There’s door knobs in England older then America lol
😂😁😂
The course that London black cab drivers do is called “The Knowledge “ and it’s said that they have better brain ability than doctors lol takes a minimum 2 years to pass. Could be a good video to react to 👍🏻
In Australia we get a lot of TV programming from the US and we make a number of shows ourselves, but a significant portion of stuff televised here is from the UK, so we get a lot of exposure to things like the British countryside, history and culture. A lot of people in Australia still feel British and the Queen is still our head of state. A lot of people have only been here for only a few generations, so we are not that far removed, despite the distance. There are also a crazy number of people here who follow teams playing in the English Premier League.
You guys are our brothers and sisters from across the way
I love that we get some of your programming, we get to see some banging comedians from oz
I love the Australian comedy that we get to see, comedy from the US leaves me cold, sorry. 😔 (Cheshire, UK 🇬🇧)
I was born in Perth Astralia, in 1971 and my brother was adopted there we went back to Scotland when i was 2. I got a lot of hassel in Hong Kong they could not understand that i was born in Perth and lived in Perth Scotland, i was held for 8hrs. Got my ID in the end.
Iv not been back but my brother went on a rugby tour.
We have a Great competitiveness with the Aussies, but of course we Love You as our Cousins!
Regarding the Harry Potter thing, I think it’s mostly a bit annoying that there’s beautiful buildings with hundreds of years of real, living, interesting history, being reduced to ‘omg it’s like Harry potter’
The 11th century is the period from 1001 through 1100.
1099..
@@liveanddirect8585 Samantha is correct - the first millennium ended 31/12/1000, the second 31/12/2000.
I’m glad you realised there is more to the UK than London! 🙌🏻
fun fact! internet in the UK is a tiny bit faster than in the USA
There are people in the US who still use internet dial up.
In Edinburgh there is the Olde side and the new side. So the new side has some newer buildings but the good thing about the UK is in many places new buildings need to be built in the same architecture as the old ones and doesn't look like an eyesore and out of place.
The UK is stunningly beautiful and green, I’d love to go back. Pity they’re experiencing Aussie heat at the moment.
Oh we are back to rain again now 🤣🌧
@@christinedugmore never dull I guess 😹
It's a shame it's only 3 days a year!
@@Clyde__Frog bit more than 3 days kid
The coal was put in a brass pan with a lid and long handle. It was safe the pan was to warm the bed and removed befor the bed was being used. It can get what we call BALTIC so cold iv been in -19 and 8ft high snow, my dog loved getting lost.
Also you would not be aloud to touch a old castle or loads of places in Edinbrgh, its all protected8.
The newest building I saw in Edinburgh was a newly built parliament building and it was jarring how much it didn't fit in with the aesthetic of what's a remarkable and beautiful city.
I live 20 minutes south of Oxford right in the heart of England, it's half an hour to London by train, by car it's an hour to Stonehenge, an hour to the Jurassic coast, an hour to Wales, twenty minutes to the Cotswolds, and close to many other places! I've travelled to lands end, the most south western point of Britain, to the most northern point in Scotland! From where I live both can be reached by car, about five hours to lands end, and seven to the northern tip of Scotland! There are few places in the world where there's such a variety in landscape, in such a short distance.
If you only visit one city in the UK, go to York, the city which AVE new York it's name. Dublin (yes I know that's in Ireland), Edinburgh, and Bath come close! And for scenery, it's a toss up between Pembrokeshire in Wales, the Highlands of Scotland, and the Cotswolds in England.
Can't believe the video left out Skegness. Has one of the most gorgeous beaches in the world...
Love your sarcasm lol, literally biggest traveller sight in the UK
my favourite thing about living in the u.k is the sheer amount of history, from the smallest village to the big cities and everywhere in between has it - on my doorstep i have everything from roman amphitheatres, castles, religious sites.. the list goes on and on and i dont think enough people here appreciate it enough but thats probably because they are so used to it
Every castle has a well, that's the reason there is a castle!
Great video, however he missed out the spectacular North of England. We have some of the best countryside and views (such as the lake district) and historic towns.
There is so much more!
Snowdon is is 1,000 metres, not 10,000 metres!
The Jurassic Coast also contains Cretaceous rocks ( the next geological period), such as the Chalk. It is a World Heritage site because it is where fossils - abundant in the Jurassic rocks - were first really understood.
There are literally thousands of castles all over the UK, and many stately homes. Many of our nobles still live in them; others are run by English Heritage or the National Trust. Many have running water, etc. But the biggest snag about owning a castle is that the planning rules are very strict. You are mostly definitely not allowed to do what you want with them.
