Sounds like the brake servo went on the linked brakes. A common enough problem on this model. So unless your brake fluid had drained out, all the lines are still there, just like in a car with the engine off, you have to provide much higher pressure on the pedal and handle to get the brake to work. But they will still work. Once you get used to those servo assisted brakes, it's very daunting when it fails and you have to apply much much more pressure.
I had my bike recovered from Applecross to Shetland after a minor spill, and broken arm! The insurance did not want to recover my bike and said recovery to Aberdeen only not Shetland. My policy said return to base in UK from anywhere in Europe, they backed down and delivered my bike to my house in Shetland, and reimbursed my rail fares. Go with Carrol Nash you will get proper return to base or repair breakdown/accident insurance and be sure when you buy a policy to make sure it gives the cover you need and don't be fobbed off.
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt even if you're policy gives you certain rights insurance companies will often try to avoid admitting it, this is not helped by poorly trained 'agents' dealing with claims.
ABS pump failure was a common problem on numerous BMWs back in the day such that many people used to bypass/remove the pump due to the exorbitant price of a replacement unit. Never heard of anyone losing all their brakes though; scary. Personally I won't now touch BMWs due to the numerous problems I had on my last BMW an R1200GSA which I loved riding but just couldn't trust it. Numerous friends have also left the marque due to reliability problems and the exorbitant labour and OEM part costs from franchised dealers at that time.
I do love the RT tho and should be ok with 2018 model plus they also gave me 2yrs full BMW warranty which fully covers me for everything. So that's the first 2yrs worry free 🤣 Ride Safe mate
Known fault on BMW ABS problems. Up to late 2006 they had power assist brakes. Nippy normans sell a conversion for under £100. My late 2007 has a different non assist ABS system but that is crap as well. Lucky when the thing went wrong the brakes run normally except for the ABS.
Enjoy your new bike sir. Just watched your video on the NC500 , very good. Been up there about 15 years ago on my Vmax, going to do it again in 2022 on my Busa gen 2 . Subscribed to your channel. Hope you and all your mates enjoy trips up here to the North of Great Britain. Tommy in Glasgow. HAPPY DAYS! 🇬🇧🏴
The price of spares is one of the reasons for the high level of bike theft. The manufacturers do their customers no favours (although Royal Enfield don't try to screw theirs to the same extent as the other makes). After your experience there is no way I would be replacing the RT with another BMW no matter how well it fits...
BMW sorted it out eventually, and certainly bikes from 2010-on are absolutely fine. All manufacturers have vulnerabilities, remember Honda and their cam-chain tensioners? And to be fair to the brand, most R-series beemers are doing well over 100k miles with very few issues.
Wow Steve I was thinking you had run off the face of the earth as I hadn't seen any blogs for a while . Now that's a fine looking machine and I know you will have many trips to look forward to on it . Saying that it will be soon time to put it away for a few months with winter coming upon you over there . I was talking to my cousin in Hagworthingham and they had a dusting of snow today so don't head up there for your coffee break . With that I will say goodnight as it's bedtime for me now , take care stay safe and healthy . Mal,in Australia
Hi Mal we also had snow today and the rides are becoming less and frequent all the time now as winter approaches which I believe means summer for you lucky people. Stay safe my friend.
Hi Steve. It is so lucky that you are a very experienced bike rider. Had you not been, the ending could have been a lot different. I have forwarded your video to a friend of mine who is a vehicle examiner at DVSA because I think they should know about this. On the subject of recovery, I had the same issue with my wife's car some years ago. They would only take the car to the nearest garage (within 10 miles) where it could be repaired. I think it is quite common but until you need it you don't know that you could be left in a town or country garage with no way too get home. Quite shocking. Anyway some good has come of it because now you have an even better bike that looks brilliant.
Could have been a lot worse your right and felt I had to mention recovery as thst was not a good experience either and like you say people just think they will be taken home. Thanks Mike
I've been on every forum that I am a member and inform everyone because everyone thinks they are covered and your not. Thanks for highlighting this because I even got some abuse of certain members also stating I was wrong...
