. They did covers they also payed homage using a line here or there from another song to a certain artist. Thing is most of it is a stretch. Especially when Page is said to have ripped himself off from his time with the Yardbirds. Most of what is takes about pertains to mostly the first album and a couple of songs in the second. After that they redid a couple more total on their next couple of albums. After Zep untitled you don't hear of it. So saying most of their songs are copies is highly unfair. Many bands including Hendrix, SRV, the Stones all did similar. What wasn't right is in the beginning not giving credit to the musicians that wrote original work. That was based on record companies being greedy back in the day and hoping they wouldn't get sued and taking a risk if they did ,would make much more than the payout would be. That changed in the late 70s and artists become more protected.
It will always be a debate, yes the "borrowed" the the extent has been greatly exaggerated. Saw one list where it points to all Zep originals to non originals. It's a joke and quite a stretch in spots. Also they stop the comparison after Zep's fourth album. Even then original content still far outweighed the rest. But adding the next four albums to the equation would have made it look silly as far as numbers go.
Even so, not one song they copied is close to the original. Not like most who redo a song and you recognize it right away. Or think it's the same with a different singer. They made every one their own.
@@dlewtweentorla1210 Facts
Everyone talks about Bonham’s power on the drums, but man could he hold down a groove, too!
He could play both funky and sexy at the same time. Unequaled to this day.
Yep he could swing
The great rock drummers in my opinion are those who can change up and come right back on top of the groove, and nobody was better at it than Bonham.
Purdie shuffle
true Bonham is killing it... but listen to John Paul Jones killin the BASS
I saw them twice in the early 70s in Denver. Saw Robert solo in the 80s. I was always so happy and emotionally exhausted, they were great. It always takes me back when I listen to them. I love seeing others experience them. Love to you sir.
I saw them live in 1970 and they were even better live than you could imagine. So glad I grew up in their time.
I've just been diagnosed with lung cancer, and the Oncologists said that I've got 3 to 6 months to live, So being 83 years young this year, I've given myself the pseudonym just in time. I was lucky enough to have seen Led Zep early 70s here in Perth Australia, and recently I've also been listening to Pink Floyd and TIME, yes I believe that TIME is like a toilet roll, the nearer you get to the end the faster it goes. Love and peace from Perth Australia.....

