Hey, I just wanted to let you know that your tutorial made me really happy. Even though there are heaps of online resources that show how to draw faces, this is the only one that made me smile just because I can hear it in your voice that this is something you really love and something that keeps your engine ticking and gives me hope that maybe one day I can comfortably draw at this level and be as happy as you are :) peace
@zippythewildone In my sketchbooks, I always just used pens... I suppose that makes you be more confident with your lines. The purpose of the skull stuff is mainly to drill the proportions into your head. The fleshyness of a face can make it difficult to figure out all of your visual cues for proportions. That is why visualizing the skull is so great. It has such obvious landmarks and visual cues. At the end of the day, just draw a lot of faces and you'll be fine.
I've been binge watching your videos today and I have learned so much. They are incredibly educating and I adore the way you explain everything. It all makes sense! I've been wanting to create semi realistic art recently, rather than cartoon and I really do feel like I will be able to do so, using your tips. Thank you for the amazing content.
I can't thank you enough ... for the first time I was able to draw a semi-decent face , my first time drawing a skull too! so I don't draw digitally I drew the face over a faint skull drawing and it turned out great , which took only 5-10 minutes :) I will go now and practice drawing skulls :D thank you very very much.
You have no idea how useful this was for me. I think I'm pretty decent at drawing. faces aswel, but these small things just put things into perspective for me. (well, not literally.) Hands down, The best video on youtube on how to construct a face. You cover functionality and shapes and placement in one. It improved my visual understanding of the face and skull greatly.
i luv these kinda tutorials draw like a painter, paint like a sculptor, so yeah basiclly u are sculpting ahaahah, btw i discovered Sinixes chanell a week or so ago, did i learnd so much usefull things, thank u so much
I totally didn't care that it was a kinda long video sooo worth every second! It's so hard to find someone that explains things well and can keep and ADHD kid like me fully enthralled for more than 5 mins. Good job man!
Try drawing some ovals and lines to make the jaw Maybe start with the anime jaw then draw an oval for the chin and where the jaw meets the head to get a better jaw Let me know if I said something useful
Yes same here! I've been struggling with semi realism because the shape of the face, I've been drawing in anime style for 4 years its really hard to draw the shape of the face because I've been drawing them too inorganic
you guys dont know alot of ppl then rip :( sinix is awesome but there are many talented ppl whit insane skills i am just here for sinix as a person rly cool guy
Thanks for a very enjoyable video. I admire the sureness of your lines which are so dark, crisp and sharp! What's been most enjoyable, though, is my attempting to go draw along with you; as, basically, everyone draws 'different', I guess; so the faces that came out when I copied yours...were NOT the sort of faces I as a 'beginner' would normally produce. Certainly, I tend to struggle an awful lot with getting proportions right; and, your proportions are therefore far better than is mine. The overall lesson I learned here is...when you try NOT copying...then, you are in effect copying yourself(not a good thing when you're a beginner?!); but, when you copy from others...who, really and truly, know what they're doing; then, you learn one hell of a lot more. ;-)
"when you try NOT copying...then, you are in effect copying yourself(not a good thing when you're a beginner?!)" Very insightful man... I never would've thought about it that way!
the way you're just gigglin to yourself is so cute lmao im gonna die T^T great videos that hold up the test of time! im so watching your whole channel rn lmao
At first, i'll admit, i was like...oh god. Skulls and anatomy and more studying and blehh. But the further i went on...the more inspired i got. So i guess im going to end up picking back up my skull studies after all XD Because drawing expressive and unique faces is my biggest goal amongst my many others
@DarkSaibot88 It's just minor interface differences and control stuff, as well as how the brushes feel. I wouldn't say one is better, and photoshop does a lot of great things with custom brushes that painter doesn't. But overall, I just feel more at home in Painter.
@Lydomina I've tried the guideline stuff far in the past, but this ties into the second part of the question. I only use either a lining pen or a brush pen to do all of my traditional sketching. No room for guidelines there.
That skull has a pretty smile. I'm actually drawing anime too and I'm kind of bad drawing real faces because they always look like kids. This seems a good idea to try it may help a lot with drawing faces and skulls :D!
@554Kathrine It is the "scratchboard tool" you mentioned. Not sure what to say about it feeling different. The more you use a brush, the more comfortable you get with making it behave how you want.
Ok i watched the video half first and stopped and started drawing skulls. I mean a lot of skull, from lots of angle. Its really help and btw now the video is feeling more informative.
Surely a skull can't smile cos its bone and non flexible..a smile is the retraction of the muscular layer over the skull, A jaw can open on the side hinges but there's no lateral movement. Also on your top down view I dont think you'll find the eyeballs projecting out from the eye sockets to that degree. It looks as if the model is tilting his head back, The phrase youre looking for is low angle or up-shot. Thx for the vid
@omanitnathan I don't think my pen pressure is anything special, but if yours feels off to you, be sure to mess with the settings in your Control Panel -> Wacom Tablet Settings.. as well as on the tablet itself. The sensitivity should feel natural to you, so that you're getting the line weight you want instinctively. Painter has a preference setting called "brush tracking" which helps adjust sensitivity. I'm not sure if photoshop has something similar as well.
I enjoyed your video. I wish you can teach me how to draw skulls, its terminology and functions. I think it is absolutely necessary to learn everything about the skull before drawing the flesh that is if one desires drawing from the mind. Many face tutorials I came across are deemed helpful, but always find something lacking. In addition some are like reading a textbook; not as fun to watch. I also like your little I suppose unintentional countenance lessons. And your style is awesome! Thanks!
This is really good and I was so giddy when I already knew some stuff you were talking about. Are you going to do a vid about shading the face? I usually pull and take pictures if mine if I get stuck :/
loving your videos! =]] someone posted it on my sketchbook on conceptart.org for me to improve my brush strokes and I'm just loving your channel... besides having a very fun and awesome style I really dig your narration, hehe... it's sweet and funny xD thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Your videos and tutorials are really so helpful and gives a different perspective on how one can view their own art and improve it, thank you so much for your time in spreading your knowledge! O u O
Great video. Really helpful. I had a thought about half way through the video - it would be cool if you took the traditional anatomical approach and theory and apply them to comic/cartoon characters, so we could see what Homer Simpson, Mickey Mouse, Rick Sanchez, Fred Flintstone etc etc would look like under the skin 🤔👍
i went and watched that first video, Sinix was here so long it's like watching sketchbook progress: their lines aren't as assured yet, the voice hasn't been yet rendered sly from drawing all the lewd pics; it's fun
I can't find the asian girl video. ): I can't go through your likes. And your recent activity doesn't show it. ): On the upside, I have been doing my own of this, and results have actually been pretty good! :) I have learned some key things about my own faces because of this! I always tried to squeeze my eyes into a slit. But now I think of it as near the entire socket, adding flesh accordingly. :) And lots of other stuff. Thanks! You're videos are not magic, but more like a spell book. ;D
Certain disciplines or styles of drawing almost require circles, at least in very rough blocking stages. If you watch Aaron Blaise's videos, who's been animating for 3+ decades, he almost instinctively starts everything with a circle. The goal of Disney-style animation is very granular consistency across very many drawings though, which is very different from painting. And the circles never really make it into the final render, but it's a starting point nonetheless. You don't see as many of those styles of animations being made these days; 2d animation is alive and well, but if you're goal is flawless, buttery-smooth consistency, then learning 3D animation makes much more sense.
Guys, i know it has been said ad nauseum, but it's true: Drawing the skull helps with drawing the face. I don't know how, but after practicing drawing the skull, my faces improved tremendously.
Were these videos sped up? Cause you like rapidly draw lines and undo them until you draw one you like. It's just that you do it so fast, it's crazy, I have to know if it's real
when do u think ur drawing its finished? im still practicing and ur vids r awesome! when im drawing i always think i can do it better! but the prob is.. if i watch my drawing the next and the day after and so on i might change something. i know that a drawing cant be perfect but when do u stop to make changes?
Other artist tutorial: "I first draw a circle"
Sinix: "so we just draw a skull"
me: learns to draw circles properly after a few years
Sinix: don't use circles
*confused screaming*
Lol same
Then don't even go towards ethan Becker
@@arani3395 doesn't Ethan use circles?
@@meeds7473 ethan's favorite quote: "dont you ever use circles"