Thanks for spreading the word Ray appreciate that. I'm afraid as like myself you don't realise you don't get recovery all the way home UNTIL you actually need to be, ride safe my friend.
So sorry to hear about your scare but delighted to see you treated yourself to the new bike. We now have exactly the same model. A quick tip is to keep the revs up. Despite having bucket loads of torque from tick over upwards it does like to be ridden like a 2 stroke. You might want to think about a bigger screen than the standard sport screen. I'm a bit taller than you but a bigger screen has taken away wind noise and buffeting. Having an electrically adjustable screen is brilliant because you can raise it when getting a move on and lower it in towns or on hot days at will. Happy riding. A great choice of bike, are you wondering why you hadn't done it before yet?
Nice replacement, shame the other had to go but I would do the same. I would love another boxer but the Yamaha Tracer 700 will have to do for now. Glad to have you back Steve.
Great story but for me it underlines why I don’t ride BMWs ( Buy More Warranty). Great to ride but risky to own. Been riding Hondas for 30 plus years and yet to have a breakdown.
Hi Steve, love your new bike, I have had a 2014RT and 2016RT, love them. I still have the 2014 but there is one weakness which you will inevitably find. Its the exhaust flap valve which seizes. Happened on both of mine. BMW will recommend a complete set of downpipes as the flap valve is at the silencer end of the pipe. Solution is easy and in fact I would recommend doing it before it fails. Remove the silencer. look up the exhaust, there is the flap valve. take off the small plastic cover, (2 screws) slack back the control cables and ease the end nipples out of the control wheel, refasten the outer cables back into place. tuck the now loose cables away below the operating wheel. confirm the valve is in the fixed open position. replace the plastic cover and exhaust. the ECU will not know the valve is disconnected, the exhaust will sound better and it will cost nothing!!! Regards, Alex
Hi Alex this problem has already happened about 6 weeks ago and BMW replaced the whole exhaust system with all new and didn't cost a penny as have a full 2yr warranty. Please tell me it wont reoccur on the new exhaust and they have ironed out why it happens. Thanks for the instructions my friend.
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt Hi Steve, it will reoccur, please don't worry about it, just do as I have set out above, if it helps I have had to do it to a 2014, a 2016 and next week I am trading in for a 2019 R1250RT, love these bikes but if I, at 75 years old, can sort out disconnecting the flap valve operating cables and leaving it permanently open I am sure you will find it no bother at all. The bonus is the bike runs better after the modification 🙂
Did your bike have the “whizzy” brakes where the servo motor whines when you apply the brakes? If you did, when the pump fails you still have what BMW call ‘residual braking’. The problem is when you are used to the servo brakes, you have to stand on the foot brake and have a gorilla grip on the front brake to get some braking. If you only apply normal pressure it’s as if there are no brakes. You can get the servo removed and have normal braking but without ABS for £200-300. Been there!
Trust me Keith I was jumping on back brake and squeezing front brake as hard as I could but there was nothing my friend and loads of people have said about just removing ABS all together but I had no trust in this model after that happened. Ride safe mate.
A common problem... On the earlier models, a bit like the rust. Had mine completely removed at a local shop. Like you already mentioned, can't believe it was never on a re call 👍
Wow, the what ifs are endless with that mate. My RT got terminated a month ago (and I nearly went with it), when I was sat at the rear of some stationary traffic on the motorway and a young woman drove straight into me from behind. Carol Nash is my go to insurance. I got recovered from Knutsford to Norwich, over 200 miles, free of charge. I was at a biker rally so even arranged for the recovery to be delayed by two days so as not to miss the event. Brilliant service always. Lovely bike, hopefully I’ll be getting one sometime in the new year.
Pleased about your recovery mate that is great service to be able to ask when you want it. Great news that your ok could have been a lot worse and wishing you a speedy replacement my friend
Just made the same leap of faith. Replaced my wonderful 2006 RT with an almost new 2018 that I found. A very nice upgrade, wonderful motor and suspension, the wet clutch and integrated gearbox works great and nice improvement. But I must say that being an old guy now...I miss the switchgear simplicity of my old RT. Just a few simple buttons for everything from ESA to grips and seats being heated. All the buttons and switches and rotary joy knob on my new RT is working on my last nerve.