Hope your still with us mate, take care 🇬🇧
Saying prayers. Let us know if you are still with us.
That album is a gem one of the best albums ever made
In my opinion Physical Graffiti is the best Zeppelin album(s) ever made with House's of The Holy and Zeppelin 4 being neck and neck for next best,it's just that The Rain Song and No Quarter does it for me every time 45 years after buying the album!! I just don't think Zep 4 can top House's of the Holy!!!!! Not to mention on Physical Graf. you have ... in my time of dying, 10 years gone , sick again,in the light and Kashmir, plus so much more. I just can't give my vote to zep 4
@@edwardcapobianco2975 I couldn’t put up a second best album, my first one was their second. Then graffiti before I finally went and got them all. I LOVE the first two I got… but they’re all so good. Older we’re better, don’t wanna down talk that last one but it wasn’t my fave, lol!!
@Michael Lambert well every album Is a homerun. I love Presence alot too. I think I'm just burned out on 1 and 2 cause it was played so much on the radio.
Magnificent song...and this live was fantastic!
Saw them in '77 and still to this day it was my favorite concert!!
This song was recorded live. Four piece. Drums, bass, guitar, vocals.
For me , this is Zeppelins greatest song not Stairway
Agreed
I can’t decide between the two, but this is my standard for heavy metal. All others will be judged by IMTOD. It doesn’t get the love that it deserves.
I saw a Led Zeppelin in 1977 at the coliseum in Richfield Ohio the cost was $6.50 a ticket! If you want to catch a good cover band Get the Led Out they are great
Yes I saw them in Dallas they are an excellent cover band
"John Bonham beat the drums like they owed him money" is reaction enough!
JULY 20TH, 1969.
My friend and I bought two tickets to see Led Zeppelin at a venue called Music Carnival on the East side of Cleveland. It was a Theater in the round holding @5,000 seats in a stadium seating configuration...The front row was ten feet back from the stage and people had to look up as the seats were lower.
We were five rows back on the aisle in seats E-1&2 . That put us stage high, thirty feet from the stage. I could have hit Robert Plant with a wadded up popcorn bag, we were that close!
The James Gang were the warmup band and blew us away.
When Zeppelin took the stage, they were set up directly facing us and played the entire first album and most of the as yet unrealeased second album. Hearing Plant and Page go back and forth on the "Lemon Song" was AMAZING!
When they finished, they came straight up my aisle and I got a low five from Page himself. All this greatness for the then priincly sum of $4.50!
Then I got home in time to see Armstrong step on the Moon.
It's fifty-four years ago and it STILL feels like yesterday! I may be old, but my generation got to see all the great bands! I'm so pleased that younger people are discovering what we've known all along😊
I was 14 years old. I loved Led Zeppelin. They had just came out with Led Zeppelin presence it was in my opinion awesome we were just kids. I had a four years older brother and cousin. Also we got four tickets. I got one when it came time to go to the show they ditched me and I was crying in my bedroom. My dad came in gave me 20 bucks and drop me off at the San Diego sports Arena The show was awesome. My seat was right above John Paul Jones, the keyboards. In the middle of the show, they sat down and did acoustic now I had tears in my eyes because I loved the acoustic side of Led Zeppelin also. The girl sitting next to me she gave me a big, fat hug and a kiss on the cheek. It was my first real hug was huge Juggs, rubbing on my chest it was awesome. spent many years going to Black Sabbath deep purple scorpions, Dokken, Ronny, James Dio, Ted Nugent Rush in to me Led Zeppelin was the best show I ever went to.
Second Comment, if you have read my first one.
April 27, 1977 Cleveland, Ohio At The Richfield Colisuem (a grass field today)
I witnessed "THE" "Destroyer" show.
I sat section 110, Row H Seat #8. This was the most Magical Night of my life. I was 16 and not a Friggin care other than ZEP and Rock n Roll. I was at this Legendary Show in Awe. Look for the show, Soundboard Sound, You will hear what I saw and heard, without the 4 Channel Sound which you had to be there to experience what rolling sound is. 20,000 of us heard!
It's an old gospel tune. I love this song. They somehow manage to capture the feel of a funeral walking down a New Orleans street and still sound like Led Zeppelin.
Yeah, you nailed the very essence of this , in fact, dirge, like no other commentator here!
I'm pretty sure it was a Blind Willie Johnson blues song.
And if my memory serves me it's original was a 15th century English Christian hymn.
The connection between a blues song and a English Christian hymn is quite another thing! 😬
Led Zeppelin, Market Square Arena, Indianapolis 1977, my first concert ever at the age of 14!!!
Truly baptism by fire!!🔥🔥
LOL, you may know this, but there's a Whole Foods store there now! ALSO: They have a plaque in front of the store honoring the site as being--also in 1977--where Elvis's last concert was. (June 26th). Woulda LOVED to have seen Elvis--period! But Zeppelin even moreso! Alas, I was just a casual Zep fan in 8th grade/77 when they came to the Capitol Center near DC. By '80 I was a confirmed fanatic, YEARNING for their next tour. But...
For me they never did a bad album yall just stop sleepin on my boy JPJ one of the most talented people in Led Zeppelin but honestly thier all goats in thier own right
This album is almost 50 years old and still on my playlist in the car got the 12 yr old grandson listening to all the old bands proving that this music is so much better then todays. Zeppelin 4 was first album of theirs I bought as 12 yr old in 1979 and I was hooked for life.
I saw Led Zeppelin in concert1969 and 1970 that was before this song. They were electrifying in person. “Dazed and Confused” was amazing.
DRUMMING MASTERPIECE!
This IS the song, other than Moby Dick that showcases the insane talent of the late John Bohnam, one of the best drummers that has ever lived! He attacks the Drums and beats the skins off of them!
What about Achilles Last Stand?
@@mikenastasi8927 yes sir!
@@mikenastasi8927 they're ranked 1A and 1B to me lol