But there is so much to enjoy. In the higher and wilder areas of England and Wales you have the Right to Roam; in Scotland there is no law of trespass at all; but a strange piece of our law means that over old pathways you often have Right of Way. These Rights of Way are marked on maps, so you can walk all over our landscape by right, in areas that are often gorgeous. Many of our churches date back to 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, and a church near me is mostly built in 780. ( Not 1780!)
You guys are both looking great! Appreciate the content 🙂
That Castle is extremely renovated inside, electric, water, everything, it’s a tourist attraction.
Sadly what a lot of people from other countries don't realise is the reason London and other uk cities are a mix of modern and old is ww2 and 50, 60s modernization of places that were deemed slums, so much of our beautiful buildings were destroyed during the war due to the blitz and torn down over the following years before a lot became protected for historical significance.
the is running water in eilean donan castle
When he said you can see big Ben that was the houses of Parliament by it and not a mention 😉
History is not erased by pulling statues down. Acceptance of past mistakes is exactly what history is.
Do Ireland it's breathtaking . Stunning landscape and so green hence been called . The Emerald isle ..
11th century is 1000ad - 1100ad
All my ancestors are from the UK Croydon, Yorkshire , Wales and Consett. Unfortunately no convict ancestors
you named a town, county, country and village. bit of a weird structure
austrailia is not geographically in the west but they say austrailia is part of the west politically as they are more politically aligned wit hthe west and are populated by descendents of westerners and their politics are founded in western laws and politics
I live near snowdon in wales. I’ve climbed the mountain many times and it’s in some of the most beautiful places to visit ❤
I live in West Midlands Great Britsain, around 20 miles from Stratford upon avon, and Dudley Castle and Zoo is a mere 3 miles from me x
Greetings from Kingswinford
Most of the Harry Potter films were not filmed in Edinburgh it just happens to be where JKR is from. There are some small tours etc for the die hard fans but over all its not hyped. Northern Island had capitalized more on the sucess of GOT as it was almost entirely filmed there. Even the Queen when there saw the throne but did not sit in it.
Westeros from GoT was named after the island of Wester Ross in the very north of the Scottish mainland.
To answer your comment - there are strict planning laws in UK where you have to seek permission even to change a window frame.!
As regards "tearing a building down" as you suggest, if it's a listed building it would be illegal, even for the local authority to give such permission.
Such an act would most likely end up in prison alongside murderers and rapists.!!
As someone who lives in Edinburgh there are lots of modern buildings in the city but they have to fit in with the older buildings. There is also height restrictions regarding how tall the buildings can be.
There are pubs in the uk twice as old as America.
If the castles are still lived in here they will have running water guys.
That video missed the best place off here which is the lake District.
Yes, this list is just the places he visited.
Black Cabbies know London inside out. Their training is the best and it's called The Knowledge.
“. WHAAAT??? Who the hell do you think you are to ask me that question!! Don’t you know who I am??? “
The cronenancy just didn’t want to answer the question!!!
Most of the UK has castles, there is about 600 just in Wales alone.🏴 The UK is centuries older than America.
Centuries older? lol...i think you will find we are thousands of years older, at least 12,000 years older from the end of the last snap ice age.
@@garymcatear822 Centuries as in the meaning several, if I meant singular I would have said century, that's the difference lol.
@@emmahowells8334 I don't think you're getting my point Emma, several centuries still suggest under 1000 years, when infact it is 12000 years.
@@garymcatear822 The UK is younger than the USA. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland came into being in 1801, which was changed to The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in 1922, following the creation of the Irish Free State (now the Republic of Ireland). The USA came into being in 1776 (the original 13 colonies - its size has increased massively since). If you're thinking of the Kingdom of Great Britain, it's 69 years older than the USA - established in 1707 following the Acts of Union between England (including Wales) and Scotland.
Of course, England and Scotland, as separate entities, are even older than that. The political unification of England was in 953 under Æthelstan, Scotland in 843 under Kenneth MacAlpin, so several centuries is correct in this case (8 and 9 respectively). If you're talking about people living in Britain and Ireland, yes, about 12,000 years. However, people have been living in North America for about 11,500 years.
@@jinxvrs I agree with everything you said in your comment, i am talking about the original inhabitants of the British isles who have been there since the end of the last ice age. The native Americans lost their country when westerners arrived and took it from them and the land later became known as the USA. It is these USA citizens who are saying the UK......f**k it mate i can't be arsed typing anymore.
Nice review 🤓. Birmingham UK 🙌.
I lived next door to the house used for Grimmauld place in Harry Potter & the Order of the phoenix & we used to have coach loads of people turn up, sometimes it was annoying when you wanted to leave the house & people were taking photos.