They are an amazing machine Frank but have to agree there's a lot of gadgets to get your head around. I miss heated grips button but there is a way to make that easier, don't know if you've watched my review of the bike and guide through the menu system but worth a watch if not. Ride Safe my friend.
Hi Steve Just to let you know I'm the proud owner of a BMW R1200 RT 2015 . After 12 months with the Honda CB500 X I missed the Beemers to much and now I'm in remission the specialist said go out and enjoy life, well tags what you do on a Beemer . Now with the summer upon us I'll be out on it as much as possible . I wish I new how to send you a photo but I think it's not much different from your new one . Ride safe ,take care Mal in Australia
Good choice Mal enjoy riding in the summer over there, we are at the stage of winter so as you know we will only get out odd days now if out at all. Ride Safe my friend from Oz.
I think I would have eliminated the ABS and turned it into an ordinary non-assisted braking system, should be just a case of changing some hoses, plumbing it all up the same way brakes used to be done before ABS came along.
Every single ABS I've owned except the one on my '20 Zero has had problems. No problems when 'disconnected'. All these expensive 'upgrades' you have to pay for are mostly expensive sales and marketing gimmicks and extra stuff to break down :(
Sweet ride Steve. I always had sort-tourer's until a hamstring issue forced me to go to a bit smaller bike. I had a 2013 Yamaha FJR and now after a short 2 yr period with a 2020 Speedmaster have a brand-new T-120. I guess I'm not a cruiser kind of guy.
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt Hi Steve, yeah it's the 2019 1250RT. It's now done 17k and sadly has spent more time in the dealer than in my garage. You might remember hu had issues when I was in Romania in 2019. Since then issues with flapper valve and exhaust system. Electrical issue/software. The big one and yes you guessed it right, Brakes... Issues with front brakes the icing on the coke was warped discs after 16k. However to my suprise they said it was wear and tear, but the joke here was god front pads were fine turns out its an issue withe god Hill assist. When the warranty runs out in March I will change. I have been considering the new NT1100 I also considered the Goldwing 👍👍👍
Blimey Paul what have I let myself in for. Thankfully I have a 2 yr full BMW warranty which fully covers me. Will see how it goes, your brave mate to do all the touring you and Ray have done with all those problems. The NT1100 is getting some really good reviews Paul I will watch what you go for next year, ride safe pal.
Hi Steve. Been on many journeys with you On the 06 rt. Shocked about the break failure and insurance But glad your safe. At least the newer one is stunning And you can continue your journeys next year. Look forward to seeing your walk around. Ride safe my friend. Old dave.
I had been browsing through my subscription list last night came upon your name and thought “ haven’t seen or heard much from yourself. Thankfully you survived the experience of brake failure, and found out to your cost about the breakdown recovery. However after all that you have one absolutely beautiful new ( to you) bike Health to enjoy the new steed and look forward to your future Adventures Safe travels Steve and if we don’t hear from you before Christmas have a good un and a very happy New Year.
Thank you very much Norrie appreciate that my friend and yeah not the best of days that one lol. But here's to new adventures ahead eh. Wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas and all the best for 2022.
Congratulations on the new stead Steve. I ride a 2021 rt blood bike. Fantastic piece of kit. You're absolutely correct about the extortionate prices charged at main dealers. Luckily we have a specialist quite local who looks after ours. Enjoy it steve
Had the servo fail on my R1150RT whilst riding down a ramp to an underground carpark at the hotel I was staying at. My fault as I stalled the engine because the bike was in the wrong gear. I had no idea I would loose the brake assistance when the engine stopped so proceeded to race down the ramp towards a 90' turn whilst frantically pressing the engine start button with the clutch in praying it would start before I met the wall at the bottom. Survived that one and now am also the owner of a R1200RT LE and continue to be astonished at the price of parts BMW charge. £600 for a sat nav to fit the cradle, £1150 for the topbox with stop light and painted to match the bike colour.