Achilles Last Stand is my favorite Zep song and Physical Graffiti is my favorite Zep album.
Bonham is okay.
My late grandmother gave me this precious gem as a Christmas Present in 1982.
On their SwanSong Label.
Zep nailed this jam HANDS DOWN.
Still one of my faves.
Outside of their immortal staple
" Kashmir ".
Which is a ROCK STAPLE!
Physical Graffiti is my favorite Led Zeppelin album.
I go back and forth between Physical Graffiti and III. Depends on my mood when asked.
It’s everybody’s favorite - if they aren’t tone def that is
Presence for me. And Led Zeppelin 4. Entire albums but there's one exception from 4.
yeah: I always joke it's kinda cheating, being a double album and all, but, man, it DOES show their full Spectrum, their amazing range! And like you said--those riffs! I think if just the first two sides had been released as a single album, it'd be thought of as perhaps the greatest purely electric rock albums ever made. Just review the playlist there! F Me! It took me till Freshman year college to REALLY mine and discover how cool this album truly is!
Led zeppelin has been my favorite band for 50 years. Greatest band ever
HELL yeah. Great reaction T! How fucking brilliant were these four lads? Especially Bonzo. Absolute favorite Zep song from my favorite album Physical Graffiti- it will always kick ass. 🤘🏼🎧🤟🏼
Completely brilliant!
I don't choose Zeppelin "favorites" easily--the old joke is kinda true: "Whatever one I'm listening to now is my fav," but, for real, if gun to head to choose Top Ten, I know that THIS bad boy would def be on that list!
John Paul Jones was known as The Governor at 24 years old
Saw them in June 1977 and it’s still the best concert I’ve ever seen
Me too. Seatle king dome. A time of my life that I will never forget.
The Forum in 77.
Pontiac, set a record and we’re in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Same here I was blown away
@@soisaidtogod4248 yep the fabulous forum