Regarding peel Castle and the whole 11th century conversation there and the confusion. Just remember in that same century 1066, the battle of Hastings happened and William the conquerer essentially made modern Britain and that wasn't the beginning, just of Norman reign. Its crazy the history we have.
You are not allowed to climb the jurrasic area as the rocks are loose and dangerous and your not allowed to climb on heritage sites it is protected
Snowdon is gorgeous but it is 1085 metres no 10085
Videos always miss off North Norfolk coast
Take a look at The Isle of Mann TT motorbike time trials
Deadliest race in the world
A lot of laws here as to what you can build and where you can build it....most old buildings here are called "listed buildings" and have to be sympathetically restored and almost never pulled down.
Holyrood means holy cross. Holyrood Palace is amazing. Mary Queen of Scots lived there whilst she was Queen.
Yes it has running water and electricity
They said J. K. Rowling Live and wrote the books in Edinburgh it was not filmed there the rail viaduct which is in the highlands so I am not sure what you are talking about?
Newest building in Edinburgh now is the W Hotel, it’s nice but looks like a large emoji 💩
I'm British to the core, and even i think that the clip of Snowdonia is just stunning
So I'm from uk originally ondon but moved to essex
“I don’t know that old”😅
11th century is 10 something, take a hundred off, we are in the 21st century so 2024... 20 something ...
That castle is lived In, and has waterr and amenities
Ps coal bed pans, they put the coal in the bed pan hahaha not actually on your feet that happened all the way up to the early 20th century! Hahaa
Buildings are old, walk inside and they are modern mixed with older features. We have better internet and castles have running water and electricity 😂it's 2022 not 1022. And p.s the answer you were looking for was the 10th century 🏴👍🏻
It’s not Stonehedge it’s Stonehenge.
parts of batman was filmed in nottingham
A lot was filmed in Glasgow, the graveyard scenes were filmed in Glasgow necropolis where all renouned Glaswegians are laid to rest, not for ordinary Glaswegians.
I am actually sick and tired of all the Hollywood movie crews in Glasgow because they close off roads and it takes 20-30 minutes longer to get to were your trying to get too.
One day i was trying to get through Glasgow city center and encountered one film crew making the flash movie so i got diverted, the diversion took me onto another street where i encountered another movie set...this time it was the new Indianna Jones movie so i got redirected again only to bump into yet another film crew which were filming Batman. You'd think 'cool all these hollywood movies being filmed here, but no it was a pain in the arse mate, i ended up an hour late for work because of friggin Hollywood.
Hi from Nottingham uk
Hi I am from wallasey over the river from Liverpool
handyman in Buckingham palace because his Mrs lives in London? yeye alright bro also the Jurassic cost isn't the only natural world heritage site.
isle of man is famouse for the tt races
"Australia not in the West"💀
The Western world is a cultural/racial/historical term not a geographical term....
Basically this term was first used by the ancient Greeks to distinguish themselves from the " eastern" civilization to their well DUH East (babylon, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Assyria, persia...) And as we all know Greek being one of the oldest civilization and arguably the most influential especially on Europe the term Western world was extended by the Romans to most of Europe then it was used by all the continent in the Renaissance - 1500s ,
And ofc we all know that Europe colonized 90% of the world but the countries that were literally built BY some European country (were most influenced) were : American continents (north, south, middle, + the Carribean) & ocesnia (Australia + new Zealand & other islands) those were all formed by some European country and that's their native languages today ...
Basically the Western world :
- Europe
- Oceania
- The AMERICAS (north, south, Carribean)
These 3 continent are tied by history religion language and actually race/ethnicity as lot of those continents have origins from Europe (yes latino isn't a race not ethnicity u can be anything latino like mestizos (half European half native) or Amerindian (pure native) or Hispanic (pure Spanish) or afro-latino....
So yuh that was that, hope u understand
11 century is 1000 - 1099 always 1 back so 16 century is 1500 - 1599
it would be 1001. the year AD started at 1 not 0. So the 11 century would be 1001-1100. I missed this question on a jeopardy game. It asked what year was the beginning of the 19th century. I said 1800 and so did everyone else. But the answer was 1801.
There’s more brits in Australia than Aussie, especially Perth 😅
Yeah there’s a lot of us Poms in WA😂
Only an American would say aliens 😅
1200's is13th century
LMAO we wouldn't let you buy it anyway ... :)
Lot grays Scotland my m8 gray
The only problem with you Americans you talk to much instead of just getting on with the video
I wish he'd learned to pronounce the place names properly...
Hi British guy here, This is just a very small snipet of places to visit.
Anything outside of the overcrowded commercial London is the real UK.