Kin el Steve you are one lucky guy thank god you was where you was buddy. Thanks for the heads up on the brake down cover I’ll be checking mine before I renew in 2 weeks. I’m sure you are going to enjoy your new bike for a few years to come mate. And we all look forward to watching you future video and enjoying being with you on you travels buddy. You take care now hope you bump into you (no literally) somewhere on the road buddy.
You smashed that video, well done Steve! The RT is my favourite bike, but I own a 98 r850r and they had problems back in the fast with abs pumps and many people just cut the pump out of it and fitted braided lines. That being said the same problem shouldn't have been going on in layer bikes. They should know better. Not good enough when it comes to safety at the highest degree failing. Congrats with the banger of a video👍😉
Bit scary mate brakes failing nice new bike hope you enjoy it, still got the st 1300 still in good condition for year keep safe mate cu in next video the fev rider
Had a 05 1200lt. Well under warranty it racked up $10,000 in repairs. That was 50% of bikes original value. When I traded it off it was showing signs of needing another $3000 in parts. If bmw would address known issues and parts cost they might get me on another one of there bikes. The KTM I replaced thr bmw with just had its first failure after 11 years and 100,000 miles.
Nice one Steve. Glad you got off unscathed!! Love the new bike and very nearly traded in ours for an RT1250 but went for 2018 K1600GTL instead. Ride safe abd can’t wait to see the next video
Thanks for the heads up, im with Carolenash but will check. Also well done with keeping the old BMW upright. A less experienced rider would have been in serious trouble.!
I've had exactly the same problem on my 07 rt Steve, but it's only the ABS that's stopped working, brakes work fine, still passes mot so I've decided to save myself 2k and live with the non ABS model😄 Jelous of the new bike tho mate👍
@@daviddarbyshire5846 I would advise you to have it fully checked out David as after this happened to mine, the brakes came back enough for me to ride it (cautiously) to the dealer to have it checked and they told me that the problem can act intermittently i.e. fail, work for a while then fail again. Not worth the risk my friend.
Top vid mate as usual, thats a cracking bike you've bought there,as regards the ins as you probably now know, you had the same as me "Basic"and we need the "Plus" its £25 rips extra ;-) Ride Safe Mr B \m/
Exactly Plus is what you need but I hope I've helped a few people realise through my cost. Good thing with the new one I got 2yrs full BMW warranty which fully covers me for everything. Ride Safe mate
thanks for the vid. checked my brake down and yep thank you my friend for the warning. sorry about the expense you went though. but your new bike does look awesome. 🍻
Nice one Mark the reason for doing the vid was to warn others and hopefully for them to not have to fork out additional money as I did. Pleased I've helped my friend. Ride Safe.
Collared on to your vids last year and find they are really enjoyable, in a slightly different way to other bike vids, I like that yours has not become a commercial exercise. I'd have to say though, you're exceptionally loyal- after having had brake failure and survived the impending near miss, then having been given a near 2 grand fix, think I'd be firstly seeking legal advice and without doubt a different brand as replacement. New bike may well the have same brake components... It doesn't matter what bike, just that you ride - and be comfy obviously!
Cheers Alan pleased you enjoy the vids mate and those brake parts were modified after 2007. The new one also came with the full BMW 2yr warranty so gonna see how it goes my friend.
Good to see you back Steve. Looking forward to some more of your adventures with your mates. Price of some parts really bares no resemblance to value even including a healthy profit.
Well done for not letting overcome you and being able to stop safely! What a beautiful bike, you will enjoy it and appreciate the improvements. So good to hear from you and I look forward to your future videos.