John Bonham in BEAST mode. Led Zeppelin in BEST mode. One of their--or anyone's--greatest tracks. Recorded live in the studio--one take, a cough and "a listen." Oh yes: THANK YOU!
Come have a listen then....
One take is insane. Not a note out of place.
Nice edit: I’m curious if you’ve heard “traveling riverside blues.” The official video is quite good too. Can’t recommend it enough. That “break” tho 🤣🤣🤣
I saw LED ZEPPELIN 1977 Madison Square garden it's was the best concert I ever seen
You should definitely check out their song Carouselambra. That song is a roller-coaster.
John Bonham played to follow the lead guitarist by using his bass and snare to to a half beat behind to perfection.
Very fun(ny) fact: in the early 2000s a British rock station did a poll open to the public in order to determine who the greatest drummer, greatest guitarist, greatest bassist, and greatest singer was/is. Every single member of Led Zeppelin was voted #1 lmao.
I've been listening to their music for decades. The more I listen, the better they sound
And the better they sound the more I listen to them!
Please listen to ten years gone by Zeppelin. Truly moving lyrics and captivating sounds.
Saw Led Zeppelin 18 times between 1970 and 1977. Their concerts were anywhere between 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours. ( sometimes longer and rarely shorter). Zeppelin was my number one band in the 70’s.
Hope you recorded them once or twice 😎
@@SopranoPizzaJMFNJ I actually did record the September 1970 show, however it was the concert that had a pretty famous bootleg “Live on Blueberry Hill”. That quality is much better that me deteriorated cassettes. That was also the only time I saw them when they played less than 2 1/2 hours (about 2:15). There’s a great medley of Communication Breakdown that show which includes Good Times Bad Times, For What it’s Worth and I Saw Her Standing There.
@@allanbluzdude That's AWESOME! It's possible your source captured things that the other sources did not. One of the best Versions of the Blueberry Hill show combines several sources to complete the show. Dude, I'm soo Jealous.I saw Plant 1 time. Damn!!!!!
Damn, I want to share the part of your memory that remembers those concerts!
My favorite Zeppelin song... thank you
First time I watched your reaction and enjoyed It very much. But to start "The Crunge" is of their 1973 LP House's of the Holy and not Physical Graffiti. You asked for concert stories, well I'm sorry to disappoint. But I was 11 years old when the news broke about John's passing. My brother up from me is 8 years my senior and was at work and called me and broke the news to me. I was saddened but he was heart broken for many reasons like most of us but on top of that he had tickets for the upcoming show in Cleveland Ohio. He also told me that the local radio station WMMS 101 was paying tribute to him and the band. My brother told me the next time I hear a Zeppelin song listen to the drums. I did and was blown away. And ever since then every time a Zeppelin song comes on my ears automatically turn to the beat. In my opinion and many others agree that John Henry Bonham was and still the best "ROCK" drummer. From showmanship, to originality, to amazing and complex beats and his hard pounding in your face style. To me that was the day the music died. ✌️
Imagine hearing this song for the first time LIVE, 2 days before the album even came out. That's what happened. "Physical Graffiti" dropped during their 1975 tour. I saw them right before & thousands of us, in a packed arena, heard this & "Kashmir" thundering over, through & around us for the very first time live. It was pretty much a spiritual experience!
I was fortunate enough to see Zeppelin 3 times..in 1970, '75 & '77. I was always going to concerts & looking back I feel blessed. I also saw Hendrix just 3 months before he died..Deep Purple with Ian Gillan still with them, so many legendary artists...heck, I even saw Elvis (twice!). Like I said, blessed.
💙☮💙☮💙☮💙☮💙☮💙
And it does my heart good to see you appreciate these guys like you do.💙
VERY Blessed! Congrats! And you did something even Jimmy Page never did--saw Hendrix. I recall him saying in an interview that that was one of his huge regrets, that he was always meaning to see Jimi play, since he was , to quote Page after his death "the best guitarist any of us ever had," but kept putting it off for being so busy himself with Zeppelin. Glad YOU got to see all those wondrous artists!
@@joescott8877
I didn't know that Page never got to see Hendrix. I know that Stevie Ray Vaughan never saw him & that's a shame being as Jimi was his main inspiration.
When I saw Hendrix I stood with my arms propped on the edge of the stage, taking photos of him (in those days stages weren't as high as they are now & no barriers in front). After his encore he reached down to give me his guitar pick. Just as our hands touched, a big burly guy jostled me aside & grabbed the pick.
I was a little 5'2" 16 year old & he would've knocked me down if not for the crowd pressed against us & around us.
It still makes me furious to think about it! I'd love to still have that pick. But hey, at least I've got my pics stored away somewhere up in my loft.
Thanks, Joe, for such a nice & interesting reply! Made me smile.
💙☮🌿
@@deborahcornell171 MY "interesting" reply made YOU smile?? LOL, thanks, but I'd say YOUR story is way more epic! OMG, Hendrix offering you his GUITAR PICK. What a precious artifact!! Man, I'm furious at that burly dude, too now, lol. He STILL deserves an ass-whup for that even today, haha! Wow, to see Jimi right at the edge of the stage...Well, to your point, you may have lost the pick, but still have the pics of the show! Cheers!
Thanks for sharing Deborah!!!
I discovered Zeppelin a year after Bonhams death, for years I’d wished I could have seen them live. I saw Robert Plant live a few times and he was great. In 2007 I finally got my wish when they played the O2 Arena in London, I can only say they were worth the wait, they are the best band I’ve ever seen and believe me I’ve seen most of the greatest bands ever but Zeppelin where on a different planet. The whole show was filmed and is on a DVD called Celebration day. There were a number of other bands at that show and they were great too but Zepp were next level.
The one band I regret most not having seen. Had tickets to their 77 show in Pittsburgh, but Plant's son died before the show and the tour was cancelled of course.
They were at their best live
They were so good they were making millions without hardy any TV appearances!
That had to have been a dream come true… 🤩
@@charlesseagraves6210 Yes, very much so.
An amazing interpretation of the deathbed redemption gospel song "Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed" by Blind Willie Johnson and later by Josh White.

This has always been my favorite Zeppelin album. So much soul.

