I remember, when we were just kids. My family and all the families in that area. Didn't lock their doors. Now, as a single mom. I did what I could to protect my children. From self defense all the way to having a license to carry. Buying a dog... Making sure there is a weapon in every room of my house. To even buying a Ring camera just to keep watch.
That story, made me check on my 19 year old daughter. That can handle herself pretty well. Five Times!!! After the 4th time. She woke up.
It is 3am. I got off work late. Came home. Decided to chill, have some hot tea and listen to this story. Well,, damn....
Ok... I will be adding something stronger to my tea.
Plus, apologizing to my daughter, again.

Oh, MAN...I saw where this was going and was truly horrified by this story, by about the hour mark or so. Brilliant narration, and I was most horrified by how callous the man was to his daughter just so he could pursue the scoop that would get him back on top of the dog pile. The fact that he was convinced that it was for the better for them both was what really had me saying "Ohh, no no no NO. Go check on her, you idiot!!!" I think we all can relate to that whether we have children or not. Well done, sir!

Obviously the MC isn’t just some normal parent. Think of him like a gambling addict. His kid trying to get him to check her room was like a concerned friend pulling their mate away from the blackjack table.
They are way down for the night but convinced they can win it back. In his head, his daughter could wait. She was prone to nightmares and this sort of thing. In his head, he’s like ‘it’ll be nothing’
It’s deliberate that he’s so oblivious cos if he did go up... he’d have been killed too and there would have been no story

Well, Guys... I know this is a fucking brutal one. For anyone who’s watched/read Stephen Kings The Outsider when discussing the murder of Frankie. I think the graphic severity of what happened to the boy just stuck with me. Just aiding to the dread when ‘the doppelgänger’ is luring the other kid to the cave cos I know what he’s going to do with him.
So yeah that’s why I hammered home all the graphic details so when the MC makes the discovery in the bedroom at the end, your imagination fills in the blanks from the earlier parts of the story.
However, I’m no Stephen king so maybe I didn’t get hit that target. But I’m glad that most of you enjoyed.
Yes the ending is a tad predictable. But I was going for irony; the MC being a hypocrite as he judged the scientist treatment of the subject.
Also I’ve let myself down a bit here. Small details that probably went over most peoples head but a few of the dates are all over the place. This story was written about 2 years ago for another channel but they wanted to make changes so I obliged. But as changes were made some other details weren’t and it’s harmed the continuity. I DID proof it and change them... but I’ve saved the new copy to OneDrive and emailed a hard copy to the doc. Which was before the amendments. Can only apologise for that.
Anyway, glad you took the time to listen!
Got another crime investigation story series in the works for this channel. Watch this space !

So if you haven’t listened to my Special Agent James Rodriguez playlist, go try them ... there’s a playlist with all the stories that happen in the same universe on my YT channel!
I’d say The White Van Man and Mr Zander are similair to this. The rest are the Robert Cassidy serial killer stories and spin offs. All are in chronological order bar one. Genesis takes place first but best listen to AFTER the ex husband prison story

The murder that introduces the murderer is a slight alteration of a real one that happened in the UK in the early 90s. "Murder of James Bulger" on Wikipedia if you dare.
And I mean IF YOU DARE. I'm not one to do "trigger warnings" but this messed me up for a couple days when I first heard of it in early 2009. The most unbelievable part of this story is it's version of that case is somewhat toned down.

The worst part about this is, "downloading something" is just copying it from one place to another.
If you download you brain into another body, it doesn't move you, it copies you. You would die then someone with your memories would take over your life. That copy wouldn't even realize it is not the original. It would thank the doctors for saving it's life, kiss you wife and then go on to live your life.

Well I used a lot of real life events for the story, as I do for all my criminal horror stories.
The plot in of itself was loosely based on the babysitter urban legend (which is based on a true story itself) the Timmy Wells case was based on the murder of Jamie Bulger in Liverpool.
But yes the killer was loosely based on the same as the showtime killer. BTK. His first murder he broke into the home of a family and killed them all while some of them watched.
But as BTK is kind of a serial killer that’s always fascinated me the most, his influence will often be noticeable across my work of this genre