Scary stuff Steve but glad you controlled the situation. I had a problem with brakes on an 1150RT and was supposed to be looking at a 64 plate RT on Friday but not sure now… Great video btw 👍👍
Made the right choice Steve and glad you managed to ‘coast it’ to a stop. Your correct the brakes are something that you can lose confidence in when they suddenly fail, enough to rethink a replacement. My 20 year old K1200rs began to show signs of ABS failure so it had to go, sad because otherwise I loved it at it was brilliant bike. The cost to replace was just too much. In the last year I found an old 08 R1200gsAdv and it came factory with no ABS or Dynamic suspension only heated grips so it’s kind of future proofed to degree with being able to keep it on the road. And not costing a kings ransom to sort any technicalities along the way. Your new bike looks brill mate and nice to see you made the RT choice, as it is fantastic bike especially all year round. Safe riding fella. 👍
Enjoy your new bike, I love the RT, I bought one with 86 miles only on it!! It was fully loaded, it was a lovely bike and ticked all the boxes, however, at 6'2' tall I found the leg room a little cramped for me, especially on a distance ride. Eventually sold it and went back to an Adventure bike, but it's a great machine. Hope you have many happy and safe miles on your new RT.
BMW ABS pumps and fuel strips from a certain era are notorious for failing. The new RT looks lovely, I always think they look better in the flesh than on screen. They don't quite appeal to me yet, though, I'm quite happy with my 2007 R1200R for the moment (and yes, both the fuel strip and ABS packed up, but I managed to fix the ABS for about £25). Happy riding, Steve, might see you out there one day.
The less fancy gizmos on a bike the less to go wrong .I have been riding for around 50 years never needed ABS just feathered the brakes off & on if felt them locking up .My new bike has abs but not by my choice ,given the choice I would chose a non ABS bike with carburettors any day .But these days due to daft EURO specs we get no choice in the matter .Having said all that if you must have a BMW the RT is the one to go for ,so enjoy many good safe miles of riding 👍
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt cracking colour... bit more exciting than BMW black, grey or dark blue! I had the upper fairing (the grey bit on yours) painted the same red as rest of bike. I love it, but some may not. Hope you enjoy getting to know the new bike... 👍🏻
Nope, I got recovered through our Bank AA . The not so recently fitted new clutch had spun loose- not within a mobile mechanics universe really. But I got home with the bike on it. Then fixed the clutch myself. Funny but the old singles suffered from insufficiently tightened crank and clutch nuts and tab washers.
I am still in shock, you were very lucky to escape, the brake failure, without damage to yourself. The failure of such a part, on a BMW or any other bike. A recall and replacement, at the manufacturer cost, would be as a matter of course..Another BMW would not have been my choice after your experience..
The Bmw abs pump is garbage, and they know it. Make sure you get the fluid changed every year no matter how much mileage done, would also get rid of the BMW rubber hoses, these drop to bits internally, fit new braided lines.
Had a similar think happened to me on the NC 500 tour. My key snapped in the ignition of my vfr 800 and i had the top recovery from the rac was also insured with Bennetts. Because i still had the key they and it wasn't lost they said it wasn't a break down. But if i wanted to be recovered it would of costs me £1900 to get me home i was on the isle of skye on a Sunday. Luckily enough one of the lad's that i was with had a similar problem with he's key on a different honda and managed to get it to start so finished the tour by undoing the battery every night. So obviously I'll never have anything to do with Bennetts and rac ever again. Love the new bike by the way enjoy
Bit of a tip Steve is tape a spare battery for your fob to underneath the cubby lid, nothing worse than when the battery dies and you cant find the BMW sweetspot behind the dash,,,(Trust me I know) ,Enjoy the new nice bike pal and get some vids up 👍🏍🏍
Life's a short book fill the pages with fun and enjoyment . The motorbike is brilliant miles of smiles to come😀😀😀😀😀 You deserve it for all the hours of content you have put out for years . Ride safe mate 👍👍
A couple of years ago I used a 2005 RT to ride to work every day 136 km roundtrip. I always used to buy older bikes to do this as I also ride in the winter to work. I had the same problem. My brakes didn't fail luckily but the ABS pump was gone. I also found the price to be absurd. Even aftermarket pumps were ridiculously expensive. So I indeed also traded it for an other bike. The problems seems to be the maintenance. If the brake fluid doesn't get flushed annually this is bound to happen. The previous owners must have neglected that.. Anyway glad you didn't crash!