when you hear him talk it sounds like he's smiling the whole time
Omg that's so true😭
Trueee
Exactly what I was thinking

Hi are you alive

It's porobably the first video ever that literally improved my drawings immediatly.

All skulls look happy.

@Keylup Veintisiete deep
rewatching these videos again! crazy how its been 11 yearss
Man your videos are better than the 3 years of art school I went through. Thank you so much
@D1NOSAWR Oh yeah, I'll just add an annotation to the video. That probably makes the most sense. Thanks for the comment! The link is at 20:00

The skull thumbnail looks happy its just so cute haha
i just realized this was from 10 years ago. your improvements are amazing

Having these vids on in the background has been really helpful :) I even pick up on stuff halfway through a drawing XD
i think sinix is lilke the world's top 10 drawers....seriously this is insanely skilled (and with only a intuos tablet)
+Tao Liu The best thing is that he draws like Kim Jung Gi, no base lines!
You guys should check out Marek Jarocki
+SuperBlueboy2010 I love that dude.
you guys dont know alot of ppl then rip :( sinix is awesome but there are many talented ppl whit insane skills i am just here for sinix as a person rly cool guy
Define nah sinix is def in the top 1% in the world
Really loved your video Sinix! My hand hurts so good from following along and filling up the sketchbook with faces. I am on page 4. Have a great day!
Xavier Ortega did you finished that sketchbook?

