Great video, I have a 2008 sprinter and was signed on with Delta Express and was dropped this year as their policy is 10yr, got my own authority after that.

My driver sat along the Mexican Tx border for a week after he dropped off there . No loads ! My advise when this happens is... call the dispatch and ask them where you should move your van to get a load when you get stuck somewhere. It sucks cause you have to pay for more gas , but at least you can get going somewhere. Live and learn ! That was frustrating !

Great video series! I have enjoyed everyone of them so far. I enjoy how real you are making it. Sadly, people will still not listen. My question for you and possible future video is maintenance , taking care of your equipment, and having a maintenance savings account. I know you have touched on that in other videos, but I would like to hear more from you on this important subject. If I heard you correctly you went about 7000 miles in that 11 day period. For most vehicles you should have already had an oil change and tire rotation by now or getting one very, very soon. Do you use full synthetic oil and Lucas treatment like Alan Paxton or do you do something different? How much money do you put away each week for future maintenance and repairs? Are you doing XX cents per mile or a flat rate per week? Saving any money for the down payment on the next van? The clock is ticking and odometer is spinning. Being well capitalized is a key to success in any business and especially this one. You have got be able to survive the downs. People going out as a O/O with no experience and on a shoe string budget are just setting themselves up for failure in my eyes. They need to prepared. Thank you for your time and effort producing this great channel.

I like the extended wheelbase, highroof transit 350. They just handle really well and ride real smooth. The one I drive for my job has the ecoboost engine in it, and it can really fly down the interstate if you don't pay attention. Got it up to just over 100 and didn't even realize it because I wasn't paying attention.

    Great video. Few questions.
I am interested in expediting as owner operator. I live in New Jersey. No loads here but willing to work. I have no OTR experience.
I will buy new van like yours.
    1. Will I be able to sign with any good company? I am doing this for better pay not vacation.
    2. Do I set up LLC or individual for my owner operator?
From your video as I understand I find the dispatch first, that will sign me on than buy the van. This might take a month or two. Will dispatch still hold my spot. I don’t want to buy a van and not be able to sign to any carrier.
    3. Which is a better way to secure a dispatch and a van?
Insurance will come into play when buying a van.
    4. If not with a carrier do I just buy commercial insurance for collision and comprehensive since there is no cargo. Cargo insurance can be added later I assume.
    5. Assuming I signed with a carrier If carrier provides insurance and I have not bought the van yet. Will I be able to use their policy at the time of van purchase?
Most everyone talks about expediting and experience on the road but this initial steps are never discussed. This is the first video that gave me some great information. Help???

Many owner operators are just getting a DAT load board membership and booking their own loads. $99.00 a month and you can choose where you want to go. Yes...it does work, but all expenses are yours. No fuel surcharge...No credit for empty move like some companies help with. And no insurance discount advantage. it's all on you, and you pay full price for insurance. Advantage is. No company BS and if they start reducing the Sprinter fleet, you could care less.