Glad you’re ok Steve. That could have easily been fatal and very poor of BMW not recalling these and fitting the better 08 version. Your new liquid called is a fantastic bike. Lots of bed time reading with the owners manual, and it is worth keep playing around with the integration on the sat Nav and bike settings because once you get used to it you can enjoy even more. Plus as bought from BMW dealer you should have full two year warranty and proper roadside assist incl Europe! Worth its weight. Looking forward to watching more of your adventures with the new bike!
Looks really nice mate. sorry to hear about your problem with the 06 bike but to be honest I've seen lots of them with the abs removed so I don't think your on your own. Looking forward to seeing more of this one, all the best mate
Hi Steve, glad to hear you managed to bring the old bike to a stop without dropping it and causing more damage to the bike and yourself. As with some of the other comments the price of spares and labour is scandalous. Good luck with your new bike and I'm sure you'll get many years of enjoyment from it and also we will be along with you to enjoy as well. Take care and good luck. 👍🏍🏁
Blimey ! what a story, but the old bike looks immaculate, did you get a decent P/X for it and take into consideration it needed a pricey repair, have been caught out with that 10 mile breakdown, but now have full cover with the AA for relay included, new bike looks brilliant, how high is the seat ?
I had exactly the same issue with Bennetts breakdown cover but back in those days it was an optional extra, where now it comes with your insurance. It still costs you, as they will have loaded your premium to cover the cost (you get nowt for free). Treat yourself to some proper breakdown cover, well worth it for the miles you do. I have AA and got recovered 120 miles from Anglesea to home, which would have cost me way more than a few years worth of cover, so well worth it in my book. Mmmm: break failure. only ever had it once, luckily it was in the car, but I had no warning and shoved it in the back of a 40 TON truck, thankfully it was at low speed and I walked away, I've NEVER bought another Renault since. Typical of BMW to make it so you can only fit their over priced SHAT NAV. Hope you enjoy many miles on the new stead.
Thanks for taking the time to leave such a long comment my friend and at the moment the new bike has FULL BMW warranty which fully covers me for everything for the next 2 years but after that I will be taking out seperate cover like you say. Ride Safe fella
You had me there at the beginning I was waiting for a BMW rant for a minute! Well done for keeping your cool and bringing it to a successful stop. Sounds like a good reason to get a new bike to me! Enjoy you new bike Steve ! Four years ??? Where did that go? (PS sorry l'm 'late' missed this one in the notifications)
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt If it was me, if you get the chance to extend that warranty I would in a heartbeat. (I'm not saying that because it's BMW it applies to other 'Premium brands just the same) BMW prices on parts (cars or bikes) are never cheap, I watch a 'Senior Technician' for BMW in the States and he recommends Extended warranties even on brand new bikes. I would also get it serviced by Pidcocks, as I think the recommended brake fluid change is every other service or so. (If memory serves it's mineral based, not your normal DOT4/5 stuff) Just be careful if you are doing stuff yourself, especially with the electronics side of things. Good tip about the Recovery by the way, I've heard horror stories of similar while on tour on the continent.
O.M.G Steve imagine you were barreling up to a stonked roundabout on the M.6 , our local shop is full of B.M.W . at one time there was 5 G.S.Sin it , enough said, take care Mate
Great to hear all was well in the end Steve, and you were safe. The new bike looks awesome and I'm pretty sure it will be a great bike for many more miles out awesome videos ahead. Stay safe! 👍👍
I got stung too by my insurance company (MCE) the day after I bought my bike. Was about 60 miles away from home just outside Matlock when I got a puncture and also ran out of CO2 so couldn't pump the tire back up. Insurance said £270 to get the bike home as it takes 10 days for the breakdown cover to kick in on my policy. Next day I made a complaint and then cancelled my insurance with MCE and went with another company. I now pay £45/year for a separate breakdown cover which is far better, no distance limit from home, no extra cost. Rip off Britain again. Makes you sick insurance and how the whole thing is just a money stream for the bankers. FastyRides
I used to drive for a company that had a Volvo truck that would suffer random brake failure, took them ages to cure it as it kept failing. Some substandard designers in the braking department at these companies. BMW definitely appear to be sitting on that fault with crossed fingers. Nice new bike, hope it gives many new adventures. Safe travels.
