    I just got my server and I'm configuring it for a beast of a pfsense machine. These things are great and I'm going to go for the Hyve Cygnus 1u storage server here shortly. Thanks for the video!

      I really like these Hyve products. I have the storage server as well and it is awesome! Glad you liked the video!

    Thank you, for giving me a way to unlock my IPMI. I almost gave up on it

    Thank you for a great video. I didnt catch the io of the server, since there is little storage space on board. But thanks again.

    Just for sharing the IPMI pass reset you get a Lik' and Sub' ....you are a good man. You might be able to do some IPMI commands to slow the fans further assuming you have a cool server evironment!

    you can yank the ground off the fan headers and run that to 5v instead giving the fans 7v instead of 12v. but i would add some plenums to direct the airflow.

    you could probably replace the fans with noctua ones that should take care of the sound

    I purchased one yesterday and can't wait to set it up. Question - what is the model of the PCIe riser used on the system?

  • @joshhardin666
    @joshhardin666 Год назад

    is it the fan wall or the power supply that most of the noise is coming from? if it's the fan wall, you can pretty easily swap those fans out with something like noctua high flow fans that are nice and quiet while still providing reasonable airflow based on thermals, if it's the power supply you're kinda boned unless you're ok with doing a little surgery and maybe a little crimping beyond the scope i'm comfortable recommending.

    itd prob be way quieter if you went with like a e5-2600L v2 they dont run very hot even under load

    I'm getting a blue red flashing light on the middle light next to the caution symbol. Every time I try to install any opsys it crashes usually during first 10 seconds of usb boot. Any help would be appreciated.

    1U is very noisy. I have 4 x Dell R620 with full load 24/7 at home. Need to put it in private room.
    Better to use 4U chassis with bigger fan, then you don’t need air conditioner. Save a lot of electricity . I live in Vietnam, temperature here is always 33-37C

    I would like to move my radio station off its current computer to one of these. My question is the ipmi is this something that has to be done? I've never had a server with that all my stuff is older.

    I am considering purchasing this server. Can anyone comment any additional information on how loud the fans are in this machine? Can this be run in an office or does it need to be put in closet or garage?

      i have this one in my home office, and when not under heavy load(4 plus vms maxing out there cores) it is ok...i would recommend placement in a rack in a basement or garage...imho

    Yeah but I feel its too high on TDP for home, I have been trying to make all of my home server stuff extrememly low wattage so instead of these ive been going like with a couple of thin clients and one smaller core i3 which is enough to do all the things I can think of doing

    Is possible to use this chassis with a DDR4 type system board ? And are there other brands other than Hyve for this type of server chassis ?

    I would also like to know power consumption info on this. How does it compare to say an r710?

    • @DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast
      @DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast  2 года назад

      I checked the IPMI and at idle with no VMs running it is pulling 40 watts, with the VMs running its any where between 50-60 watts, and the highest I have seen my setup go is 90 watts.
      The power supply is rated for 400 watts.
      It could vary for you they sell these with many different CPU configurations and you might install different HDDs and/or GPUs than I did. I also do not run anything too intensive to keep the noise down.

    How long is your second SATA cable? I ordered the server but waiting for it to come in and trying to get everything to come in at the same time and assemble it.

    What is the power consumption for the Hyve? Interested in using for PfSense but no one has given what idle/operating watts it runs at

    • @DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast
      @DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast  2 года назад +1

      I'm running proxmox so my numbers might be different and these numbers are from the IPMI and not the wall. At idle with no VMs running it is pulling 40 watts. With the few services I am running I'm seeing about 50-60 watts. The highest I have seen mine go is 90 watts.
      I also took a look at the power supply and it is rated for 400 watts.
      I think it all depends on how hard you plan on using it and what CPUs are installed. With my two E5-2650 v2 and the few services I run it is not using a whole lot of power. For pfsense you could probably get away with fewer cores and a lower clock speed which would ultimately use less power

      @@DeviceCastingCouchTechPodcast Thanks for the reply! Think 1 CPU is going to be the route I take as it will be overkill for a pfsense box anything bigger!!

    Instead of using the GUI for ipmitool.
    Just use the ipmitool cli.
    (memory, cpu, nvme, cmos, and etc sensors)
    ipmitool sdr list
    (setup the next boot)
    ipmitool chassis bootdev bios
    (print fru for system serial number, model, and etc.)
    ipmitool fru print
    (print MGMT interface configs)
    ipmitool lan print
    (power off chassis)
    ipmitool chassis power off
    (print event log)
    ipmitool sel elist
    (console into the host)
    ipmitool sol activate
    (kick someone off the console or if console is stuck)
    ipmitool sol deactivate
    If you want to change your fan speed then you'll have to change the speed through ipmitool raw:
    Example:
    (Change the mode to Full Fan)
    ipmitool raw 0x30 0x45 0x01 0x01
    (Individually change FAN0 or FANA)
    ipmitool raw 0x30 0x91 0x5A 0x03 0x00 0x91