@Mygo666 I always just use the background color or white. That way I can color pick quickly back and forth from black and white. It's a lot faster.
its amazing how you can draw so accurately on a tablet, I wish I had your skill.
hope you got them

Pretty nice how you put the lines 1st time in exactly the right spot, and the expression you can give to a line blows me away dude....Awesome stuff ;)
Your art theory tutorials are what's getting me through my funk. Thank you drawing god
Glad you updated, you don't sound all depressed anymore like you did in your first video lol.
If 4 or 5 years ago was outdated back then this is ancient now 💀

Hey thanks for the tutorial, it really helped me!
i knew he looked familiar lol
Great work! I just found out a new world through this! Painting seems way much more fun than I used to think. Thanks!
you should do tutorials on more specific parts of faces. noses eyes ears etc.
+Lorpo doesn't help if you have no fucking clue how to draw an eye lmfao
And that what he did
Really good, great job man, many thanks... I´m coming back to my old hobby, so that´s nice to learn a lot about drawing.

He's making this shit make sense instead of the using the usually tutorial stance on RUclips that employs the "drawing from air and memory " approach.
Super professional guy. Excellent presentation of the material. Top notch, thank you sir!
I always rewatch this video, it is great!
looks like samurai champloo in a good sense
love your art
You're like the X of art. It's awesome!
Hey Sinix, This video helped a lot. Filling my sketch book with skulls now.
Thanks.
@554Kathrine It is the "scratchboard tool" you mentioned. Not sure what to say about it feeling different. The more you use a brush, the more comfortable you get with making it behave how you want.
I tried this for the first time a while back and it worked, I haven't done it in awhile but it helps so much :D
God damn he’s been doing this for like 13 years now

How i didn't find this channel earlier? its so helpful!
We need a drawing bodies redux :D.
Helped allot, would be cool to see some coloring and shading tutorials
SINIX, jesus christ. this is amazing.

@Lydomina No, but I skateboard goofy for what that's worth.
This is teaching me more than art class ever did lol
This is really good and I was so giddy when I already knew some stuff you were talking about. Are you going to do a vid about shading the face? I usually pull and take pictures if mine if I get stuck :/
You sound very jolly!
Thanks!
I like this idea of thinking of organic shapes and lines. i just realized thats whats making my art look off
loving your videos! =]] someone posted it on my sketchbook on conceptart.org for me to improve my brush strokes and I'm just loving your channel... besides having a very fun and awesome style I really dig your narration, hehe... it's sweet and funny xD thanks for sharing your knowledge!
wow I find drawing faces so much easier now, skulls.. who knew!
How to draw a skull:
1. Draw a not-circular shape
2. Draw the rest of the damn skull
Your videos and tutorials are really so helpful and gives a different perspective on how one can view their own art and improve it, thank you so much for your time in spreading your knowledge! O u O
This was good tip :D. Thanks.
Very good tutorial. Started to follow your advise yesterday and I improved skill almost instantly. Thanks for enlightening me.

But Proko said in his "drawing head" video that do it 20 times but try to get a close to perfect circle.
the cranium is more circular from front view,
I used to tell myself to understand the skull first then i was like nahhhh thats a lot of learnin
Brilliant
simply wow!
9:50 scared the shut outta me
i got scared when u were flashing from skull to flesh. O_O
i caught on perfectly though, perfect vid.

WOW this really helpful thanks! but my only wish is that you would go more in-depth on the 3/4 view cause im having trouble figuring it out.
I like this video alot brother!!!
no offence but you are like spongebob drawing a circle........awesome video ....helped a lot...;3

The best thing in your tutorial is, no circle, I always fail drawing circle, even simple one..
perfect swirl at the beginning..... ive already failed XD
thanks so much!! so helpful to me :D
wow, this is great! must try this. Thank you!

if you dont have unique artstyle this method wil work/helpfull to start draw face
this was pretty great, thank you
very helpful - thank you!
Thank you! This has helped me immensely and got me back into art!!
Damn.. thought id be first to comment lol... great vid... keep em coming... by the way, you seem to prefer Painter 9 to photoshop... why is that?