Lucky the roads were clear up in't thills with no brakes good bit of calm riding. New bike looks good, parts and service prices are ridiculous from most big manufacturers, enjoy stay safe 🏍👍

I really enjoyed your video Steve particularly the route you took through bawtry! I regularly ride that route some nice sweeping roads glad you got sorted with your new bike too it looks really smart 😊
Hey up Steve congratulations on ya new bike. Abs pump on early models was ripe, paintwork on later models especially engine and trailing arms but not as serious. Glad your ok after brake failure and looking forward to new vids with the crew keep well Fella in a bit.
Glad you got it stopped, could have been nasty. BMW had a similar problem on earlier bikes, not good for such a premium bike manufacturer. Friend of mine had the same happen and he too sold it for a Yamaha, no trust. I had a bad experience with Bennetts to which I now avoid, insured through IAM Roadsmart and sort my recovery out separately so I cover all vehicles and know what I'm getting. BMW should've had a recall on that fault in my book, not good. Stay safe and Keep it Upright!
Gosh, I bet that was a scary moment when you realised it was complete failure, I don’t think I would have been able to remain calm. Least you managed to safely stop. That’s a great cafe, when I last commented I was about to take my mod2 test, luckily I passed! I’ve been exploring Derbyshire for the past couple of months just getting used to being by myself and really enjoying it. Thanks for the videos, they have been a great source of inspiration for the new hobby

Brakedown cover what a rip off, thanks for warning us Steve, hope the new bike behaves its self, and yes looking forward to seeing you out on your trips on it .All the Best
Lovely new bike! I disconnected the ABS on an old GS I had. If I remember correctly, at the time ABS was either an option or at least a “new feature”. My friends at the time said that ABS shouldn’t be trusted in those early days of implementation. Not like today when abs is mandatory on new bikes. Glad you were able to stop safely.👍
Nice looking bike Steve, I do like the newer styling, front end looks angry. @@Steve-Clark-1200rt My mate Andy was riding one on our NC500 trip, noticed it a lot when he was behind me, the lights are brilliant as well, the 2 round units have halo rings which look really cool, stay safe my mate.
Thanks for the info my friend.

Still can't believe there were no call backs on that system my friend.
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt Agree there should have been a major recall
Enjoy your new bike sir. Just watched your video on the NC500 , very good.

Hope you and all your mates enjoy trips up here to the North of Great Britain.

We all love Scotland Thomas best part of the UK by far for riding Bikes. Thanks for the sub mate.
Have to agree, I wouldn't be buying another one.

Thanks for all the tips my friend will look into a larger screen to. Ride safe my friend.
Nice replacement, shame the other had to go but I would do the same. I would love another boxer but the Yamaha Tracer 700 will have to do for now. Glad to have you back Steve.
Thanks John and ride safe mate.
Excellent video Steve... so glad you managed to safely stop. Looking forward to your next travels. Mack, Huddersfield
Cheers Mack hopefully many adventures ahead my friend.
Great story but for me it underlines why I don’t ride BMWs ( Buy More Warranty). Great to ride but risky to own. Been riding Hondas for 30 plus years and yet to have a breakdown.
Yeah Stephen I had a Pan European for 12 years and no probs. I do have a FULL BMW 2 year warranty on the new one.
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt fair play it’s a lovely looking machine. I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks Alex really appreciate that my friend.
I still can't believe there was no recall my friend. Ride safe

I think I would have eliminated the ABS and turned it into an ordinary non-assisted braking system, should be just a case of changing some hoses, plumbing it all up the same way brakes used to be done before ABS came along.
Yes Dave loads of people mentioned ABS removal mate.

Thanks Peter shame about the leg situation for you mate. I am loving the new one cheers.

