So do the people in the tavern just accept that the highwayman might kill any of them and take their stuff? Do you think they have some kind of understanding?
These are great videos! Are you thinking at all about the use of bells as symbols throughout the show? Featured prominently in the school episode and of course the ringing of the bell episode, also appears during Wert's epiphany v. Beast, and follows the frog (in his stomach) into the hospital room.
I didn't notice that! I'm going to have to look into some of these. I was wondering if there was more to that bell sound when Wirt has that epiphany with the beast. It seems like the bells tend to snap people out of their way of thinking.
@@Storyograph Re: epiphany; I thought it was a signal to reflect the internal realization Wirt makes that prompts him to reject the Beast. Specifically thought it would play into your analysis because "bell has wrung, class has begun" sort of aligns with your timeline of the introduction of Wert's responsibility/independence ark (discussed in prior video). But then we see auntie whisper use the bell as a tool of control (albeit for benevolent purposes). Lots of ideas floating around here but use of bell v. Beast and appearance of bell in hospital (inside frog) were what made me believe use of bell is an intentional symbol related to a theme.
@@wmhd12 Yeah "When the bell has rung, class has begun" is a line worth mulling over. When you mentioned the school episode, my mind first went to Langree singing on the floor getting stuck in a mental loop, then the bell rings (snapping her out of it) because Greg sees the gorilla, who is in fact the very man Langree is singing about. It's like the bell is saying "Wake up! Your guy is right here!" I'll definitely be thinking about this bell conceit.

There’s always that one awkward murderer at every party
I think Fred was the highwayman’s horse if I remember the comics correctly. Maybe they keep the highwayman around because they like Fred.
Maybe the song is just a song. He might be an actor.
They're not on a Highway are they? They're in a tavern. He's the Highwayman, I'd think that'd be clear by now.
@@pudlordtynan919 Ha! That's a good point! He's off the clock!
I guess that lantern was showing the beast’s silhouette this whole time
Yeah, I didn’t realize that until I changed the brightness/contrast while I was editing! It’s very subtle