The drums are sick af, just awesome.
Loved how Plant did the "oh my Jesus" part on Celebration Day
Physical Graffiti, one of the best double albums of all time. In The Light is another banger.
The Light is AWESOME!
Indeed. EVERYBODY needs the light!
Run--don't walk--towards The Light!
Plant stated it is in his top 3.
Physical Graffiti is definitely Zeps best album in my opinion but every album is legendary from this group. I would recommend ‘Ten Years Gone’ or ‘In the light’ from physical G but really most any song off this album will be great.
ICONS.. John Bonham there are no words for how talented he truly was
Wasn’t this their first album on Swan Song?
LZ classic!
This is one of very few songs that have better cover than original in my opinion. Its "cover", but Page and John Paul Jones are on stage with The Black Crowes. The drumming is insane.
“cough”… genius!
That track... one of the best of Zeppelin's "raw power" tracks. The movements in the composition are almost like a miniature symphony. Genius stuff!
I feel like bonzo is lead drums on this song
Good choice! From Blind Willie Johnson's "Jesus Make Up My Dying Bed" from 1927. Bob Dylan also covered this song.
Blind, Willie Johnson has an awesome story behind him

The live version from 1975 is sick, badass, swamp music heaven.
1975 was a great year for music
Banham liked the drumming of funk and that was his style. Love it baby
I saw Paige Plant in Cleveland, Ohio. All I can say is I can die a happy man😅. But in all seriousness, I was completely awe struck. I have seen a lot of bands, and I can say nothing compares to the stage presence and pure genius that is Robert Plant and Jimmy Paige !

Led Zeppelin had Rock, Heavy Metal, Blues, Rock-Samba, Rock-Bossa nova, and more. No musical group will ever be this good.

*Blind Willie Johnson
And while he was the first to record it in 1928, variations of the song with different titles and lyrics are known to have existed as early as 1924. This was a regular occurrence before recorded music became commonplace as the songs and music were usually passed along by "word of mouth".
You need to do the live version.

I feel blessed to have seen them once in 1975 and twice in July of 1977, some of my best memories from my teenage years.
Three of my favorite bands all have something in common, killer drummers. Well, that and incredible guitar players, but Zeppelin, Rush and Van Halen.
It all started with zeppelin.
That's a steel guitar in the beginning, btw.
MORE AEROSMITH SONGS....! Lots more great tunes on Get Your Wings you have not heard yet...! Women of the World - Pandoras BOX - Spaced- SOS
Get Your Wings is my favorite Aerosmith album.
Its about a man trying to get into heaven, but they're not letting him, so he says, " I was only trying to have some fun". I don't know why, but that just makes my hair stand up.
I saw them live in 1979 at Knebworth, 16 years old and off my head on Morrocan hashish.
The album cover was cool you could change the letters in the windows and you would see filthy Or other words combined from Physical Graffiti... You could swap out different sleeve jackets that were in there And you would see people in the windows as well
Mick Jagger is sitting on the stoop of that Brownstone with Keef and Basquiat in the music video for Waiting On A Friend.
Bonzo = Drumming MVP of everything.
Have you heard Achilles Last Stand? It's another epic, but more straightforward, up tempo, hard rock. I'm pretty sure you'd love it.
you have to get rid of the ear buds - must listen with headphones.
1977 August Oakland Day on the Green! Great!
FYI, "The Crunge" was on the "Houses of the Holy" album... but the song "Houses of the Holy" is on the "Physical Graffiti" album... 🤯
It's very different from Bob Dylan's version of 1962 (the song originally goes back to the 1920s). They really made it their own and put that Zeppelin touch and feel to it. Classic!
PS: Dylan's cover is also brilliant.
Real music, real instruments, NO auto-tuned, no talent bullshit.....there will never be another
I'm new to this channel, I'm wondering if you've reacted to "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin? That song iz electrifying! Also "Dazed and Confused" and "Good Times Bad Times"
Look up Blind Willie Johnson In My Time of Dying.. Believe It or Not Led Zeppelin did this as a cover for Blind Willie and guess what else? Blind Willie to the cover of this song I think in the 20s or 30s I'm not sure when