Blimey ! what a story, but the old bike looks immaculate, did you get a decent P/X for it and take into consideration it needed a pricey repair, have been caught out with that 10 mile breakdown, but now have full cover with the AA for relay included, new bike looks brilliant, how high is the seat ?
Hi David Pidcocks gave me 3400 which was a lot more than I expected but it wont cost them 2000 to fix will it LOL and its the standard height seat.
That’s a beauty! Well done 👍
Thanks Mihai appreciate it.
No worries Paul and at least with the new one I have 2yrs full BMW warranty which fully covers me for everything. 👍 Ride Safe mate.
Thanks Fred
Great to hear all was well in the end Steve, and you were safe. The new bike looks awesome and I'm pretty sure it will be a great bike for many more miles out awesome videos ahead. Stay safe! 👍👍
Thanks Nelio new adventures await

Cheers Chris new adventures ahead eh
Hi Steve lovely bike iam glad you are OK injoy the new bm they are great to ride I have 07 rt it's had upgraded brakes ride safe and injoy 👍
Pleased to hear about your brakes Martin, ride safe mate.
FastyRides
Totally agree with all you say fella a massive scam, I to have seperate cover now for piece of mind. Ride Safe my friend
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt You too brother.
Thanks John good of you to take the time to leave a comment my friend.
Lucky the roads were clear up in't thills with no brakes good bit of calm riding. New bike looks good, parts and service prices are ridiculous from most big manufacturers, enjoy stay safe 🏍👍
Thanks Andrew appreciate that my friend.
Hi Steve that must of been scary no brakes enjoy your new bike like my GS you have all the bells and whistles on yours took me about a week to work everything out never get rid of my GS only got in April 20reg nice stay safe 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏

I really enjoyed your video Steve particularly the route you took through bawtry! I regularly ride that route some nice sweeping roads glad you got sorted with your new bike too it looks really smart 😊
Thanks fella pleased you enjoyed it.
nice bike .. that ABS fail is a nightmare , glad you are ok ..
Cheers Wayne appreciate that my friend
Hey up Steve congratulations on ya new bike. Abs pump on early models was ripe, paintwork on later models especially engine and trailing arms but not as serious. Glad your ok after brake failure and looking forward to new vids with the crew keep well Fella in a bit.
Thanks Keith here's to new adventures ahead
Well congratulations Steve!!! :) Sure am going to miss the 06. :(. It’s a twin to my 06.
Enjoy and happy trails to you!!
Thanks for that, I enjoyed many an adventure on the 06 but am sure I'll continue on with the 18. Ride Safe my friend
Thanks for the comments fella and I too will be changing from Bennetts when policy expires.
Hey well done Matthew on passing your test and welcome to the biking community. Ride Safe fella and enjoy the roads at your own pace, thanks for commenting.
Brakedown cover what a rip off, thanks for warning us Steve, hope the new bike behaves its self, and yes looking forward to seeing you out on your trips on it .All the Best
Thanks Alan appreciate the feedback my friend.
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt Your welcolm buddy, have a good christmas.
Thanks very much Tim appreciate the comment my friend.
Glad you stuck with BM. I traded in my 05GS and went for a KTM 1290. Its fun and fast, but its not a patch on the Beemer for touring.
No Mark KTMs are more of a fun time bike than touring fella but enjoy my friend
Nice looking bike Steve, I do like the newer styling, front end looks angry. I did laugh when you mentioned the Fred Flintstone Braking on you old one, As you know, I ride a Harley so that is second nature to me lol, Stay safe my mate, looking forward to new adventures. (loads of new vids on my channel by the way)
Never noticed the front end but your right it does look angry LOL will take a look at your new stuff my friend. ride safe.
@@Steve-Clark-1200rt My mate Andy was riding one on our NC500 trip, noticed it a lot when he was behind me, the lights are brilliant as well, the 2 round units have halo rings which look really cool, stay safe my mate.
@@marktyme0379 Yeah Mark the day running lights are a good feature see and be seen eh.
